Nobody was an attacker here they both participated in this fight.

THAT, is called being a pussy.
If he was attacked for no reason I would see it your way, but from what I read it was a puss move. |
Brawl doesn't say anything about it other than that they were fighting. Examine this Objectively for a minute. You have three facts:
Known facts
1. They were fighting
2. The cause of this was a girl
3. One of them killed the other with a knife
You don't know who attacked who, or how serious the fight was. It could well have been the case that he said something about the girl and the other guy stared beating the crap out of him, equally he could have been the agressor. It's however extremely unlikely that they both attacked each other at exactly the same time.
Could have been the case that he was knocked down and had to roll back to his feet quickly before he got his head kicked in so he came up with a knife. Or maybe he took the first swing and was lossing baddly so he went nuts and tried to murder the person who he'd attacked. No real way of knowing.
That's often the way with fights, no real way of knowing. The greatest absence of knowledge is in what your opponent intends to do, they might just want to rough you up a bit, or they might kill you, either through intent or through negligence. So when you fight it has to be no-holds barred.
I guarantee you every man who's fought honourably and died with a knife or a gun or a sword or even knowledge that he didn't use to gain an 'unfair' advantage has died cursing his stupidity.
Fighting is not a game or a sport, fighting is about attempting to harm other people, and since you don't know how far the other intends to harm you then fighting is always about causing as much harm as you can to them so you don't get it yourself.
In short fighting is about killing with no-holds barred. Stab them, shoot them, break their neck, crush their throat, it really doesn't matter as long as you win.
Whether it was right for him to come up with a knife in this case, well that depends on whether he was the attacker and whether he had a chance to get away. If he was the attacker and could have left without further conflict then what he did was just murder no two ways about it. But as it stands we don't know.
What we do know is that he was in a fight and he used an advantage that he had, he walked away from the fight the other person didn't. The devil's in the details but that's as far as we know, and judging based on those limited facts he may very well have made the smart call.
