For the most part I don't have a problem with it. I only complain when I'm forced to use only one side of a sheet of paper. Teachers must own a lot of lumber and school supply stocks.
On a serious note, it does help with with the learning process. Eliminating it wouldn't be a good idea.
I don't mind homework when they really help. I dispise useless, very long, homeworks that count on the final mark however, some teachers are professionals at making those (such as the geography teacher I had last year, she gave us works that took 3 hours to make every class, and that were completely irrevelent to the exams or class).
Still, homeworks that relate to the class and can help preparing for exams can be key to success. I wouldn't say I love them, because I'm lazy, but they are a necessary evil.
Depends what it is. If it's a Lab Report, it's Tedious, but necassary. Generally if it's Math, I'll do it, because it turns out I am quite good in math. Top of my Class, same with Science. I love writing Essays, becuase I like to write and express my opinions, and generally I get very good scores on them. My essay for the Test last year was the highest in the school.
However, if it's long, tedious, and essentially useless, such as about 50% of our Math Work, I won't bother with it, I'll do it during school.
I find it necassary in some cases, lacking in others.

The concept behind homework is good, helps reinforce the ideas that you learned. Problem? Teachers give way too much homework!!!! Or at least in my school, i get completely overwhelmed every single night of the year.
The absolute, bar none, biggest problem i have is homework over breaks. It is the worst thign wrong with the school system here in America. Summer homework the worst of all. I mean, i work my ass off every God forsaken day, and i get a week off to RELAX and not have to worry about school! But no!!! i had to write a 10 page paper for history last year, and this year i get to write a 15 page research paper over christmas break, along with a Macbeth paper. How do i know this? I asked the teachers what we have over break.
But yeah, i don't think my mind has been "free" of school since i started high school. Every night i have hw on my mind, every break i have a big project on my mind, and *especially* this past summer, i get LOADED with homework and ruins my summer.
Example: i'll type up my homework from last night
english: Macbeth Act II project DUE TOMORROW
calculus: study for CHAPTER 8 test friday
pg. 152 #1 - 19 ALL
history: write DBQ based on in class question (DBQ = Document Based Question = Essay .... )
chemistry: Study for chapter 5, 6 & 7 test friday
Pg. 201 #11-49 odd
^this is typical, you wouldn't believe what a bad night looks like.

Being long out of school years, I will tell you a lot of the reason for homework.iIs when you get past school and into plane o life, it teaches you to get all your crap done each day.
wash, lawn, and or just any chore, job, work instead of doing things on the fly all the time and feeling overwhelmed, then things crop up, bills dont get paid and so on.
Trust me, at college you're gonna like the extra work you can do...
(Last 2 days 10 hours of doing math exercises prove it) Yea exams session comming soon.
damn straight attendance and homework saved my ass in math last semester and hopefully the same thing will occur in biology. If you don't plan or rather can't get stellar grades on tests and major assignments any homework or extra credit will help greatly.
