It would be interesting if possible to code...if it overheats, press 3 like to change firemode, but instead it would play an animation that would show him reload the barrel, then it wouldn't be overheated anymore. Although, whats to say the downtime waiting for reheating to be any more than that of reloading the barrel lol

Ehm what if you code that as soon as the MG gets overheated a animation starts which changes the barrel instead of a TSSSS sound, so it's not manual but automatic.. Is this possible? Anyone? Ctz?

Probably not worth it, I mean, how often do you overheat you MG? never happened to me in FH.

Yeah your right.. Only happened to me when I was testing and messing around with some weapons in one of my first matches
But it would be cool.. and realistic.

The mg42 could take many rounds without overheating. The Germans had guidelines to not fire more then 350 rounds a minute or 250 rounds in a burst (not 100% sure on the numbers). I can't really see this happening much in FH. And in reality it could probably take a lot more bullets without overheating. And it is very unlikely that it'll be possible to code, without compensating by introducing other bugs or workarounds for it.

250 rounds in a burst...um...more like 5 rounds in a burst, and change barrels after 250 rounds.

You mean just rotate them to give them time to cool off, or to actually discard them as burned out? Surely they didn't ruin barrels that quickly!

Besides didn't gunners only carry like three spare barrels?

Rotate them:P Plus tripod mounted MGs used a heavier type of barrel that could go to about 500 rounds or more before it needed cooling. Though, sometimes, they were fired until they literally warped, usually when dealing with say, mass russian charges when u can't afford to change barrels.

Yikes. Reminds me of German mg'er Gunter Koschorrek's Blood Red Snow, in which he said he had to contend with belts of steel-cased 7.92 rounds (instead of the usual brass) which had some sort of rust-proofing lacquer which melted in the hot mg chamber and caused serious jams.

Can you imagine what that would feel like? Hundreds of Russians rise up in front of you shouting Urrah!, and you and perhaps a platoon of your guys are the only thing to stop them; and as you fire the only functioning MG-42 in your part of the line, it locks tight, the breech welded shut from the burned, gooey lacquer on the crappy ammo. Gives me goosebumps. IIRC Koschorrek said he kept at least one belt of 250 rounds of "good" brass-cased ammo for just such emergencies as the mass attack.

Must have been the same sort of feeling as Heindrich Severloh had during the invasion on Omaha Beach. Nothing else going in your mind than "Kill kill kill kill" like a machine. Kill as many as you can before they kill you. And when the gun goes out of function, out of ammo or jams... no one else than those who have been in the real situations knows how that really feels.
