How bout I polished it myself? :nodding: 4 days of endless sanding.. I have no fingerprints left now..

Gaskets and hoses were old, had oil in the sparkplug wells, worn sp-wires.. it runs a lot stronger now!

Some night shots I took today after I cleaned the outside too:

May I suggest the Tokico Coilover Kit. It has adjustable dampening shocks which you can easily adjust to change the ride height. I'm pretty sure they make one for your vehicle.

Huffardo April 17th, 2007 02:34 PM

Re: A day working on the Probe

Looking really nice, but are you sure about lowering it, it looks low already, wouldn't it get damaged in speed bumps if it was even lower?

I guess it would look a bit better, but when driving a car which in the second highest position rivals the ground clearance of e.g. a Toyota Landcruiser you get a bit suspicious about lowered cars, even though the thing hits the ground overnight. :lookaround:

Jackthehammer April 17th, 2007 03:48 PM

Re: A day working on the Probe

I'll have to look out at speedbumps, not it's not that I can't take them anymore. It's a low car from the factory, but lowering it will fill the wheel-wells a lot better and generally give it a much better appearance, aswell as handling.

I know the coil-overs are good, but I'm going with a spring-set from KAW. 50mm front, 35mm back. So it gets the nose-down stance like the other white probe in the pictures above. :)

Re: A day working on the Probe

Any plans for a body kit? Shaved handles? Etc?

Jackthehammer April 18th, 2007 06:56 AM

Re: A day working on the Probe

No, I don't like body kits.. The probe is beautiful as it is.. Lowering and exhaust is first on the list.

Huffardo April 18th, 2007 07:15 AM

Re: A day working on the Probe

Yup, body kits with no real car you are trying to recreate are more than likely to be just ricy.

The BX be needing a new exhaust too, and soon or it will completely fall off. It rusted to pieces from the inside faster than I thought, so it started souding and vibrating like a kind of ricy V8 until I temporarily taped it together... :(

Well, I'd figure you can't exactly accelerate over them right now either, so better make sure you don't forget it and follow e.g. a BX into one of those... :D

I do agree, but does it really need any better handling? Also, it already looks pretty damn nice as is, I hope you either already have an alarm in it or are getting one soon...

Sounds good, I'd figure the nose down look would suite it. :nodding:

Re: A day working on the Probe

Yep, got an alarm ;) I can't decide on what to do first, exhaust or lowering? :(

Huffardo April 18th, 2007 01:53 PM

Re: A day working on the Probe

Good. I'd vote on the exhaust, that way you can still fit anything you want there, which might be too late after the lowering. :p

Jackthehammer April 18th, 2007 02:29 PM

Re: A day working on the Probe

No problem there, It'll be a dual flowmaster american thunder in the back, nuff space there ;) It's the front I'm worried about when lowering..

Ohhh... shiny new parts. Looking rad man, have fun with it, it looks like a nice car (and I can tell from the threads/posts I've seen, you've put a lot of work into it)!

Re: A day working on the Probe

its a transverse engine, alot of American cars have them too. just means the engine is mounted sideways in the engine bay, most front wheel drive cars have it like that. saves a lot of room in smaller cars

HairySheep April 19th, 2007 06:16 PM

Re: A day working on the Probe

yeah almost all FWD cars have traverse engines, the only one i can think of that doesnt is the old SAAB 900's with their reverse engine, god they are a pain in the ass to work on, but a clutch change is like only an hour

Jackthehammer April 20th, 2007 01:24 AM

Re: A day working on the Probe

FWD.. easier to work on, but less fun in the bends :(

i wouldnt say that really, your belts are too close to the side wall and the things on the other side of the motor are hard to get to

Jackthehammer April 21st, 2007 01:33 AM

Re: A day working on the Probe

true, passengerside of the engine is tight.. the other side is quite spacious when you remove the air intake..

There's space for a SC :naughty:

FWD cars can handle.

I used to have one of these, a 1993 Capri XR2 turbo. It was rated at 132hp but with mods easily hit 190hp. Came factory stock with Michelin P195/50-ZR15's and was the first FWD car that shocked me by how well it handled.

The other car is my 1993 Probe SE which handles better than either of my Mustang LX's. After driving my 4cyl LX Mustang convertible the Probe SE feels like a rocketship.

OEM US-spec Armrest with cupholder and OEM Graphic EQ on the way from the states!

