Considering to buy a new graphic card for FH2, want some suggestion, plz

UNIKA X800XT(AGP)
256MB/256bit
HY 2.8ns DDR memory
16 pipes
400MHz/700MHz frequency

Now I'm using Raedon9800pro, and I want to buy a new card for FH2 which should be able to play FH2 at highest video setting. Do you friends think the card refered above can do this? I know X800 does not support DX9.0c, SM3.0, but I think these maybe not required too much in BF2 engine. 7600GS(AGP) is being released in my country, too, the prize of JETWAY version is almost the same as UNIKA X800XT. Could you friends give some suggestion for me to buy which one? I have only one request - to play FH2 at highest video setting. My CPU is AMD Sempron 64bit 2500+(Overclocked to 2.1GHz), RAM is 1.5GB.
:nodding:Thanks friends!:cya:

your processor is fine, you probably will have to add another half gig to that ram to play at the absolute highest settings, but 1.5 will get you by on a mix of medium/high depending on resolution. the x800xt should just be enough to get you highest settings. the x800xt is going to be faster than the 7600, even a gs.

My usual resolution is 1024*768, of course, 1280*1024 is better if possible:lol:

Anyway, I think 1024*768 is good looking enough.:naughty:

I play BF2/BF2 mods with a X800 GTO 256MB and 1.5GB RAM all on high with 4x AA at 1024x768 and it runs great.

It sounds great!

Mr_Cheese, your X800GTO has 12 pipes, right?

Well since you have a AGP motherboard, you have two choices:[list][*]Buying a new PCI-E motherboard with a PCI-E videocard ( which will be able to be updated with newer videocards later on ).[*]Buy a AGP card but be stuck with it as there won't be any ( or very few ) AGP VGA cards coming out soon.

If you decide to stay with your AGP, I can recommend you a Gainward 7800GS 512Mb which basicly uses the same core as a 7900.

If you decide to go with PCI-E, you could go for a cheaper 7600GT now and buy a DX10 card when they are released.

:uhoh: 7800GS? Polska, you must be joking! It costs too much!

I'm not planning to change to PCI-E right now, I will stick with AGP until DX10 is released. :naughty:

I have a x800xt, not overclocked, 1 Gb mem and a P 540 3,4 ghz, also not OC'ed.
I run it fine at 1280 x 1024 with 2x AA.
I kept my sounds settings on medium, cos they still bug me since 1942.

Could be that the Sempron is weakest link, kinda like a Pentium Celeron.
If you can upgrade your CPU, you must. BF2 is a hungry resource eating beast and i guess FH2 will add the beast's son and he is hungry too

That's too too long time until I can afford DX10 cards.:( (At least 1 year later?) It must be very expensive when it comes out, I can only buy it when its price gets low enough:uhoh:

Hmm I have the same sound card, maybe it is a combo of high sound and video settings that doesn't sit well with BF2.

I bought UNIKA 8028XT this afternoon, Now I can play BF2 at 1280*1024, all high video setting (except Dynamic Shadow is turned off, because the edge of the shadow is full of sawtooth, so ugly:( ), 4X Anti-Aliasing, 100% view distance. The average FPS is 50 to 60, enough to play smoothly.

I use the X850 pte xt it works like a dream. But the extra clock isnt worth all the cash..(unless you find it for real cheap)..but the the whole x800 familia rules the world of computer games with an iron fist of sexyness

This is kinda old of a thread, but I'm also looking for a new card since mine got to old a burned out on me.
What are some good ATI radeon suggestion for running BF2 and FH2?

Re: Considering to buy a new graphic card for FH2, want some suggestion, plz

Depends on you mobo and your money. Hvae you got PCI-E slots or AGP ?
If PCI-E get a x1800XT or better yet a x1900XT if agp a x800XT or x850PTE will do just fine.

If you have patience wait for the direct X10 cards to show. Saves you some money.

There could be a possible chance that the first DX10 cards could come out at the sametime when FH2 is released.

I use a Geforce 7900GTX with 512 MB Ram.
I can run BF2 in 1600 x 1280, with all on high and 4xAA and 4xAF.
Offcourse this is an expensive card, but it is worth

:teach: I hate to keep ruining everyones parade... but...:teach:

MICROSOFT finally saw sense and decided to drop Windows Graphic Foundation (WGF) and replace it with the more easier and logical DirectX 10 name for its nexgen API.

It gave some details to the developers officially about its upcoming API and we know that it plans to release this API together with Longhorn. Or Visa, as we must learn to call it. The DirectX 10 API will have completely new and faster dynamic link libraries (DLLs) and is supposed to run much faster.

*** Pay attention to the following***

The company decided to cut the backward compatibility with DirectX 9, 8, 7 and lower in this API but there will be a way to use games programmed for those APIs. Microsoft will enable support for DX 9 or lower games through a software layer, meaning it might run slower.

Meaning, DX10 is not natively backwards compatable with DX9, the protocol used by BF2 and consequently FH2. Yeah, im sure BF3 will be DX10. So if we were all using a forum dedicated to a game that uses DX10 I think it would be a great idea to wait for that card.
In fact, maybe it would be a great idea to wait until DX10 cards come out because then the DX9 cards will drop in price. But if you do buy a DX10 card your FH2 performance will suffer as you will have to use another layer of software to translate DX9 signal to a DX10 card.

IOW good luck with that!

Re: Considering to buy a new graphic card for FH2, want some suggestion, plz

Although I agree with you on not buying DirectX 10 card the minute they're available. I think that the performance suffering will be marginal. Don't forget they keep cranking the speed, pipelines, memory, etc. up for videocards.

Wait till the second generation DX 10 Vid cards, cos the first one will have a few bugs for sure.

Or beter yet if you can play FH2 with high settings, don't even bother to buy a DX10 card. Cos they will be only a few games availabe that require DX10.
