Bf2 with Forgotten Hope, Concerns and Praises Now, i see that everyone fall for the novelty of games (same thing when Vietnamn came, and then after a month or two the critisism came). Granted, i have only played the Demo naturally, and only for about 3 hours, but i did not find it so good. Me Personally think that DC is better, much more action, better sound, and just simply a better feeling. The tanks feels like jeeps, weapons like paint-gun-rifles :) But i am going on to test it again to see if it improves if i find a better server with better player, that can make all the diffirence. I ended up that day playing Forgotten Hope all day instead, great mod btw :D NOW, onto the real subject :) The WW2 crowd is far bigger then modern-warfare crowd, so that speaks for the Forgotten hope Mod, but then again you have competition from.. i think it is 4 other mods, D-Day, Das reich, and two more i do nto remember the name of. So i hope as a previous thread stated, that the FH can release a "Demo-mod" fairly early to get the upper-hand. Forgotten Hope feels very realistic, for some it is a nuisance for they cannot play around like Rambo anymore, for some it is loads of fun (me included). I love it that Forgotten Hope did not buy into the whole Crosshair phenomenom that BF2 and other mods has fallen into, naturally it should be on some weapons, but to have a "Sniper-sight" on a Machinegun well, does not feel very real :) So i hope that prevails. As i see it, the major benefit from BF2 is the Squad System, Leader system, basicly all that. Now even if you do not have programs like Ventrilo, Teamspeak, etc, you can speak to others "Watch out, top floor, two Yanks went in there", etc, that would add vastly to the feel of the game. Weaponry, there i hope that the feeling of FH on BF42 prevails, that nice echoeing sound of the Mauser when one fires, it is just beutifull :D And i hope to hear roaring engines of Tigers as well. However, there are concerns as well, first of all, would not the new BF2 involve the FH team getting new people skilled in something else ? I mean, there is quite a diffirence from doing animation of a tank moving his turret around, and the "raggdoll" effect. And changing the animations of certain weapons, perhaps replace the medic "Revival kit", with Narcotics and bandage :) And all theese great maps Of FH either needs to be redone completely, or scrappet and new ones come along. Ive always wanted a Total Infantry level of Stalingrad, houses everywhere, and flags on top floor and such things, and then being able to to run around with a flamethrower would be nice :). Bottom line is that i am concerned that the FH feel, and the feel of many of the other mods, is replaced with the rather "plastic" feel, that i think BF2 has, atleast the times ive played the Demo. Just wanted to get it of my chest :D |
Re: Bf2 with Forgotten Hope, Concerns and Praises well, Competition in the WWI-genre isn't new to FH - look around, XWWII and BG42 were out way before Fh was, and still FH did gain the upper hand easily. As for BF2, FH has the advantage of a playerbase they don't have to gain again, and a good PR - other mods will be compared to FH, not the other way around. Plus I am sure that not every mod currently in teh works will finish a release. And should there be othe realism mods that try to deal with the same stuff FH does, why not merge or trade Coding stuff (a great concept I think, one mod gets a model and the other gets some code). |
Re: Bf2 with Forgotten Hope, Concerns and Praises I wouldn't be too concerned about the feel of FH when it moves to the BF2 engine. When compared to vanilla, even though bf2 is full arcade, it isn't as much as the original, and the FH team did a great job at moding vanilla ;) And for the other mods, they'll need a shit load of work to compete with FH, they already try to cover most fronts and armies from 1939 to 1945, so there's not much left for the others mwahahaha :beer:http://forums.filefront.com/images/smilies/pwned.gif Still, a little demo with just 2 armies and 1 or 2 maps to show what they're capable of would rock :naughty: |
Re: Bf2 with Forgotten Hope, Concerns and Praises I am safe to say that i have played almost all ww2 mods for bf1942, and i have to tell you, that i always found FH to be the nicest, but for the first couple of months, Battlegroup was the mod i loved the most. The reason is fairly simple. Battlegroup is like bf1942, with nicer graphics and same sounds. If you are good at bf1942, you are good at battlegroup, infantry battle is virtually the same, and you have much longer life-span, know several friends wh om just play battlegroup out of that purpose. Then i started to test Forgotten Hope again, and found Antwerp to be a very fun map, and then i played Charlie Section, got killed always. But then for two weeks or so ago i and a friend joined up with Ventrilo, and fought as a team, and it was like night and day, a completely diffirent game evolved. And My God i dare to say that i have never had such fun as i had that day when it comes to battlefield. Experience WW2 is a bad ripoff :D So, in my view, Battleground and Forgotten Hope are the only mods "Needed" to go to Battlefield 2. Battleground, the simplistic ww2 fighter, that is just for fun. And Forgotten Hope, the realistic and fun mod :) Il be damned if i can't go around with my Königstiger, with my best buddy on the side, Mp40, and sing, sing, Im a Sturmgrenadier, and Im Ok ! ;) |

But that is overall in BF2, so far for me, the general feel is just not there.. But i must get used to it so, i go to a gaming cafée on Wednsday, and play all day :) My own computer is on repairs :( And tomorow il be going to one of the Secret Weapons level, IRL :D Im going to Peenemünde to look at some V2 missiles :D |
Re: Bf2 with Forgotten Hope, Concerns and Praises The competition is tightening. FH no longer is the only mod ever to feature the TKS Tankette. http://warfront.bf1942files.com/modu.../wf-tksall.jpg |
Re: Bf2 with Forgotten Hope, Concerns and Praises yeah takiwa's warfront mod it looking real nice! i especialy like the fact that they are making the polish campaign and the moddels are amazingly detailed. |
Re: Bf2 with Forgotten Hope, Concerns and Praises The BF2 demo is great in many areas. It does confirm my original speculation about the game. The squad features are great and while VOIP screws up ventrilo, the sound quality is much better then CSS. The commander adds a new level to the game for teamwork and gameplay. What did disapoint me is the SDK for BF2 still won't be released until the game is out. HL2 had an SDK released several months before the game. There are going to be plenty of competing mods out for BF2. SO I have come to the conclusion that I will need a bigger harddrive, faster connection, a new computer and to support the FH team anyway I can. |
Re: Bf2 with Forgotten Hope, Concerns and Praises My only personal fear is actually getting most of the current content into BF2's engine. I mean, some of the stuff needs bump-mapping, but to my knowledge BF2 has a completely new interface modification-wise. I'm also concerned that what we regard as great, top quality models now will look poor in contrast when ported over to BF2. I have noticed that even on DiCE's plain and standard models and skins, they are fairly more detailed than Forgotten Hope's. Just check out the M1A2 on graphics and lighting/textures set on high to see what I'm talking about We're in good hands though, the Dev team are extremely tallented and reliable. They know what they're doing all too well. I mean, I still cant thank them enough for doing such a good job on the new Shermans...and well, my signature and avatar shows how much praise I've given to the new Italian content. |

Hope we are not going to see MC/BG42/XWW2 style fights again, that would be a shame. |
