Question on english term for certain object

Hey, im looking for the english word for the following object:

does anybody of you people know what these things are called in english >

http://home.wanadoo.nl/zaanse.foto/R...edenburgkl.JPG

We Dutch call them "reclame zui(en)" or "advertisement pilar(s)" Asked riles and Reven but he didnt got further then "bill boards" and "notice boards". There MUST be a more specific word for them?

I remember seeing them on TV in London (and berlin etc. also) so don't tell me you never seen one! :D

I need that the word for this thing since i'm looking for info on them (size, what's commonly to be found inside? etc. ) since i consider modelling one to be used in BF1942 (Forgotten Hope mod) to give something else to shelter behind next to all these boxes and barrels. So a more exact keyword to google on is needed!

Thanks for your help in advance!

Rob

PS: Would have putted this "silly" question in Spamming Forum perhaps were it not for the fact that it would disappear of the first page in hours.

Only place ive seen them in the UK, is in London. I dont know, they tend to get Flash-Posted ridiculous amounts.

Sometimes they have public information on, like maps, or bus stop times etc.

From "Litfass" advertising pillars to billboard advertising

From 1855 onward, the first Litfass advertising pillars changed the look of the streets of Berlin. These cylindrical bulletin boards were invented by bookseller and printer Ernst Litfass and named in his honor. Litfass was annoyed about posters that were randomly plastered on walls, and this had prompted him to make his invention. The city of Berlin granted him a monopoly effective until the year 1880 for setting up these pillars. However, Litfass was not allowed to use them exclusively for advertising: The latest news also had to be posted there. In 1865, Berlin already had as many as 150 Litfass pillars.

hmmm looks like i have to settle with "advertising pillar(s)" then, unless somebody can come up with a better word/official name for it.

The closest thign relating to that i can think of are little signs with advertisements on them that they have at beaches or in cities...:uhm:

Not sure what they are called though, i'd go with Notice Bulletins...:uhm:

"advertising columns"

Re: Question on english term for certain object

If they have a specific name, I've never heard it.

And if no other English speaking people have ever heard of it, and online translators/translation dictionaries don't give you a word for it, then it's safe to say that you could probably get away with any of the terms given here.

I personally would call it "a big frickin' post with adverts 'n shit on it". I suggest you go with that one.

" I personally would call it "a big frickin' post with adverts 'n shit on it". I suggest you go with that one." hmm shouldt be too far off from the official label for it :D.

Thanks for the suggestions made though, ohwell i just keep it at an adv. pilar/column then.

They are called DRUMS

We provide dozens of official drums and boards across the city centre where promoters can advertise events legally at a very low cost, so there's no excuse for plastering stickers and posters elsewhere. More and more drums are planned outside the City centre

"We work hard to ensure our city is clean, pleasant and tidy for everyone. Those people who continue to flypost will be tracked down and prosecuted."
Flyposting in Leeds is generally used to promote local events, the majority of which are held on licensed premises. There is also a smaller number of posters advertising shops or specific goods for sale.
The new policy will cover posting on street furniture, structures and buildings. It will apply to all property, including private property unless the owner has sanctioned the display and obtained the relevant planning permission.
Legal flyposting on "drums" and official boards will be unaffected.
Licensees in Leeds have been warned about the clampdown. The council will target its enforcement action against the most persistent offenders.
People who put advertising stickers on traffic lights and lampposts also face prosecution
