My school has had the same football field for thirty years, so I was overjoyed when I heard that it was getting a renovation. The grass is getting replaced with astroturf and we are adding more bleachers.
On the last day of school before summer break, the construction company began work on the field. I was glad to see this. Then, last week, I visited the school for band camp and saw that the field had been torn up. I was glad to see the progress, that was until I noticed that their was no turf and all the bulldozers and vehicles were not there. I just shrugged my shoulders at the time and assumed that the workers had the week off.
Then yesterday I learned the truth. Apparently our rival school (Monarch High School), also hired the same contruction company to build a new football field for them. Because they are a large 5a school, and we are a small 4a school, the district decided to halt work on our field, and start their field, eventhough
we hired them first. Now we are stuck with a half finished field with no grass while Monarch is enjoying their
two fields. To make matters worse, my school football starts in 2 days and they have nowhere to practice.
I'm really pissed off. Monarch is a large school who has 3 feeders (mine only has 1) and they get about $50,000 more every year then we do. It makes me so mad to think that all the big, popular schools always get their way, whereas not-so-popular schools like mine, get left in the dust. Life isn't fair, and as I just learned, neither are school politics.
