Blocked by a proxy!? Ive noticed some thread's here about people that cannot access gaming forums due to a proxy server (or school/work security settings). i had the same situation with my work. when my work moved to a new building about 3 months ago, they put up a proxy server, so we could only use the net on site's they allow (anything related to our work is all we are allowed to view). these comp's are emachines, and they do not have CDROM drives or floppy drives. they are all installed using network tools. these comps do however have USB ports. so the other day i grabbed one of my flash drives and put firefox on it. i put it in the USB and bam!, firefox bypasses the proxy server. this now means i can come on the forums at work!! :bows: well, just thought i would let you know in case you are having the same problem. but Use at your own risk. i doubt they would be to pleased with me if they walked by and saw me using firefox. and my boss can view my screen from his desk whenever he feel's like it. (but i usually know when he's looking). so ya; just thought i would let you know in case you are having the same problems. im pretty excited seeing work blows, and atleast now i can come on the forums. |
Re: Blocked by a proxy!? naughty. where i work we get full 'net access, but we are supposed to use it for 'work related purposes' only. yeah right, like that's gonna happen!! |
Re: Blocked by a proxy!? At this time of the year, the word 'work' is almost a joke on the internet desk. Gaming Forums is all I can do at the moment. Today I've made two slight modifications to the website. That's it. The paper's so thin you could fit it all on a single sheet, and because not everything from the paper makes it to the website... I've been here since 9:00am. It's now 3:25pm and I've had all of five minutes work to do. I'm not sure why we bother coming in, but my holiday doesn't start till next week... So yeah, if they blocked Gaming Forums here at the moment I'd probably fall asleep. Lucky the IT department here is so liberal, really. The department manager keeps coming down here and showing us funny websites that he found, for crying out loud. |
Re: Blocked by a proxy!? i just got caught using a proxy to get here by our head tech guy....but i dont learn..im on a proxy and in school right now....4th period in fact... |

Re: Blocked by a proxy!? Hmmm, I guess I could "borrow" a flash drive from one of the computer labs, they tend to leave those things around. The only problem is getting away with it, the best place for doing this would be in the library, but I don't think those computers have a very accesible USB port. :uhm: |
Re: Blocked by a proxy!? pc's in my school r dells they have 2 usb in the front, so easy... i have a 250mb usb key, so i can bring in firefox... |
Re: Blocked by a proxy!? We have the same computers, but only in the computer labs where all the computers are lined up on the outside against the wall so a teacher can see what you are doing. I think we should start planning the ultimate way to get rid of a teacher in a way as to attract the least amount of attention possible. Any ideas? |
Re: Blocked by a proxy!? i know is kinda sad...but there a "special" kid in out class....autistic or somthing....the teachers always with him...so we do anything...and the got proxify.com at our school....goog the words "Bypass internet censorship" and click the first link...then scroll down to a big list of proxy servers. |

Re: Blocked by a proxy!? I have no use for this. I'm the biggest geek at my school so i have to help the computer illierate during my computer class during 3rd peroid. Anyways if i could I'd have to use a different comp, the teacher can see my comp at all times. I can get a comp in the back of the room but there on 98 and are very slow(word takes 2 min to open:lol:) so by the time I get onto GF the peroid would be over:(. Nice "hacking" there gizmo. |
Re: Blocked by a proxy!? Hmm lucky you gizmo. A few years back we used to bypass our computers quite easily, but i think things were easier back then. |
Re: Blocked by a proxy!? When I work (5-10 weeks per year, part of my education, going plumber school), they usually says "Hey, take 10 of these 110mm cast iron pipes(?) and take them 2 floors down" I promise you those bastards are 3m long and wieghts atleast 45-50kg each. Not a computer in sight. Trainee=Slave, well, I shouldn't complain, I do enjoy that job, altough you have to do some hard work sometimes. |

Nice workaround! :nodding: |
Re: Blocked by a proxy!? i could get past the security and get onto gaming forums at school but my school doesnt have many computers infact my school doesnt even have its own building right now |
Re: Blocked by a proxy!? I tried the firefox thing today, and it didn't work. :( Our school uses websense, wich is über-strict, methinks -- eveything going into your computer passes through them first. If anyone knows a good site I can use as a proxy (like the address and port number), though, I can get around it... |
Re: Blocked by a proxy!? bob...i have declared war against websense....go to google. type in "bypass internet censorship" and then click the first one on the list, scroll down until you hit a list of proxy servers. i use the medydaily one...it gets past websense |
