sandbags on tanks

will the sandbags add hitpoints on the tanks. also will there only be stronger hitpoints where there are sandbags? im looin foreward to .7

Re: sandbags on tanks

yes they will. in one of the updates they have stated that zooka rounds and AT rifle rounds wont do any damage if they hit the sand bags

well does it protect the crappy italian tanks a bit? well are the italian ranks even worth going into battle with?

Re: sandbags on tanks

I think they are good tanks for the African theatre...not uber against maybe a matilda, but then again, you have few tanks that can penetrate that armour.

Mp5-Killa September 17th, 2005 02:11 PM

Re: sandbags on tanks

Well I'm not sure about the Italian tanks. The sandbags only protect against shaped AT charges from Panzerfausts and the like. The italians tanks maybe slightly protected against Boys AT rifles. I'm not totally sure - sorry :).

Lobo September 17th, 2005 02:55 PM

Re: sandbags on tanks

That's right, sandbags, skirts and spaced armour have not effect in the tank rounds but disable totally the AT shaped charges and AT rifle rounds

Does this mean that I can go forward with my panzer IV, without fearing a bazooka in my side?

Re: sandbags on tanks

but why is it that you can kill a PzKpfw IV Ausf. H (with skirt side armor) with a panzerfaust?

Well no, if I'm the guy with the bazooka. :naughty:

Seriously, the treads are still the weak spot, and the skirts don't completety cover them but the bazooka guy has to be quite close to hit the treads.

Re: sandbags on tanks

It's a lot more difficult to knock out a tank with an AT weapon or AT rifle round in 0.7. Sandbags, spaced armour and sideskirts arent totally effective, but if you're an M4A1 Sherman driver in Falaise or Bocage you feel a lot safer knowing that it's more difficult for the enemy to flank you and take you out.

The Italian tanks are funny things. I'd say that the M13/40 is comparable to an British Crusader I and the L6/40 is comparable to an British M3 Honey, but only just.

The guns are somewhat weaker, but not Ha-Go type weak. They arent useless, because they still have a fair bit or armour and speed. These are their selling points. Then again, if you're cruising around in a Semovente you dont have too much to worry about. Both are great tanks.

I sometimes pick the M13/40 over the Panzer IIIJ. Not because I'm an Italian tank nut (though I cannot deny the fact that I am, I love them) but because I find it to be a much more balanced tank overall. It's speed also helps greatly on maps like Tobruk where you have to hit hard and move fast.

Lobo September 17th, 2005 04:11 PM

Re: sandbags on tanks

Yes, the skirts will only protect the part they are placed (obviously), but at long distance they are a great help. I was betatesting Foy, and using a Panther, I was hearing the hits of the bazookas in my sides, was a great moment, a warm feeling of safety, hehe

Re: sandbags on tanks

I think this feature will be awesome as well because sometimes it's just totally frustrating to get owned by AT personel in a brand spanking new tank and to add insult to injury the whole business of the tanks blowing up violently and hopping just pisses the tanker off even more. It probably wouldn't be so bad if it was a 1 shot -> disabled & flaming concept rather than 1 shot -> explosion.

Anyhow, I can't expect miracles and so I welcome this with wide open arms, you guys get great credit for coding this in and I'm sure it makes the game that much more of a blast to play.

In FH2 I want the sand in the sand bag to flow out of the bag when hit. Cool effects and they wont be there forever. :)

off topic but, what time is it by the clock that the updates are posted by? just so I can figure out the time difference.

anyways it be cool to have a huge explosian of sand along with whatever the regualar blast effect of the weapon is.

btw, have you devs given any thought to different energies for each side of the tank (if possible)?

The forums are experiencing techincal difficulties (posts are not getting chronically alligned among other things) but FileFront technical staff is working on it.

Be patient, in the mean time I suggest you delete posts of yourself thay went fubar and try again. They "might" get back to the place they were intended to go to but I can't say that for sure, and even then for aslong as the problem isn't fixed people will get confused.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

In FH2 is it possible for the sandbags to become useless after one or two hits, have them physically blown away from the tank?

Question: Can code made for BF1942 be ported over to BF2? If not directly, can the things your skills at coding for the 1942 engine be applied to the BF2 engine or will you have to reinvent the wheel so to speak?

I understand what you're saying, you're asking if code that the FH devs had implemented into FH1 themselves from scratch could be ported over to the new engine, which to me sounds fine, given that it's their code, the problem is with BF2 it now uses Python programming and I'm not really that well schooled in the coding of BF1942, but I'd imagine that the coding scripts the FH devs had written for FH1 from scratch are not compatable with BF2's Python language.

But its not from BF42, it's from FH...whatever. Am I misunderstanding?
