Re: The Best Medium tank of WW2

The best tank during WWII was the Panzer V Panther.
It was cheaper, more reliable, had better engine/weight ratio, easy to mass produce and its 88mm cannon was almost as good as the tigers.
The tiger sucked as an offensive tank because of its crappy engine and its turret was VERY slow (60 secs to turn it 360 degrees IIRC)

The kingtigers armor sucked because it was made of low quality material, The Tiger had very good armor though.

btw, I voted T-34

Because the Panther isn't in this poll, I voted for the Sherman. It was a very good tank for it's function, was constructed to be mass-produced and and was one of the most reliable tanks. The British Sherman Firefly with 17pdr gun was able to knock out a Tiger or Panther with a single hit in the front within 1000 meters. The M4A3E8 76W HVSS was the best US-Sherman. But here are some tanks missing anyway, like the Panzer IV, the Cromwell and the Comet.

There was already a post with heavy tanks.

I voted Sherman. Because I like the Firefly.

The Sherman was fast, maneuverable and inexpensive. So it has bad armor, there was enough to win the war. Just like the Russians, the tiger could easily knock out a t-34, but the Russians had enough of them to preveil.

The firefly is a Brit modification to the Sherman. It had wider tracks, a bigger gun and more armor.

Nah, Panther was a medium tank, and a reaction to the T-34. Still, T-34 kicks arse! Shermans had the advantage of quantity, not quality.

Actually shermans had quality, because most T-34s didn't eve have radios..yea..

I mean in terms of firepower and armor.

I htink the armor was even thinner than the Shermans, the T-34 had sloped armor..which made it harder to kill..but if you gave any take sloped armor..it would be a whole lot easier to kill.

And the T-34 had a 76mm cannon..which wasn't much better than the Shermans, especialy the firefly.

Well the Sherman's could barely take out an enemy tank, they had to try and circle it and either hit take out the tracks or shoot the tanks in either its side armour or rear armour. Most of the time losing many of its fellow tanks in the process to the superior German gunnery.
