who thinks the stargate exsists and how would you build one!!!!!!

:deal: anyone got any ideas: well to make one work i would create a mini black hole and make it have magnetic force and dont ask me why i just carnt be bovered explanin so as i woz sayin and then make a communication relay to make to travel to different worlds.

and personally i do think the stargate exsists:confused: :dropsjaw:

Re: who thinks the stargate exsists and how would you build one!!!!!!

Well, if its the process of chanelling the co-ordinates of a wormhole to a specific location, and forcing an aperture to open at a specific time and co-ordinate, then it may be possible.

I have no idea really, alot more research needs to be done into wormhole and black hole theory.

Re: who thinks the stargate exsists and how would you build one!!!!!!

First) I wouldn't build one, because you dont know what crap you gonna pull to this world.
Second) give me a starship over some gate anyday.
Third) Wake up.

DavetheFo June 22nd, 2006 11:27 AM

Re: who thinks the stargate exsists and how would you build one!!!!!!

I'll take the second option.

I would love to have a starship - it would just kick so much ass.

Of course, it would have to be the right design.

Re: who thinks the stargate exsists and how would you build one!!!!!!

Yeah, a starship would be so much better. Think the USS Saratoga from Space: Above And Beyond.

Exactly, we can't tell if such a thing would be possible. If the theories supporting it have got it about right, sure. But it might just prove to be a nothing more then a hole that would be distructive to anything entering it.

Awww, why not Jack?

It could mean that we could visit each other more often ;)

Re: who thinks the stargate exsists and how would you build one!!!!!!

Wormholes are impossible because they would be far too unstable to be sustained longer than a few micro seconds.

Plus the fact a "stargate" uses vast amounts of energy and is made up of elements not found on our planet.

So basically it's impossible.

Re: who thinks the stargate exsists and how would you build one!!!!!!

I have one in my backgarden, got bored of it though, have put it in loot magazine, check it out if you're interested.

Never watched the programme though so not really sure what it does except take white people to other worlds where there are lots of monkeys associated with being black men.

Mr. Matt June 23rd, 2006 10:56 AM

Re: who thinks the stargate exsists and how would you build one!!!!!!

I am fairly sure that Stargate is an entirely fictional program, and that is not just because of the utterly ridiculous science used throughout, and the utter disregard for established history. It is also because we know it is fictional, because somebody wrote it from scratch fairly recently.

As for whether we could build a Stargate the same as the one used on the movie/show, no, we couldn't. The Stargate is based on technobabble, not actual science. Whether we could take control of wormholes through other means is debatable, but I can assure you that if we do indeed manage to achieve that, then it will not be anything like the way it is portrayed in Stargate.

Re: who thinks the stargate exsists and how would you build one!!!!!!

What do you mean its fiction?

Next you'll be telling me thats just a police box in my garden, not a TARDIS...

Instructions On Building Your OWN Stargate!

The following instructions, recently de-classified from the Department of Homeland Security, accurately detail the procedure required to build your own, fully-functional Stargate.

What you will need.
  • Two sticks of prit-stick (paper glue)
  • 8 card tubes (loo-roll tubing will do)
  • Silver Tin Foil
  • Crate Paper
  • Cardboard
  • Black Pen Marker
  • poster paint
  • magnatron from your microwave
Step One
Take the eight tubes of cardboard and place them into a circular fassion for form the basic skeleton of your Stargate. See figure 1 and 2 below.

http://www.extremezone.com/%7Ebinky/graphics/Fig-02.jpghttp://www.filefreak.net/gallery/fil...gatetubes1.jpg

Use the prit-stick glue to stick the tubes together. You may prefer to use tape if you wish.

Step Two
Now wrap the basic structure in crate paper. This should preferbly be white or of another light colour to allow for effective painting and decoration of your stargate.

http://www.filefreak.net/gallery/files/1/lootube2.jpg

You may wish to mold the crate paper to add detail to your stargate.

Step Three
Lift your stargate off the table and stand it upright. Tape or prit-stick the structure to the cardboard. It will act as a base for the structure.

