Quick explanation that covers only the blade. I have provided a .psd file to demonstrate the basic idea. In the file, you will find 16 layers: I have included so many so that all of the basic saber colors would be accounted for. The effect (for one color) basically consists of six parts, or layers: the base image, which is your saber model and whatever background you choose; a solid black layer, which will be used in the final merge; two saber blade layers, one slightly blurred and the other quite noticably blurred; a colored shadow effect layer; and a solid color layer, color corresponding to the saber color, which will be used in the final merge to enhance the color.
