German Batterie Todt.

More than half a century ago, this ugly concrete gun turret housed 21 German soldiers. It was part of Hitler's formidable line of defences round the north French coast - the "Atlantic Wall". This gun was capable of bombarding English soil from across the english channel.

Re: German Batterie Todt.

I didn't see how big it is until I re-examined the shot with the ladder. What sort of gun is that? And where can I get one?

VeryPissedOffRob November 28th, 2003 09:07 PM

Re: German Batterie Todt.

Step#1: go to france

Step#2: find ww2 german shore battery that still contains this type of gun.

Step#3: Get a very large swiss army knife and crack the bunker open on top.

Step#4: Take gun under the cover of darkness

Step#5: Escape

Now if only this was on the Norway map to begin with, the Axis might actually stand a chance.... Versus the allied sitting on the ships and drinking tea while the krauts get blown away...

Old, but still good.

Re: German Batterie Todt.

But can that thing actually blow up? And if yes, then what blows up? Just the gun or the whole building?

And what's the wreakage gonna look like? Would it be possible to walk inside of it? ActionBF got "destroyable" building and you can walk in the ruins. If this would be something similar then that would be amazing!

Lordlemo's picture is the Batterie Todt as it currently stands, It is now a museum.

So it is not the most random picture, it is the real batterie Todt :P

Very nice find Lordlemo's.. good thing we already found this for development of this model :)

Well, there is only one Todt Battery. It is part of three batteries, situated not far from Calais (northern part of the Channel). So very far from Normandy.

The Todt battery is the only one which is opened to public, with a private museum in it. The gun is missing from the battery as it was dismantled by allies.
This museum is a mus-see for models makers, as they have a lot of amunition, guns etc... But they seems a little bit "border-line" as they sell some indirect nazis symbols, which is strictly prohibited in France. You can even buy a demilitarized MG42 (about 900€).

I have some pictures, but I don't know where they are...

you are right. it does look a bit in the small side. but mabey thats the idea :) to make us think that its small... and then when they bring it out in the mod... itll be huge! }> MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Re: German Batterie Todt.

Batterie Todt's guns were 380mm or 15 inch.

The Prince of Wales had 14 inch guns, USS Missouri had 16 inch.

Guinny_Ire December 4th, 2003 09:37 AM

Re: German Batterie Todt.

If you're American hoping to bring those de milled guns back think again. I'm guessing the receiver has been torch cut where BATF (USA) regs require the receiver torch cut into 3 pieces. And my understanding is no receivers period now plus they're torch cutting the trunions on mgs. Now if it's built on a dummy receiver you can probably bring it back but there's a form for importing militaria into the US. You might be able to get a bayo mailed to you but you'll never get that mg in without jumping thru the hoops.

The French definition of museum must be letting things sit outside in the rain without any manner of upkeep and rust so that they will be mystery hunks of rust and paint in 20 years.

One thing the Germans know is to keep things inside in humidity controlled buildings with regular upkeep and a nice velvet rope barrier to keep the kiddies muddy paws off them.

What really pisses me off is that there are like 2 Elefants left in the world, one is in a nice enclosed structure in Russia, but the other is sitting outside in the US with a freaking gallon of battleship grey tremclad to protect it.

Cool pics of both the model and the real thing. What is the purpose of the circular flanged thing above the gun?

Elefants would be too good in FH until we get an SU-152!

Well I'm confused now - after looking at more of that website's plans, etc I dunno if it looks too small or not ;)
Oh well doesn't matter really; I'm sure the guys making the models are putting as much effort as possible to make things authentic.
