Rate Your Parents!

I was just thinking about how my parents' "policies" are different from everyone else's. For example, it seems they don't care what I do as long as I stay out of trouble, and they have never really tried to shield me from the outside world (my mom bought me a rater 'R' movie when I was 9  ). Some of my friends however, are not permitted to watch 'PG-13' movies, even though they're 15. (I once mentioned that I watched South Park around this one guy's mom... she's acted like I am the sole incarnation of evil ever since :uhoh: ) I just wanted to get a feel as to how liberal/conservative/whatever everyone's parents are/were.

My folks were fairly decent. They made sure I knew right from wrong, then left me to get on with it, helping only if I asked them to. I think I turned out OK *punches Sheepeep in the stomach and cackles evily*.

Re: Rate Your Parents!

i knew how babies were made really young, i could hear my parents do it from the other room. Other than that, they weren't home very often so i learned more from my babysitter, her sons and their drugged friends. A thing i liked was that when i was aged of 4 years old they were letting me go see 13 years or older rated movies at the cinepark. Me and my father were fighting alot against eachother(mostly because i did something bad) i was acting like animal... I remember something that makes me laugh today. My father was pissed off against me so i tried to run away from him in the stairway that was going up, well he picked my leg and pulled it so i fell down the stairway. Imagine the scene.

Well my parents sheild me from the outside world. They have homeschooled me for 15 years. So What is this 'street' you speak of?

My parents are great. My mom buys me beer and my dad was a huge stoner when he was my age. They're great, but can be asses too.

Re: Rate Your Parents!

My parents are split when it comes to this poll. Lets see....my parents will not let me cuss around them. However, they let me do anything else I want. My parents are very leniant, as long as I keep the cursing outside. I really never curse though. And my parents never really punish me anymore unless I forget to do a chore or beat up my brothers, or go streaking at malls.

Edit-I have been watching rated R movies since I was 11. I don't find many horror movies to be scary thanks to my parents. Signs did freak me out the first night we watched it though, just because I am a little paranoid sometimes and when I went upstairs it was all dark. You know how you feel, like you sense or see something even though it is not really there.

Well... my parents are very controlling, my dad won't even let me go places with my male friends and he's even yelled at me infront of some of them aswell. He has his moments where he can be a real big bastard.

My mom on the other hand is usually the one I complain to about my dad and she's real laid back, she doesn't buy me beer or anything (my parents don't drink alcohol... or even coffee). I'm pretty sheltered, but I haven't always been the best kid in the world.

my parents are good to me, mother worries about me, and my father lets me do pretty much what I want. growing up it was a bit different, but nothing I could complain about.

your correct my father was always rushing, hes a architect and goes on location alot in parts of the world. but thats not the reason it was different.

No lol I think you get the joke. My teacher always jokes about Russians Rushin or something like that. Pretty lame but oh well.

Ensign Riles July 21st, 2004 12:10 AM

Re: Rate Your Parents!

Wait, how can Russians always be rushing when they are always stallin'?

Anyway, I would say my parents have brought me up almost perfectly. I was never spoiled, if I did happen to want something it would be given as a gift for my Birthday or Christmas. There was one exception, though, books. They have always bought me books when I want them. They always read to me from a very early age, and I am glad they did. I am sure that influenced my love of reading.

I also appreciate that they did discipline me if I did something drastically wrong. It wasn't severe, and was always justified. I have never been grounded once, though. Manners are another thing. Too often do I see people today with a total lack of etiquette, and again I thank my parents that I didn't end up like them.

One other thing that I value greatly that they have always given me is trust. My mom felt completely comfortable leaving me at home when I was ten after her kidneys failed and went on dialysis for a year. Staying home alone is one thing, but at age eight they let me ride my bike for many hours, ten during them summer wherever I wanted. I never really knew how much trust has to be given to allow a kid of that age to go as many miles from the house as he choose for so long.

One last thing before I shut up, what is with the poll options? They are kind of vague and random.

I was bored. I like making poles, and I try to make them sort of interesting. Oh, and by the way, Riles, I declare you King of Corny Jokes. :bows:  :bows:

Me too. Right now I'm working on an East Pole and a West Pole; they seem sorely neglected so I'm giving them a little recognition.

Re: Rate Your Parents!

My Mom - She's a good mom I think. She pushes me to make good grades in school. (which isn't really a bad thing). It can sometimes bother me though.. She'll send me to a tutor when I'm already making an A in a class... She thinks I need to be prepared for what we're going to be doing 3 months later..:uhm: . She's also very nice, unless I do bad at school.

My Dad - He's a great dad I think. He takes me everywhere I want to go, he encourages me to date girls, buys me pretty much anything I want. I'm kind of a shy guy and he doesn't like to see me that way. So if I've spent the entire day on the computer, he'll actually make me invite a friend over or go to some other social activity.

My parents...are very religious. So I cant cuss what so ever in this household. I say "damnit' and I get a warning. If I say it again I get grounded. Sucks huh? Also I can never just go out with friends anytime I want. They ask me, "Where are you going?" "Who are you going with?" "How long will you be gone?" "I want you back before sundown" Ok that last one wasnt a question but I mean come on, give me some freedom. Probably worst of all, my parents MAKE me go to bed at 10pm on weekdays and at 1pm on the weekdays (you do realize its summer  ) The only thing I like about my parents is that they let me listen to whatever music I want. I also got to watch my first rated R movie when I was 9 (Crimson Tide). So overall they arnt bad parents, just way too cautious.

Re: Rate Your Parents!

Well, there really isn't any need to go around swearing. As for being asked those questions, nothing is wrong with that. I think you would rather be loved than abandoned as a baby in some garbage can. Your parents love you and want you to grow up correctly. It is hard to find parents who actually care about what their children do, feel yourself lucky. As for being home by sundown, why would you have to be out any later?

Sometimes I like to go to shows and concerts and they all start after sundown.

Wasn't meant to be funny, but thanks if you did find it amusing.

You could always ask an adult to accompany you to the concert, surely your parents wouldn't object to that.

There isn't really anything wrong with your parents. Trust me, having parents that don't care is a lot worse then having parents that do. My parents don't let me our after hours either until very recently, and I used to always get so mad but now that I look back, it just showed how much they really cared.
