I can see the n00bs doing it now..... they'll try to fly it like a JU-52 or any "normal" airplane and crash into a group of their own people with bodyparts flying everywhere.

Yea, a personal favorite of mine is when there is a Ju52 at the beginning of the map with about 7 or 8 guys in it, and the pilot doesnt know how to open the door, and so he bails out over a flag and we all die, priceless...

Yes, that picture is of our glider after some guy without a joystick spawns as the pilot

Hey! I fly with a keyboard and i'm pretty good. I'm not MG42Maniac good but i still kick the shit out of n00bs...... joysticks don't mean a thing to me. I kinda don't like 'em anyways.

I just hope we won't have a guy spawn as a pilot who just bought the game and tries to fly it with a mouse:uhoh:

Uncle_Sam December 22nd, 2003 07:27 PM

Re: American Waco CG-4A Hadrian Glider

Haha, I hear that. I used to kick-ass with the keyboard too until I started using the joystick, and I haven't turned back since.

Or we have some asshole trying to get the thing to take off with it again after it's landed....... oh god that would be some funny shit.

I think we can trust you to get that baby safely down, it's the couple hundred other keyboard pilots I'm not so sure about. God save us all from the mouse glider pilots.

Though I think it's beyond the scope of the game, check this out:

Glider Retrieval by a C-47 in flight with the glider parked on the ground. From 0 to over 100 miles per hour in six seconds. Used to retrieve gliders on covert missions in enemy territory, to evacuate wounded, and to retrieve gliders after assault missions.

That happened to you too?

I quit flying the Ju-52 because for some reason I cant open the door. I have tried remapping the key to my joystick and it wont work, and the mouse key wont work. Same thing if someone is driving a jeep and I run up to get in I cant. Not sure what up with that.

Damn, am I the only one who finds that to look painful as hell? I mean damn, 0-100 in 6 seconds, thats G-force, is that a stretchable cord I assume. Or else it would snap, along with the hook on the C47, along with the necks of everyone on the glider. Probally is beyond the game as of now, but would be pretty sweet.

Re: American Waco CG-4A Hadrian Glider

Strike me up as another keyboard flyer. Tried a stick before... but I went back to keys for a few reasons:

a) Didn't do much better with a stick anyway.

b) Flying a helicopter in DC is easier with keys I find.

c) My desk is too small really, and I have to grab the stick and move it closer to me whenever I started to fly. Took too long to prep for flying ;)

I really can't see how people fly with a mouse though. Just the thought of trying to fly with a mouse... urgh.

Actually, as the quote said "to retrieve gliders on covert missions in enemy territory, to evacuate wounded". Some of the time there were people in the back of the gliders when they were picked up by the C-47's. And you definitely need a pilot in it to steer it, unless you want it veering into the ground and taking the transport with it. Also, you're going to need someone to land it when you get it back to where ever you came from.

I would imagine that the cord had some give, and that everyone inside was well braced, or else there'd be some serious whiplash, if not major injurys like somebody flying out the back.

Before I got my stick I did a few tests too see which would suite me better, mouse or keyboard and I found mouse much superior, you can turn tighter using a keyboard but I found you could have a much more steadier aim using the mouse, and its much more comfortable to use when your flying for long periods of time.

Can we just shut up, stop with the arguments/flames/hate and just talk about the damn glider without trying to prove points??

For the love of God let it die...no one cares...JUST GIVE FACTS ABOUT THE EQUIPMENT...everything doesn't have to be a debate for crying out loud!

Re: American Waco CG-4A Hadrian Glider

i actually use a combination, mouse for weapons, pitch, and roll, and the keyboard for rudder, its actually pretty comfortable, being a lefty, but i'm getting the Saitek Cyborg 3D Gold soon

AHEM! Let me clear this up by restating what started this SPR arguement:

Seeing as I pointed out it had too much weight because of the armored plate, no need for you to restate what I have said being it an abnormal glider.
I also mentioned "while piloting a glider might not be that realistically bad, I can still understand"....saying explicitly: I am not saying that is how they really fly, but I can understand that they can be a bitch compared to other powered aircraft.

I'm trying to be nice so I'll just say this: Please do a little research of previous posts and then make your posts.

Ferrari Enzo - 0-100mph in 5.8 sec.

1965 427SC Cobra - 0-100-0 in 14 sec.

Used to be a sales technique for the Cobras that a salesman would tape a $20 bill to the dash and tell customer if you grab it you can have it. Customer would move and salesman would punch the throttle pinning the customer in the seat and unable to move their arms to grab the $20 bill.

Sweet!!!! I'm gonna have to try that with my Geo Metro and some friends...j/k, still cool though.

Or you could simply make a static from which American troops spawn, that is, it's a static object on the ground, saying it's always landed.

I would hate to be an injured soldier in that glider.

I like that:deal: Also, is it possible to say, have the glider follow a certain path, make it unmanned and everything but say when someone clicks on the spawn, it follows a certain glide-path into a field. Or is automated flying not possible yet?

Ahh yes, I forgot about that! Don't they have Ju-52's fly by every 5 minutes or something? See, if we could make those C-47's that you could spawn into, that would be sweet as all for the start of a game.

I believe it is because Pierce is using this for his landing craft in his new Omaha Beach map.
