Default bmp,jpg, and png

Assuming you graphics guys know alot about computer images, I thought I'd ask you a question about quality.

Which image file type is the best quality? bmp, jpg, or png? I don't know the difference.

I don't know much, but I'll tell you what I do know. Someone will probably have to correct me... .bmp has little to no compression, so has good color quality. .jpeg has better compression, but loses some color.

I know next to nothing about .png's.

Depends what you want the image for.
If you want it for a wallpaper, a BMP is the best.
If you have solid colors and/or text, GIF is good.
For photos, JPG is fine.
If you need transparency, go with PNG.
For high quality prints, use TIFF.
