I hope its not a giant static b/c then it will be used and abused in just about every FH2 Normandy fan map to follow...just like the Tobruk church soon will be

McGibs explicitly stated that "it's one big static." The hooks wouldn't work otherwise

Probably will be abused in the fan maps, but hopefully not too much.

It'll be totally worth it if someone makes a "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" map and uses the statics to make a crescent canyon.

*EDIT* Ah, Lobo gave me the answer. It is just regular terrain but it has an invisible model over it that allows the grapple hooks to work. So I must retract my earlier comment that the hooks work on terrain now.

Custom maps are never looked upon as "abusive"... This is what mods are about; progressing... If some creative mapper makes use of the content of FH2 in a clever way, its just welcomed...be it a church, a chair or entire cities..
Statics are just tools to help a mapper create a level.

I know which is great, however when mods release a special static, mostly a very large one it is often overused by the swarm of fan maps that follow. For instance you will see the FH2 afrikan hangar on a whole bunch of them.

you could always make an infantry only patch concentrating on the 6th of June and beach/paratroop landings.

To be fair that hangar is fairly generic, particularly if the camo is changed.

Something like tobruk church or hotel is more strange when it's found in another map.

Looks beautiful and really atmospheric. It'll be great fun I'm sure for both sides! The fake guns on PDH have always been one of my favourite little quirks of WWII, and I'm glad to see you've done them justice. Kudos as ever, and great news from Lightning that Normandy really will be here when the gameplay elements required (rather than a large selection of maps) are available.

I still fear the fickle minds of the BF community will make good on the veiled threat of some horrifying post on TotalBF2 a while ago... 'when normandy comes can i download it on its own because i love wwii but don't really want the afrika'. Anyone else getting nightmares about the hard work on Africa being permanently forgotten about?

No way, this is the best portrayed NA I've ever experienced. You know, there will laways be some people for whom world war 2 would be equal to normandy only... but, for the god's sake, they are not everyone.
