no it was front to front. Also i have noticed that a tiger is very vulnerable at the tracks in the front, 2 shots and its dead (from a jumbo)

Actually, a normal sherman can waste a Tiger in 2 shots, if it attacks the front treads.

Rather awesome way to vaporize the Panzywhores..

I think its BS

It is BS, but usually a good Tiger commander shouldn't let it happen. The Tiger isn't so good when facing decent tanks or good opponents. Also, hitting those treads is the only way for the shermans and T34 to kill a Tiger, so by fighting those from a good range you can usually prevent them from hitting you because its quite hard to hit those treads from afar.

I really hate that about the Tiger in FH1. FH2 needs better optics/realistic amounts of magnification for the panzer 5< to be used more closely to what history shows us.

Coke..mate, you better go and find a good tank sim to get anywhere near the realism aspects or the historically accurate features you're looking for. The FH devs do an amazing job working with this game engine as it is but it will never be a sim (stating the obvious) it was never meant to be.
I went out and bought T_72 Balkans On Fire. Biggest drawback ,no multiplayer.

Nah, in reality they were prone to breaking down.:D

The Sherman Jumo had roughly 101mm front upper hull armor, a 140mm thick transmission cover. Turret gun manlet was 178mm and 152mm on turret front and sides. and side hull was IIRC about 78mm.

The Tiger fired basically same round as the 88mm FLAK18. The 88mm L/56 firing PzGr39, the most common round could not penetrate a Sherman Jumbo's frontal armor unless it got lucky. If the Tiger was firing PzGr.40 I would not want to sit in the Sherman Jumbo even on a dare.

Sherman Jumbo, even a modified version with the 76mm gum should not have been able to penetrate a Tiger I's frontal armor unless firing the HVAP round which didnt appear til very late 1944 with TD units and in 1945 with limited availability in tank units.

Killing a Tiger by shooting the treads is exploiting a code flaw. Not historically correct but the only people who care are the Tiger crews and whoever the Tiger is shooting at.

But at a distance of 400m or so the 88mm canon should be able to penetrate 101mm armor no?
He was pretty nearby.

Anlushac11 May 28th, 2007 09:09 PM

You have to remember the armor on the Sherman Jumbo's front is sloped roughly 45deg from vertical meaning the round has to penetrate significantly more than 101mm.

well darn it, there goes my bubble of the all powerfull 88 canon. :bawl:
