Had to commandeer one to take out a PzIIIJ, 1 shot to the back and another to the flank, nothing. In fact I was the one who ended up getting lasered.
Another example, I knock out a DAC (easy shit, even the doorknocker could kill them) and a Crusader III with a frontal hit (which is well thithin the abilities of the Pak38's 50mm AP round), yet a flank shot to the gas tank of a Sherman yielded nothing.
Did something change with the 50mm AP's penetration/damage charactreristics?
The Pak38 in no way compares to the 75mm on the Pz4F2. Hell, you can't even go by caliber for penetrate in technical terms, as the 75mm on the panther was superior over all to the 88mm on the tiger.
Of course it does (The grant side door is a good example) I remember hitting the ammo once on a Pz3 I think and boom in one shot :P Rear is usually a good bet, but there are others. Drivers slits, treads, etc. They have a good damage system in place

What i find weird about the pak 38 is that compared with the 6 pounder (57mm) it has only 7mm less, but an equal barrel lenght. However the 6 pounder is 10 times more effective then the pak 38.
well i know if this were a real live scenario, it comes down to alot of things. Type of propellant and how much of it is used to fire the shell. things like the shells weight, shape, length, width, the rifiling of the barrel it is being fired from, the direction the wind is blowing, i could go on all day with this stuff but i wont because my fingers hurt from typing :P.
But then again when it comes to FH2 i couldnt tell ya, thts just the way the devs made it.
as for those "sweet spots" my favorite place to shoot is between the treads where the wheels are, its flat so the shell dosent ricochet, and the armour (i would assume) wouldnt be as thick as the sides or front.

the 6 pdr was a lot "better" than the pak38 in real live thats why it is better ingame
the 6pdr was able to penetrate like ~ 90 mm on 500 m range
while the pak38 only penetrates ~70mm on that range
those are just rough numbers
some list will say different values but i guess you see the difference between the guns
