Re: Newsupdate July 17th Very nice, best lot of statics yet. This is one of the few true total conversion mods for BF2. My Phazon sense is tingling, I have a feeling the next update has something to do with playermodels. ;) |

Re: Newsupdate July 17th So are we going to see more then just 1 map with a bunch of statics and vehicle placements? I don't mean to sound crude, but given how long you folks have been working on this, how many models that you only need to port over to the bf2 engine, and the fact that we're hitting the 1 year anniv of bf2, it seems to be only 1 maybe 2 maps so far, a handful of vehicles, and a few statics. In comparison to other mods like POE2, for example, who has all vehicles pretty much done (From scratch), player models done (not completely from scratch but pretty close), and 9-10 maps done with modifying all statics (from scratch), a crap load of new ones, and even new environment changes right down to the grass(from scratch), with 2 or 3 new game modes. Timeline has been similar, and team size is close to the same as well. They are looking to be in a much better place right now then FH, and I'm lost with how, if at all, this mod is truely progressing. Yes I know this is being done for free, and yes I know its done on their own time, I have even told people to stuff it for asking when, but I am NOT asking when, I am simply pointing out that FH doesn't seem to be making much headway in comparison to the other mods being created right now, and I was simply wondering what the reason was. It may be as simple as "There are actually 7 different maps that we've shown, its just that they are all desert and look similar" or "Its actually only 1 map, but we are focusing on other areas right now" Just wondering. |
Re: Newsupdate July 17th Not to put POE down, but their models are of less quality than FH2's in many cases, POE can release whenever they think they have enough vehicles and guns and they can make it work, but FH2 is suppost to be a convincing wwII experience, you cant have that without sertain vehicles, guns and statics. Progress is most sertainly being made. |

I do not agree that POE's quality is any less, however, they can make greater use of existing BF2 content (Despite this, they have chosen to replace much of it with their own stuff anyway). Also, any modern mod is assisted by the fact that it does not have to contend with the multitude of different equipments used by all sides in WWII-- because of prevailing armor design concepts, and the rapid pace of weapons development during the war. Just the British tank force in North Africa, for example, looks almost completely different from early 41 to late 42, and requires a half dozen or so different tanks with many potential subvariants. Modern armored forces are centered around the concept of the main battle tank, and if you make one tank, you have fulfilled the minimum tank requirements for an entire army. There are stilll many other vehicles needed for a modern mod--APCs, recon, artillery, soft transport, aircraft--however, FH2 needs the same range of vehicle types--and again in many different flavors. We are not trying to make everything, but if we do not make enough, it will fail to provide the depth that is part of made FH1 a successful mod. I am sorry if you are feelling impatient, but you are simply mistaken in your impressions about FH's progress. Edit: Eglaerinion beat me to it :) |
Re: Newsupdate July 17th I would say that it should be worth the wait. Not knowing how far along they (the dev team) are doesn't seem to bother me. I think that its nice that they take the time to even let us in on the progress that they have made every week. In fact, it seems pretty asinine to post your comparative analyses in this thread, since it seems more of a place to respond specifically to those things which were in the update for this week. |
