What are your favorite kind of fireworks?

This thread is mostly directed toward Americans for the 4th of July, but everyone else is welcome.

I would have to say bottle rockts #1.
#2 Colored smoke bombs (great defense against mosquitoes).

Happy 4th!

Bottle Rockets
M80s
Cherry Bombs
Small/medium/large size rockets - put into a pvc pipe/or spent M72 and fire off

Homemade rockets...

Sky Rockets, or anything else loud and bright :)

Re: What are your favorite kind of fireworks?

I love the mortars. They're the closest thing you can get to the big fireworks you see at the shows.

Saturn Missles are cool too. You can buy 100 of them in one pack, and they fly in random directions (including at people sometimes).

Re: What are your favorite kind of fireworks?

Roman candles as ammunition, mortars as grenades. :nodding:

Anything that goes up or blows up, aka anything illegal in my state. I HATE Piccolo Petes, and any other whiny whistly fireworks. I want my fireworks to have a BOOM, not some weak shriek.

Re: What are your favorite kind of fireworks?

:agreed

I love the ones that shoot up into the air about one a second and then explode, 12-shots or something.

EDIT: Oh, yeah, check out the 1000age.

Anything that is pleasing to the eye with lots of colours, the big bang firework isn't that bad either but much less impressive (at least in an other way). Especially the illegal or self made ones, I couldn't care less if somebody injured him or herself using such garbage. if you are stupiud enough to play with unsave fireworks... well..

KoЯsakoff July 3rd, 2006 02:45 AM

Re: What are your favorite kind of fireworks?

Donutz, imagine yourself toying with a experimental U-boat that fires your homemade special cherrybombs (<-- codename) ;) The bigger the bang the better :D

DavetheFo July 3rd, 2006 03:24 AM

Re: What are your favorite kind of fireworks?

Ilke ones that squee up into the sky, and the explode with a boom and lots of colour.

Re: What are your favorite kind of fireworks?

The little firecrackers are fun to throw at people's feet, too. It really scares some of them.

sadly just about all of the fireworks mentioned above are illegal in Virginia. So i've never had acess to the cooler stuff. Maybe when i go back to college i'll invest in some explosives.

Oww don't think that it's legal over here, but hey, you can only do it once a year. :naughty:

Everything that's illegal in the Netherlands. The crap that's legal is so bad in my opinion..

Steakboy July 3rd, 2006 10:44 AM

Re: What are your favorite kind of fireworks?

haha, usually the only fireworks I personally have around this time are just to throw in my tree to get rid of the thousands of birds who land there  (Don't worry animal lovers, none of them are harmed, it's just to scare them off). I leave most of the good fireworks to the fireworks show here.

Jackthehammer July 3rd, 2006 10:51 AM

anything illegal in the netherlands :D I kinda like these, just for fun:

I like strategic nukes.
I also like this warning on a fireworks site:
Quote:

If you suspect that you have illegal fireworks, contact the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms at 1-888-ATF-BOMB.

I dont suspect it, I KNOW it.

Re: What are your favorite kind of fireworks?

Cruise missiles.
But with the warheads replaced with firecrackers.... pretty harmless, but really scares the neighbors.
/me laughs as 'rearmed' cruise missile launches into the night, listening to screams of frightened neighbors.

Nemmerle July 3rd, 2006 11:09 AM

Re: What are your favorite kind of fireworks?

/me thinks most of the neighbours around here are too stoned to notice.
Which considering the sort of transaction that goes on around here - I'd be surprised if they weren't.

Steakboy July 3rd, 2006 11:47 AM

Re: What are your favorite kind of fireworks?

haha, I think it's kind of funny that around here it's illegal to sell fireworks in sate, but it's perfectly legal to get them from Missouri, so pretty much my entire state gets their fireworks from there

I live just around the corner from the world-famous Kimbolton Fireworks. They made the fireworks for the Queen's birthday, and big events around the world.

piccolo petes are actually VERY cool if you light more than one off at the same time. they harmonize with one another and create an eerie(LOOUD) theremin-like sound. but my favorites are the hogchuckers(southern slang for mortars :) and big bottle rockets. The bigger the bang and brighter the flame is what I always say. those things that spin on the ground and emit sparks are alot of fun in a bottle rocket war though, try to throw em in your friend's shirt pockets (not really)

You're good then. :D

My dad told me a story about how he and his brothers used to run around throwing firecrackers at each other. They carried them around in little pouches. One time, someone threw one into my uncle's pouch... yeah.

It makes for a good story, though.

Seriously? They sond like a theremin? Odd, kinda an obscure musical intrusment to compare them to, but I would never have guessed that it would sound like that.

So, you mean light them so they go off at the same time, or in series?

Re: What are your favorite kind of fireworks?

I love anything that either, explodes in a big bang, flies, or flies and explodes. All of them are illegal in PA though. Thankfully we have Ohio with a multitude of dangerous fireworks only 15 miles to the west. I had some fun in 2004 when my uncle spent about $200 in ohio on fireworks. Now he lives in FL:(

Crazy Wolf July 3rd, 2006 11:57 PM

Re: What are your favorite kind of fireworks?

Wyoming, I spent less than $70 on fireworks. 3 hours of constant explosions and launches later, I was happy.

Re: What are your favorite kind of fireworks?

Just about anything that goes boom, or launches up into the air. Both of those kinds of fireworks are illegal in Minnesota (only wimpy (:p ) fountains allowed), but about 3/4 of our population just cross into Wisconsin and buy the good ones.

I also occasionally make my own Roman Candles, Firecrackers, Aerial Shells, and Mortars. Fun to experiment with them!

colonel_bob July 5th, 2006 08:15 AM

Re: What are your favorite kind of fireworks?

Ah yes, I forgot roman candles. Those things are only good for shooting at your friends, though. :p

Chemix2 July 5th, 2006 08:47 AM

Re: What are your favorite kind of fireworks?

First: Tactical Small Nuke detonated at 1 mile above the local cities and towns to create EMP to turn off lights, and the huge explosion
Second: Soda cans loaded with black powder piled in a heap with fuses attatched to each can, did I mention they would be really really long fuses. Sit back half a mile away and watch the explosion.
Third: Get together every illegal firecracker that flies and explodes and load up some smoke bombs on em, it's not likely to go very far, but it would create some nice fog where the colors of the explosions would be picked up.
After that: Sparklers... attatched to the end of every bottle rocket that could be strapped together
After that: Crackles, no big boom, but heavily anoying to those who don't know what's going on

Re: What are your favorite kind of fireworks?

Catherine wheels are pretty cool if you can get a good one.

A lot of them are quite lame and just whizz around letting off bog standard sparks, but some squee as they go round and are brightly multicoloured.

I like reading the descriptions of fireworks - they almost invariably always say :
Emits sparks and showers.

Catherine wheels are fun unless they come off the tree :lookaround:

Rockets are the shiz though, there's nothing better than sending a small bomb hundreds of feet into the air above your house and watching it explode in to colour.

A friend of mine was telling me how he got some small-ish mortars for a birthday party. They had 4 grams of explosive in them apparently :p

KoЯsakoff July 5th, 2006 10:25 AM

Re: What are your favorite kind of fireworks?

Colours? Tsk tsk.. Explosions! You can't reproduce a good bang with a soundsystem. The immense shock is just /me shivers
