Hopefully no treatment will be available. I am hoping this disease will wipe out as many people as possible.

I bet you wouldn't hope that if you got it.;)

Re: bird flu protection

Of course not. But if it does, tough shit for me. More population control.

Yeah, it's been around for ages.

Re: bird flu protection

This flu has been around for centuries. From century to century it wipes out large numbers of humans. Last time it happened was in 1918 right after the first world war.

Hmm drugs to counteract the disease don't appear to be far off thankfully.

An experimental vaccine appears to be effective against a strain of flu virus that experts fear could spark a devastating pandemic, offering the first evidence that any inoculation could provide a powerful weapon against the deadly microbe, a federal health official said yesterday.

Two doses of the vaccine produced an immune system response potent enough to neutralize the virus in tests on 113 volunteers who were injected as part of a federally sponsored study being conducted at three U.S. universities.

Last week, two groups of scientists reported the results of the most sophisticated analyses of how a pandemic could be stopped. Computer models indicated that a pandemic could be stifled within about a week with drugs and quarantines.

A British firm has developed a bird flu vaccine which could be easily mass produced, officials say.

PowerMed's vaccine is further away from the market than others, but as it is a DNA-based, it may be easier to produce than traditional egg-grown flu shots.

The firm said 1.2kg of the vaccine, which is expected to enter clinical trials next year, would be enough to vaccinate the US population twice over.

Re: bird flu protection

Gah. I wouldn't get it even if the entire population of the planet caught it. That'd mean a day or two off work, and hell, we can't let Matt have a sick day, can we...? That's me safe. I tell you what, it'd be fun to have the entire planet to yourself, until you went completely insane with loneliness...

Sorry, what was the question?

Re: bird flu protection

I heard about it on the wrold news today, my first time hearing about the "potential pandemic"

Trust me, if there are a group of people that can come up with a cure, its the Chinese and Japanese, no sterotypes meant, but they are smart.

I'm not sure, but i think one of my friends from school got it, she survived, but i'm not sure what it was...just that she got sick and was in the hospital. Plus another one from my class is coming back from Hong Kong. :uhm:

They keep saying that the Avian flu (Aka: Bird Flu) is going to be a pandemic.

I personally think it won't... So far it's only been in small numbers. It's probably going to go the way of SARS, highly publicized, but never really a pandemic.

Now stupidity however, is a pandemic...

bah. all I need is my aluminium foil hat to protect me from aliens.

seriously though, the bird flu will eventually stop, taking the people who had it with it and leave us alone until next time. I don't think I have to vaccinate myself here in Germany.

I wouldn't worry about the bird flu too much. How most people catch is through open-air markets where they sell chickens and stuff. Just make sure you don't go around touching any dead birds or anything. Usually cooking should denature the DNA of the virus, so don't be afraid to eat chicken either :giggle:.

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about it unless you plan on eating your birds raw and fresh off the highway. :p
