Default Forgotten Hope 2 Newsupdate

Hello everyone,

I'm afraid that this thread is not as much an update with news in it, but rather an update about the news. I'm sure you have all noticed that our newsupdates have gone from being weekly, to coming once every two weeks, to once every month. Now, this is due to a lot of factors, but one thing that certainly has something to do with it is the type of replies that our updates have generated in the past few months. Especially the last newsupdate recieved almost exclusively comments regarding the lack of releasedate and the (apparent?) imminent end of the world. So, we have, as a team, decided to stop our official newsupdates until we have completed our first release and are able to give you all a solid and definate releasedate.

Now, before you all start panicing, I'd like to mention 2 thing. The first being that our first release is getting close. We've stopped adding new vehicles and weapons and are now fully focusing on finishing what's not yet done. The main thing that's left to be done is a small amount of maps. These maps are 95% done and it would be a shame not to include them in the first release. We have yet to start betatesting these maps however and that will take some time. I'm pretty confident that we are not able to realise a release in October, but everything should be done in November. The second thing I wanted to mention is that we don't think it's fair to keep you in the dark completely about our progress on FH2, so we'll be posting some 'goodies' every now and then in the forum to keep you updated. Think along the lines of screenshots from betatesting, or some statistics from FH2. We'll try to keep these as periodically as possible.

And the first of these screenshots we'd like to show you are right here. I'd like to mention, before you comment, that I took these screenshots in an older build and also that I have a pretty low-end computer, so I couldn't have anti-aliasing running. I think though, that they turned our pretty nice. We tried to shoot a small trailer for our 'Siege of Tobruk' map (by Lobo), but that didn't really work out. I did run the battlerecorder, so I was able to take these screenshots later. This scene shows the Germans attacking the British trenches, charging in with their bayonets attached.

The British team gets ready as the German troops get closer and closer. In this picture you can see, from right to left, a soldier using the Enfield No4, with bayonet attached, a soldier using the Enfield No4 without bayonet, two soldiers using brenguns and finally a soldier manning the static Lewis machinegun.

A British rifleman and Brengunner defend their position against the German attack. You can see the second German soldier fall to the ground as he is cut down by the hail of fire of the Brengun.

The British are unable to cope with the sheer amount of attackers, and as the Brengunner is shooting down targets to the left, three Germans, armed with K98 rifles approach to his right.

As the Brengunner is forced to reload, the three Germans are able to charge at the British mortar position, dodging the bullets from the British riflemen as they get closer. This mortar is a Ordenance ML 3-inch Mortar, and although it can be used in a direct fire mode, it will be more effective if you have a scout giving your targets.

And finally I have a rather strange picture for you. Battlefield 2's ragdoll effects can sometimes be a little twitchy and in this case when the German soldier was shot in the head by the tommygun, his head was flung backwards, making it look like his head was actually blown off from this angle. Though this is a bug, and not a feature, I thought it was too funny not to show you.

I hope that clears up any questions you might have had concerning our progress or lack of news lately. If there's anything more you'd like to know, you're welcome to ask.

Thanks for keeping us posted Lightning, this sort of reminds me when you guys had daily updates, but got rid of those due to the amount of bitching by some of the older members *sigh* why is it that a small group of people always have to ruin it for everyone :/

Great news. I look forward to November!

Perhaps this will finally set the whiners straight - a categoric explanation of the state of the union, so to speak.

Excelent work! The format for the update is a good idea. Nothing official so to speak and even a nice little story to boot! However it is a shame that you guys have decided to stop doing regular updates

As for a time frame, it is nice to have a revised guesstimate.

And lastly everything there is looking totaly fantastic! The Australian FH community is rooting for you FH Dev's! Keep up your amazing standard of work, we all know we're going to get something REALLY quite special in the not too distant future

Can't really give us updates if there is nothing new to update us on can you?

I am certainly not upset to hear that the mod is far along that there will be nothing new to update. It sounds like we will probably get screenies of the remaining maps as they develop so really its all good.

Lightning, the movie wasn't bad at all. I found it rather entertaining. :-)
As for this, it's great to know you guys are coming out with little goodies like these and are caring for the fans.

I think this update is a great one. It really sets things straight. Why should the FH devs have to put up with people complaining when they're doing all this top quality work for free? makes no sense. In my anger, i posted this rant on the bf2files.com FH2 news post there. I wanted to get the jump on mr. misnomer. Here's the quote:

"Well, honestly, I don't blame them for wanting to stop updates if all they're going to get is a bunch of babies whining about when THEIR FH2 will be on their hard drives. I personally liked the updates (like most people, i think) but there has been that constant annoying population of people that can't treat this mod like any of the other unreleased mods for BF2.

How many mods are in development and haven't been released? Lots. Why is FH2 so different? Do they have this magical obligation to release faster than anyone else? I just don't understand why people complain about something (a VERY high quality something, to be sure) that's FREE not arriving when they want it! It's just selfish. These guys have NEVER given a date, so you can forget about saying that they've lied about anything in the past. All they've given are rough estimates, and even then said they were subject to change.

It's a smart decision to just wait until release so they don't have to put up with any more crap. Besides, if you're really a dedicated fan or someone who really cares about constructive criticism, then you'll go to the forums anyway. I think it's a great way to get people more involved in the mod rather than just bashing it or praising it blindly all the time. I am confident that FH2 will be VERY high quality, will be tons of fun, and I will be downloading it. If the first FH is any indication of things to come, then I know we'll all be in for a treat."

Amen