Step Four
Paint your Stargate. You should use brown and silverish colours for best effect. Once you have painted your stargate, highlight the details with black marker pen.

Step Five
Take the silver tin foil and stick it using the prit-stick glue to the back of the carboard tubes, so it completely covers the entrence of your stargate. Using a pair of scissors, you should trim the excess foil off for neatness.

Step Six

Take the magnatron from an old microwave and using glue or tape, wire it to the tin foil. You may also require other components from the microwave to safely connect the magnatron to a mains outlet. It may also be wise to rig up a switch.

Apply power to your magnatron! You will now find the tin foil waves and wobbles much like a real Stargate, and you will be able to travel through space to other worlds.

/me builds it.
Hey that didn't work! Now my microwave doesn't work and the warranty's kaput.

I made one and tried going through it.

All that happens is that the tinfoil rips, and I fall over...

I think that's what happens on the show actually, but they put special effects over it. So... you kinda did it!

Re: who thinks the stargate exsists and how would you build one!!!!!!

Wow, so am I actually in some kind of alternate universe where the change is something that doesnt affect me in anyway?

Like some guy in Brazil deciding not to have fish for dinner.

Mr. Matt June 23rd, 2006 02:31 PM

Re: who thinks the stargate exsists and how would you build one!!!!!!

Yes. When the guy in Brazil decides not to have fish, he creates a timeline where he doesn't eat the fish. There are also timelines created where all the alternative decisions he could have made are played out, including but not limited to:
  • Eating the fish.
  • Licking the fish.
  • Putting the fish in his shirt.
  • Putting the fish in his pants.
  • Putting the fish up his anti-mouth.
  • Putting the fish in his ear.
  • Hitting somebody with the fish.
  • Hitting the fish.

And so on. And in each timeline the universe is altered dramatically according to which decision he takes. Or so the theory goes anyway. Probably.

DavetheFo June 23rd, 2006 02:36 PM

Re: who thinks the stargate exsists and how would you build one!!!!!!

I hate that 'every choice makes a new universe' theory.

There are way too many choices happening each second, like which words I choose to put in each sentence.

I have to make a decision about each word, how fast I type, if I read it back etc. I've made hundreds of new parallel universes with this very post....

Mr. Matt June 23rd, 2006 02:37 PM

Re: who thinks the stargate exsists and how would you build one!!!!!!

Yeah. But it's not like they're being stored on a hard drive with finite space or anything, so...

Xaritix June 23rd, 2006 02:42 PM

Re: who thinks the stargate exsists and how would you build one!!!!!!

First you may need to form a subspace warp coil by focusing the strength of a black hole on a defragmented...OMFG I am so kidding

But I think it exists somewhere, if it existed, I would use it to go back in time and prevent Rick Salomon from being born

DavetheFo June 23rd, 2006 02:43 PM

Re: who thinks the stargate exsists and how would you build one!!!!!!

Ah but you never know, the universe might run out of space, thus erasing previous decisions.

It's all going to lead to a catastrophic meltdown.

Mr. Matt June 23rd, 2006 02:46 PM

Re: who thinks the stargate exsists and how would you build one!!!!!!

Not really. The Gigantic Enormous Supercomputer of Awesomeness that Controls Everything will just delete old universes where humans have destroyed themselves or something, to make room for the new ones. Problem solved!

Yannick June 23rd, 2006 03:48 PM

Re: who thinks the stargate exsists and how would you build one!!!!!!

Sure, the idea of parallel universes floating around in a higher-dimensional space sounds like fun, but how can we ever really prove it? Science is the art of experiment and proof. If you can't prove it, it's not science, it's philosophy.

Re: who thinks the stargate exsists and how would you build one!!!!!!

I had a dream once where my computer must have been the GESACE (see above), as I accidentally deleted Mexico by dragging it to the recycle bin. Then I woke up.

*Note: This was actually a dream I had. Anybody tell me the meaning? :)

Re: who thinks the stargate exsists and how would you build one!!!!!!

Half of what scientists are coming out with these days is pure fiction. String theory, dark matter, etc. It's all stuff they've invented to explain things that they can't really explain. Doesn't make it any less interesting to think about though.
