whats the worlds current fastest car?
the fastest i know of is the lamborghini diablo at 206 mph. but that was back in the early 90's.

I'm going to get a bunch of arguing for saying this, but the Bugatti Veyron is the fastest (top-speed) road-legal car.

Something like a top speed of 240 mph.

actualy its 252mph, im prety sure its faster (like 270), but they have a speed limiter on the production model
0-60 is 2.5seconds
0-124 is 7.3seconds
0-186 is 16.7seconds

supposedly, its gets 10.6mpg in the city and 3.88on the highway.
running steady at WOT you will have 18-20 mitnutes before your tank is bone dry, but at 252mph, that will get you far

it has a 7speed auto tranny, that makes a shift in about 150miliseconds (1.5 seconds)

I believe the upgraded Saleen S-7 beat the Veyron, but just barely. And then the Shelby Super Cars Ultimate Aero beat that.

Ain't a Viper purty fast? I was watching Ripley's Believe it or Not one time, and it raced a fighter jet. It lost, but it had to be going purty quick even to compete w/ a jet.

Fastest Car titles have been changing like crazy lately. Some ppl are a bit slow to realise which one is the fastest, and which one counts in terms of production etc etc

yes, i would much rather have a Viper over the Veyron or the F-1, mostly because it looks better and it has that 8L V10, that McLaren is only a 6L V12, yes 6L (6L = 366cid) is still big but its a V12, the Viper is a 8L V10 which gives the Viper more balls than the Mclaren even though a 8L V8 (8L = 488cid) still sounds alot better i like that BLOB BLOB BLOB BLOB sound it makes when you idle as well and when you run it WOT it goes AAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!! and not a high reving WWWWAAAAAA!!!!!

and even more so, id rather build my own power, since i can easily get more power than a Viper (500HP) in under $10k, the only thing you get with these cars is a sweet handling package (sometimes not even that)

The stange thing is, i've seen the top speed of a McLaren F1 be anything from 228-241 mph.

Depends on if you've modded it :P. New intake on mine, chopped the exhaust pipe, put hydrogen in my tires. Oh yeah, I'm cruisin at 15... UPHILL

I read once that the theoretical top speed of a Vyper is 300Mph without restriction but i imagine the same or more could be achieved by the Bugatti too without restriction...

I also read an artical once about a guy who had his Vyper stolen, it was recovered but without an engine. So being an engineer himself he just built one. It was a 10.5 litre, 64 valve, W16, quad turbo engine coupled to a custom made 7 speed twin clutch gearbox and produced 1300hp. He tested its top speed once but said he lost his nerve at 250mph in only 4th gear. That car could do "silly speed miles per hour". If only there was a road long enough.

Thats not what i meant at all...Aerodynamics etc wouldn't be a problem, though it is true that the power required to make speed increases above 200mph is massive. In fact the only real thing stopping them would be lack of un off space and the fact the tyres would prob explode.

the main restriction on a cars top speed, i think would be the gear box

the more gears you have, will allow you to put a much higher final drive ratio in without putting a strain on the motor, it will help provide constant acceleration, but i geuss your top speed would be whenever your rpms max out in the final gear
but i heard the biggest gear you could possibly run would be the size of your flywheel, i thought i heard that somehwere, i could have just made it up
i think aerodynamics just make it take longer to get to top speed, i wouldnt think they could limit it
just put on some NHRA drag tires

i know i spelt a few words wrong myself, but theres no "y" in Viper or in tires
