$5000, what should i get?

Hey Car Know-It-All's :)

i really dont know much.
up until recently i thought nissan skline was really kewl.
then i went with my 24 year old bro to some car park on a thrusday night, where everybody shows off thier cars.
and i got in a conversation about cars...
they were saying how good holden commodore is,
why do they have to be boxes? lol...

i like smooth, curvey..
and skyline sounds good to me :D
and i think girls who dont know much would like skline as well.

help me out, what do you think i could get for $4000-$6000?

Re: $5000, what should i get?

Where do you live?

What type cars do you like? Ricers, V8 musclecars?
You looking for straight line speed or handling.
5 grand will not get you very much but answer my questions for a start.

5grand will get a nice FOX body Mustang GT/LX. They are great to MOD. Cheap parts and very fast.

Could also buy a old muscle car like a Chevelle, Camaro etc.. of course it will need a lot of work.

You can't go wrong with a Mini IMO, they handle pretty well, they are very light, and are quite cheap to run, also modding is not expensive and not too difficult either. You can fit a 1600cc or 1800cc Honda VTEC in a Mini or Clubman with a bit of work, if you really wanted too of course.

Another great thing about Mini's is that girls love 'em :D (well they do here anyway).

The equivelent of a late 80's Honda Civic or CRX like Beef said. I personally like the 1989 Honda Civic Si. I'm not sure about the availability of Civic in Australia.

If you want a skyline...the best you are going to get is probably a 1988 or so Skyline GTS...or soemthing like that, maybe type-S. :clueless:

Don't get too excited about Skylines etc just yet... they'll cost a packet to insure (unless you're loaded then just ignore my boring old voice of reason :) )

I have no idea what the market down there is like for them, but I'm going to hav eto toss out... a Corvair.

Odd, but not exactly ugly. Rather the red-headed stepchild of GM's '60s fleet, and quite cheap my modern standards because of it. And now that I've gone and said my bit of lunacy, I'll return this thread to those who'd like to discuss the relative merits of Skylines, CRXes and whatever girls happen to find most appealing.

Why do you care? I mean if you're not driving the car, and lets say you're sitting in your oversized heavy V8 bucket... what does it matter to you what some other dude is doing to his/her car?

Just wondering. :D

dude, minis start at $20,000, and used, the cheapest i've seen is $15,000. unless you mean the old austin mini's, then that would need work depending on how much you pay for it. they'd be hard to find parts for is you live in the US.