Also getting a small licenseplate for the front tomorrow.. illegal, but I'll take my chances, as it's sooo much better looking on the nose of a Probe.

HairySheep May 4th, 2007 04:54 AM

front plates are illegal there? its illegal not to have them in some states here!

FWDs understeer, but so do pony cars like the Mustang, but you cant throw the rear end out on a FWD like you can a Mustang, unless your using the E-brake

The Ravager May 4th, 2007 05:13 AM

The probe looks great looks almost new now.

wait illegal? in Ohio USA its illegal not to have front plates and if your going to get them why are they on your car in those pics?

Huffardo May 4th, 2007 05:14 AM

The armrest sounds comfy, been looking for one a long time, but never found one. :(

Normal front plates aren't illegal, actually they are probably mandatory in the Netherlands too, but any other plates than the official ones are. Thus small custom ones are illegal and should bring some heavy fines if he is caught.

HairySheep May 4th, 2007 06:04 AM

thats a weird law, whats wrong with vanity plates

Jackthehammer May 4th, 2007 07:09 AM

I must have the big license plates... It's illegal to have small ones, highly illegal to have none.. I going with a small one up front, let's see how long I can drive without getting pulled over.

Oh, and I got the probe oversteering lots of times without the E-brake.. First the understeer, let off the throttle and the back will go aswell. It's hard to control though. Not recommended. Almost totalled my old Probe SE that way in the wet... :(

Jackthehammer May 4th, 2007 10:41 PM

yay for small plates!

I don't think he means vanity plates, I think he means non DPS-issued ones. Note the first set of pics he posted, then the new one he posted:

The second one is the same number, but shorter, and no blue bar to the left.

Jackthehammer May 5th, 2007 06:42 AM

yep and therefor illegal.. but it's much better lookin'!

Anlushac11 May 6th, 2007 02:05 AM

I do say your Probe looks a heck of a lot better than mine.

HairySheep May 6th, 2007 02:32 AM

yah, it does look a litle better, with the smaller one it doesnt block part of your fog light recess, just dont let the man bring you down!

i just got done putting in new seatbelts, i also took the seats out so i could clean all that crap out from under that you cant get to with them in
17 years of dirt and food and money looks really creepy (and shiny) i got about $4 in quarters and change in nickles and dimes

took me about 2 hours, 76* isnt to bad untill you work inside a car, thats in direct sun light in the middle of the driveway, it feels like 90* when that sun goes through the windows

Jackthehammer May 6th, 2007 03:05 AM

hah! I need money, good tip!

Now for the original US-spec Armrest + cupholder and graphic equalizer!

Marine Sniper15 May 6th, 2007 06:28 AM

Dang your probe is lookin pretty classy Jack!

Heh, so you were unable to take the competition anymore and bumped the red one in the sea? ;)

Jackthehammer May 20th, 2007 06:48 AM

Damn, I waited for the bubbles to disappear so nobody would notice...

The Ravager May 20th, 2007 10:20 AM

Hey I know what you could do. Sequential tail lights works on any car with multi bulbs Ive seen new chargers like that click

Jackthehammer May 20th, 2007 04:11 PM

Rice Rice baby, no thanks... ;)

The Ravager May 20th, 2007 04:25 PM

Rice thats a bit harsh sequential lights came from the 67 Mercury Cougar just to give it something that was functional and was cool.
But then again thats just me.

Jackthehammer May 20th, 2007 04:39 PM

yeah I know, could be worse. But no, I'm the only one in the Netherlands with these US-spec tails, and I love them the way they are. They're already illegal, so I'm not gonna ask for any more attention making them sequential..

New brake discs, lowering, armrest, EQ and some other audio things are on the list first.

HairySheep May 20th, 2007 05:16 PM

i need to get me some EDM headlights and get rid of my JDMs, they were cheaper than new USDM lights is why i bought them but im tired of the cutoff being on the wrong side of the road

those are some nice pics, i wish there was someone with another nice (not that mine is very nice) Legayc here to take pics with, all ive seen are ones people use as beater cars

Shintsu May 20th, 2007 05:54 PM

Why don't you record a video of it taking off or something?

Huffardo May 20th, 2007 06:22 PM

Good idea, we need to hear that 24V. :nodding:

Jackthehammer May 20th, 2007 10:48 PM

I might look into that.. though I'm not satisfied with the sound of the Sebring muffler..
