How can i lower my ping for FH.
 

im not sure if you can lower ping but i wanted to ask. my ping is always high and it prevents me from joining some servers. if anyone can help please post something. if so please include all sorts of details that will help.

You can disable anti-virus program and firewall, though then your system might be attacked if you already have some trojans (after disabling firewall). You should also scan your system for spy ware and viruses by updated programms for these things. Finally you can turn off any other program that is connecting ot the internet while it's running and is not nececary for system to run.

I used to believe that my ping would be slightly better when I turned down my resolution, since there is less up and download for the computer.

Not at all. You as client are reciving data about other clients deeds and game state. Your game handles it all without any need to send graphics or rendering information. High resolution can affect only your performance unless you have CPU old enough to not be able to handle internet connection and other program running at the same time.:p

Nah, the resolution doesnt affect up and download at all.

Hawk, where do you live, what servers do you connect to, and what kind of connection do you have ?

well i live in canada newfoundland. my ping is ranging from at leat 100 to sometimes on some servers 350. it even does this when firewall and antivirus programs are off. i have dSL modum. i think around 556k or so. and it is not only FH servers its on all the games that i have and it really bothers me when i connect and 2 seconds later i get kicked. also i dont know of any other programs that are running using internet. also what does "move closer" to server mean.

He means like literally MOVING closer to where the server is located, say if it was it located in New York to literally move to New York. Thus the connection has to travel less distance. Of course, I'm sure he's joking :p
Ping isn't something you can't just "improve" by tweaking some settings in or out of game, you just have to get a better connection like Yossarian said. Either that or by joining servers located in Canada or nearby, you shouldn't expect good ping from servers located in Europe or farther out.

Your ping is the measure in time between sending info and getting it back from a server.

In 1 ms even light can only travel 150 meters and back 150 meters. For a place 6000 km away, it takes light 40 ms to go round trip "as the crow flies" (the electricity takes a much twistier route) but there are lots of other delays involved.

56K uses technology that adds at least 60ms delay in the analogue-digital conversion, and every bit of hardware it goes through adds more time.

BF2 is just a bad game for Multiplayer. i rarly get in a server with less then a 150 ping. the game has such band ping that your reg is off most the time. but EA is to buisy makeing the worst game ever 2042. lol. how about BF3 and make it a WWII game. or the cold war that never happened. a nucklear wastland of a planet and we fight in the ruins of new york, moskow. everywhere. would be sweet but hey they have to make mech worrr oh sorry bf2042. I HATE EA. they care about money and the easyst fastest thing to make. bowcott EA game.

well thanks for all the info. as for slashinator. i agree with you that bF 2142 is a bad idea. i think they should go back and remake some of their old games like ww2 or a vietnam game again. or they should do the wars they missed like korea or ww1. i know there are mods but still there are no FPS games for korea and i think there should be a gmae for this war because it is called the forgotten war and i think the veterans of this should be rememberered. but this is way oof topic from my post. but it is great to talk about it.

I'm sure you meant kilometers and not meters, but just pointing it out for those interested :)

I usually get pings of 18ms or as low as 10ms on servers in Germany, to give you an idea how tight that is; the node a few kilometers away from my house already takes 4-8ms.
So no, the game isn't designed badly in it's use of the network stack.
Funny enough I have never, ever had pings that low on FH servers in Germany, but that's probably due to placing, network connections and the server hardware.


Preferably into the server closet ;)

thats not because resolution affects down- or upload, its just because your PC has less work and responses faster to the incomming signals.
this way FPS are connected with your ping.

tought you don't have the best PC then.
but its not like pixel per pixel is transfered from the server to your pc - if it would be like this you would be able to play any online game on a super nintendo.
