can it be done? thinking realistic penetration in FH2, with BF2s ability to model rifle bullets going through tin and wood can the same feature be modeled for tank shells and tank armour. i think you know where im getting at ;) |
Re: can it be done? Strawberry jelly ? Well, sounds interesting. Btw anyone else been shot out of their helicopter ? |
Re: can it be done? No, but I hate it when you are trying to steal a Spit on Breakthrough from the Brits and your shooting your pistol through the cockpit glass, and I mean it can't be that bulletproof can it? |
Re: can it be done? It's probably not coded intentionally, but in your case, it's 1944, planes did have protective cockpit glass by then, and you're firing a 9mm pistol. So the results seem realistic to me :D |

Re: can it be done? I want to know if angle can be calculated into the damage. Anyone snooped through the con's yet? |
Re: can it be done? I think i know what this guy is talking about. Working Anti tank rifles for instance, that actually penetrate the armour and kill the crew, stuff like that. |

Re: can it be done? im talking if the shell can penetrate it can penetrate. if it cant it cant. simple as that. no damage. no more 38ts takeing on CharBs also ATR rifles to snipe the crew out of tanks. |
Re: can it be done? Its POSSIBLE, but its hard work. You'd have to place the players in the model at exact spots. Then there's the issue of "I just shot the loader's head off.. but there's only one guy in the tank so what happens? Does he die? That's too easy.." As for BF2, I've never been shot out of a vehicle, but all I use is hellicopters. The tank shells are woefully weak - hitting a DPV with a 125mm HEAT shell causes it to smoke slightly. |
Re: can it be done? This might work, make it so that when a tank is hit with an AT rifle, an the bullet can penetrate, then have the guy driving the tank lose some health. I know this is possible, as when you drive a vehicle under water in FH, both the vehicle and you lose health. Also, I agree that it should either penetrate or not, XWW2 style. I get pissed when my Char or Souma gets hit in the front by the 38t or Stug3B, and loses health, instead of the shell just bouncing off. Meanwhile, my 47mm does like half damage to the 38t, when it should blow the damn turret off it. |
Re: can it be done? You can make it so that there is a certain amount of armor "behind" the original armor. This way the armor cannot be pierced by say a BARs bullets, but can be pierced by a Boyes. I don't really understand it myself with my weak knowledge of coding and skinning and so on. Heck I'm almost a complete newb to computers, I just started like 4 years ago..... |
Re: can it be done? Well, of course, the good ol' Ha Go should be able to be knocked out by the "Poor Man's AT Gun", ie, the BAR. Hell, a Garend or an Enfield should knock it out. Even a knife could, as the kinfe could jam the turret ring. I know some accounts where american troops just hid in a ditch, and when a Jap tank came by, they jumped out and pushed it over. |

The side cockpit glass is just plexiglass or lexan and should have been able to be penetrated by the slug and the side of the fuselage is aluminum sheet so its not bulletproof either. The seatback is mostly to protect from rear quadrant bullet strikes. |

Re: can it be done? I know XWW2 is doing the BAR thing, and maybe the Garend.:D |
Re: can it be done? LOL pushed it over lmfao. That's too funny! Imagine the looks on the Japanese faces. After 6 months of armor school, they finally get to the front and get PUSHED OVER by a bunch of Americans. |
Re: can it be done? lol japs equipment is anyway so weak... |
Re: can it be done? I know, make the armor o the Ha-Go like glass on jeeps and trucks. Then you could shoot through it and kill the guys niside. Same problem, but you can see that the game engine PUTS you in a spot. thats y whne you press F10 the camera is slightly to the right or left. Or, in the case of planes, the center, sice you are in the center. I think on the Tiger its easiest to see this, but youll see what I mean when you do. |

Re: can it be done? oh yea i remember that. that was a nasty thing with getting all those .5 updates i think the last was .5e |
Re: can it be done? IRL, how many bullets would it take with a B.A.R. to disable/destroy it. I guess one well placed shot could kill the driver, but like.. generally. |
Re: can it be done? Yeah, it was just like any AT rifle, send a spray at something the size of a Hago, you are probably going to kill or injure somebody in there. I know one Ha-Go was disabled by a .303 bullet hitting the drive axle and snapping it. |
Re: can it be done? what? Is all this correct? Ha-Go disabled by a .303 bullet? Ha-Go tipped over by some US soldiers? Sources? |
Re: can it be done? I remember we had a thread eariler on this, and one guy brought in the pushing sources. As for the bullets, I have read it in several books. Just look at the penetration power of the rounds, 8mm of metal is not going to stop a .303 or a .30. |
Re: can it be done? remember the thread title? So I can search for it. BTW: Isnt it time to change your sig? He has changed, you know! ;) |
Re: can it be done? Yeah...I gotta get a new sig picture sometime...but I am so lazy...I needa get someone to make it for me. |
Re: can it be done? I think it could be done. The BF2 engine does support bullet penetration to a limited extent. What I don't know is how far this extent is. It might only allow it on static objects, in which case we won't be able to use it on tanks. It also might only alow it ont certain types of weapons, ie small arms fire. This would mean that you can shoot through walls with a tank gun. I'll have to experiment with the physics when I get the game, but the bullet penetration does give more options for realism. |
