Re: Planet Battlefield Forgotten Hope 2 Interview The answer may be obvious to all, but while they asked about air, land, and infantry units, there was no question about sea units. I'm not too clued into the issues with sea units, but I thought I read somewhere that the BF2 engine has problems with moving ships. I'm curious of the FH2 team has a comment on the use of sea going units and would have liked to see that question asked. If there is a problem with sea units, then I guess the Pacific theatre will be limited and not the next to be introduced after Africa. |

I just dont like the idea that's all, smoke barrages coming out of nowhere? I'd rather have fun engaging the enemy than hiding behind a giant smoke screen. Okay, so what if I get killed. I play the game to have a battlefield raging on around me, I dont wanna have a stalemate behind some smoke. It'll be so overly used in FH2 that people are going to get fed up of it, being able to see nothing all the time. It's going to take all the fun out of the game. Wanna move forward? Use a smoke screen! Want to defend this position? Use a smoke screen! Need another Miller from the fridge? Use a smoke screen! Etc. |
Re: Planet Battlefield Forgotten Hope 2 Interview There are currently some problems with large moving objects (the fact that if you touch them, you die) which presents some problems for large naval ships. We can do them, but you wouldnt be able to exit and walk around on the deck. Though I belive that the collision issues are being resolved in a future BF2 patch, so with any luck we can have giant battlecruisers blasting away on the open seas with salors happily running around on the decks. I find your lack of faith disturbing. BF2 handles smoke effects very well, with very little performance hit. Smoke barrages dont come from no where, they come from artillery batteries. and youre talking like it will have a 3 second cool down. The process of game design seems lost on you. |

And NCOL, I don't know how the devs plan to do it but it seems likely to me that the commander wouldn't be able to lay down an infinite amount of smoke but instead would have to wait for a while in between each smoke screen. Also in bf42 some mods seem to have smoke that doesn't cause a lot of lag. edit: see mcgibs' edit. |

i like the idea.. but it must likely aint gonna be used to lay down cover smoke but rather to blind the enemy by droping it on thier position.. wich imho would be damn anoying. |
Re: Planet Battlefield Forgotten Hope 2 Interview Thanks for the comment on ships, McGibs. And, BF2 1.03 is announced to be out in a day or two; hopefully, no more dying when a slow moving jeep touches me. Smoke barrage should add some great variety to game play. It's a tactic used in WW2. I think they used it allot at the start of an engagement. |
Re: Planet Battlefield Forgotten Hope 2 Interview Yeah, that's another point I missed. In BF2 you can rain down artillery shells on any part of a map. How annoying would it be if some retarded commander decided to either a) launch a barrage of smoke into your own base or b) do it to the other team's main base. I'm not lost in game design, I'm just looking at it from a pessimistic view. It will be abused by players, and I dont want to see that happen to one awesome mod. Also it's as if the team is going to be completely reliant on smoke screens to do anything. How much would that ruin gameplay? |
