is there a possibility of a FH naval battle...

i was just wondering if anyone on the FH team or any other modders were planning a naval battle map or mod based on great battleships such as the bismark, hood and the familiar prince of wales. it could be based on a search and destroy type map and it would not even have to be historically accurate. it could include u boats and early carriers and being a water based map couldnt it be made very large?

They are doing a bismarck map...bismarck, prinz eugene(right?), other boats, and the infamous fairey swordfish that lead torpedo strikes on the ship.

lbaran36 May 5th, 2003 08:34 PM

that will be real cool if they do. its seems so far most naval maps are carrier based with air combat being the focus of everything.

Malsa May 6th, 2003 03:07 AM

Yeah, they are producing naval maps and naval units. But the ships takews alot of time to make.

Major Hartmann May 6th, 2003 12:04 PM

Also the ships got a little bit more heat. When you got an artillery spotter (man or plane) near the enemy fleet, your battleships can pound the hell out of them while half a map away...
That can wreck your carriers day in seconds.

I cant wait to fly a biplane, that will be a blast!!

raslin May 6th, 2003 05:04 PM

Maximus, it is one of the greatest experiances you will ever have...judging from my Trench Rats testing, anyways...

i wonder if they can make the damage to the ships centered on the areas where they are hit. examples: hits near the guns would slow down reload time, hits near the rudder/propeller would effect steering and speed. that would make it somewhat realistic but still a blast to play.

Hey I hope the sound guys go real hardout on the swordfish..I mean it was an open c0ckpit so there should be a nice wind gushing by sound as well as a nice loud engine...should be a real noisy bastard to fly.

I love artillery...cant wait to take out ships from the other side of the map.

Major Hartmann May 7th, 2003 02:50 AM

We can't respect the exact location of the hit to make changes in the ships behaviour. Probably we'll have destroyable mainturrets, but not 100% sure yet.

ArcherMH May 7th, 2003 08:23 AM

I can see it now:

Four or five destroyers with an equal number of torpedo or dive bombers closing in on three or four enemy battleships, and several smaller ships, all with smoke rising from where the turrets are supposed to be. The destroyers and planes proceed to smash the enemy fleet to bits until they're all resting on the bottom.

That be sweet. For the carriers, have you considered making the flight deck destroyable too? It'd be funny to watch a plane start its take off as a bomb destroys a section of the deck, and then the planes rolls into the hole, explodes, and proceeds to sink the carrier.

The maybe the germans can finally use their submarine in a map and the british their battleship:eek:

flycatcher May 7th, 2003 09:25 AM

Can the subs have deck guns? I know its ask a dozen times already and every time you get the same answer, you can fire the deck guns underwater so it isn’t going to be in.
The sub can fire torpedo’s wile under water but goes to the map when totally submerged so it could work to for the deck guns if they go to the map when 10% submerged

Malsa May 7th, 2003 09:28 AM

Flycatcher, do you mean like this?:

Ok, first of we'll suppose that the subs have deck guns so when the sub dives the persons operation the deckguns goes inside the sub, pretty much like the driver?

flycatcher May 7th, 2003 10:00 AM

Yes something like that

StukaAce#1 May 7th, 2003 06:43 PM

and somehow the LWS will make its way into a map, possibly not a navel map though ;)

lbaran36 May 8th, 2003 08:23 PM

i look forward to this type of naval mod and it looks like this team are the ones that can do it. the whole fh mod seems to be a well thought out and crafted mod by a dedicated team, i cant wait to see the finished result.
