In 1 ms even light can only travel 150 meters and back 150 meters. For a place 6000 km away, it takes light 40 ms to go round trip "as the crow flies" (the electricity takes a much twistier route) but there are lots of other delays involved.

So no, the game isn't designed badly in it's use of the network stack.
Funny enough I have never, ever had pings that low on FH servers in Germany, but that's probably due to placing, network connections and the server hardware. Quote: |
