why i prefer FH2 to RO These days i bought a copy of RO and started playing it, for a few days, it's been fun, yet i found that there are no substitute for FH2.. yet. I am not saying RO is a poor game, but FH2 makes the battle more realistic feel compared to RO, which had many more "realistic" details, i love how FH2 combined simplicity and historical accuracy. i want to share my view in a few aspects...English not my mother language so skip the proofreading part. 1. Tanks Why FH2 is superior to RO in tanking? you might say, FH2 tanks are "unrealistic" because they have majical views, one man crew... while RO have driver and a commander, more realistic views, better tank sights... I think it differently, having those "realism" details doesn't necessarily makes the tanks behave more realisticlly in the battlefield... in real life, a tank is of course not 1-man crewed, however, the crews are well trained, having good cooperation, you could think of it as 1-man, instead of in the gaming world, when there's a Japanese driver and a Russian tank commander, it would be a chaos.... (imagine the commander saying bad words because the driver don't stop when he wants to fire) so making 1-man tank is a good abstraction, and makes tanks behave realistically in the battle. And more importantly, it doesn't suck up so many players to operate a tank efficiently. at what point the FH2 tank combat model is insufficient? the realistic penentration and the interiors... shells stucking in the tank and kills everyone inside. However, a 1-man model is still possible as you don't need a human player to play as the loader, the radio operator, and the driver, could be a bot, as well, as long as he(the bot) doesn't get shot and you can move the tank around as the commander. 2. Infantry RO got bunch of better infantry details, such as the weapon resting, the bayonets, the machine guns, and, cooking of nades and more importantly, the choice of favourite weapons and the picking up system. it's 50:50, althought FH2 is "inferior" at those points, FH2 don't have insane grenade spam (cept a few maps), FH2 don't have suicidal satchel chargers, and more importantly, FH2 got a large variety of weapons, such as the riflenades, the anti-tank grenades... etc the most annoying part of RO is, the grenade spam, you don't even need a SMG in close quaters, you only need a grenade with fuse pulled.:Puzzled: and it's also funny that the Russians use panzerfausts against tank and had nothing else to defeat the tanks cept the AT rifle. althought the RO weapon picking system is nice, it often works very poorly, spending half a minute just to collect the ammo and the PPsh you badly need... :rofl:of course it often end up with a Russian poping up with another PPsh near you. 3. Map designs well i can't comment much on FH2's maps but i really appreciate the lack of spawn camping in RO's maps, and there aren't any men magically spawning in the area supposed to be combat zones. 4. Gameplay (general) RO is full of TKs... why? no minimap icons(the players), pull the nade, charge, and throw.. end up nading a squad of your teammates. having the minimap icons doesn't always means unrealistic, as a soldier in real life, i suppose he would be knowing where his comrades go before moving to action(spawning), in games, it's impossible, after you died you just have fun viewing the cameras ... how could you grasp what's happening out there? :uhm: FH2 had another strenght, the air supports, it adds another element on the battlefield, however i did feel that there's a little bit too much strafing runs. FH2 is a nice game, i never got bored in the desert, only the lack of players makes me bored...:bawl: and that's all i want to say ! |
Re: why i prefer FH2 to RO You should try Darkest Hour, an excellent WWII mod for RO. But i don't know why, i can't get used to the gameplay. :( |
Re: why i prefer FH2 to RO i play some rounds from time to time, mostly when there were some major updates or some new mods out. tanking is great when you got your driver/commander in teamspeak and know each other. the lack of airplanes in RO is a big bummer however most maps wouldnt work well with air support. imo RO is more base in infantry combat while FH tries to portrait ALL parts of WWII combat. |
Re: why i prefer FH2 to RO Yeah I agree with General_Henry, one man operating the tank wont necessarily make the tank behave less realisticly. I for one prefer FH2, even though RO have alot of features I really love. Their tank damage system is alot better (BF engine limitatins, I know) then FH2 and the weapon resting is a nice feature. I have yet to try out Darkest Hour, has it come out now? :O |
Re: why i prefer FH2 to RO I used to like RO. But it grew very boring and in an awfully short time. From oooh aaah freshness to the oh god frustating. RO does have some nice things like vehicle interiors, commander views in the turret and so on. But its just too stiff in both infantry and tank combat to make it really interesting. Mostly, the tank combat tends to turn into snipefest where the one at the best spot with the biggest and most powerful gun wins the game by just sitting there and shooting enemy tanks as they come around to its sights. Also, the infantry combat feels like if the soldiers would of shat their pants. And I used to love the infantry combat in RO but its just so sluggish these days, prefer FH2 over that in many aspects. RO is still a fun game now and then, I dont play it online anymore, but I play it offline every now and then. And with future code improvements to tanks in FH2 (like the newer models of the shermans atm), the clunkyness and heavy feel will be there. Making the tanks seem like multiton metallic beasts rather than speedy gonzales. Im sure Kev' will work his magic on all vehicles during the course of time. Also, in FH2 one crewmember replicates the whole crew in their own duties (minus hull-gunners). In RO you need to have people with common sense and knowledge of wtf they are supposed to do right to make the tank combat fluent with all crew members present, not just one guy changing seats... |
Re: why i prefer FH2 to RO personally i like the game.. and no complain about it.. |

i think it was released D-DAY last year =p they first suffered from quite a lot of bugs and stuff (i guess they rushed to release to get it out on D-DAY) a few patches later it plays quite well and is fun if you like RO. I loved how i the first release on some tank battle map the panther needed 3 shoot in the back of a sherman to make a kill at point blank range. always made me cry :bawl: i guess they fixed most of then bugs & balance issues but i havent played for quite a while now. they got some nice maps too like the assault on the 105 battery in BoB episode 2. some d-day maps and other stuff. |
Re: why i prefer FH2 to RO Basically i dont Play FH2 now, im just playing PR and Pro Evolution Soccer 08. I am those who "Add me to the list of Waiting for Normandy". |

Re: why i prefer FH2 to RO The infantry part of RO brought me down, as Flippy says it. Too stiff. FH2 wins that one. But, the tank fights! Hell yeah to the yeah-yeah. "11 o'clock! Dammit I mean 1 o'clock!" "600 meters!" BOOOM |
