Bah, that's not so insane like an atlantik wall bunker with a french cottage and an old woman painted in the wall as camouflage, unfortunately I can't find the pic

Also interesting is this german soldier, who camouflaged his helmet with mud...

It was actually quite common, it was done primarily to remove the 'shine' of light reflecting on the helmet, though it also acted as a crude camouflage.
