el cheapo seafood alfredo recipe

i love seafood alfredo from the Olive garden, but i am not thrilled about paying $13US for a plate . Inspired by Lord Wiener's chicken recipe thread , here is my guide to making a cheap version of seafood alfredo, the most you will spend is $20US but you can make enough alfredo for 5 or 6 people

the ingredients
Veg
2 choped garlic cloves
2 tablespoons choped parsley
1 bunch of green onions choppedn into thin slices (makes about 1 1/2cups)

dairy
2 cups of milk
24oz tub of sour cream
1 stick (1/4 LBS) of butter or margarine
8oz tub of grated parmessan cheese

meat
1lbs of medium peeled and de-tailed shrimp

pasta
1 lbs package of fetucinne or linguini pasta, plain spagetti works well too.

preparation
for best efficiency you can boil the pasta and make the sauce at the same time so they will be ready together

pasta
next to making corn flakes , pasta is the easiest thing to make , esentially just follow the instructions on bag. basically in a large pot, boil half a pot of water , add 2 tbsp of salt and 2 tbsp of butter and boil for 10 minutes until pasta is soft. once pasta is ready, keep at low heat until sauce is ready.

sauce
1.saute finely choped garlic in butter on a large deep pan over high heat (a wok works great)until garlic has melted into the butter, only takes a couple of minutes.

2.once garlic has melted add milk and sour cream and stir, milk and cream shoud blend rigth away.

3.once milk and cream are blended , stir in entire tub of parmesan , keep stirring gently until blended

4. once milk, cream, and cheese are blended , add onions parsley and shrimp, bring to a gentle boil, it should take about 10 to 15 minutes , stirring ocasionally.

5. once sauce is gently boiling, lower heat to medium and simmer for about 5 minutes untill thickened. remove from heat
DONE!

tub of sour cream

boiling the pasta, just read the bag instructions

tub of parmessan, i only use the finest Walmart ingredients:D

choped green onions and garlic cloves, a small bunch of green onions goes a long way.

sauce is gently boiliing,

after simering for a couple of minutes , sauce is ready, just add over a plate full of pasta :p

alterations
for a less strong sauce, use only half the cheese.

i am well aware the olive garden version has scallops, but they are horribly expensive, twice the price of shrimp. you can add imitation crab meat instead, or for those not into seafood, you can add cooked choped chicken breast instead of shrimp.

the sauce is enough for 2 lbs of pasta, so make more pasta if needed.

Ah! Good thread!

The Seafood Alfredo is just about the only thing I ever order at Olive Garden. This seems like a good one to pair with the French Onion Soup recipe. :p

But you pay $13 for it? That seems a little steep... The last time I was at Olive Garden, I think the price was less than $10, actually.

$10 bucks is the lunchtime price for the seafood alfredo, dinner time is about $13 besides that , the portions seem like a rip off, specially during lunch time. with this recipe you can stuff your face with alfredo for little $$$. besides that, i dont like going too much to the olive garden because i always get really $h1ty service.
