Artillery

Can someone point me to an artillery instruction page or somesuch? I understand the basic principals, but I'm having trouble using the big guns effectively.

I line the arrow up on the crosshairs, adjust my little deflection and elevation markers to what I think is in the ballpark, and then when I fire the view jumps wildly and oh-so-slowly returns. I have yet to see any of my rounds impact unless the target is in visual range.
Seems I should be able to "walk em' in", but I'm having no luck.

Re: Artillery

That is why after almost 2 yrs of battlefield I still suck at artillery other than it being direct fire. :D

Re: Artillery

Keep in mind the velocity of the gun you are using. The straightest one is the 88 (other than on Foy), I believe the one with the highest arc is the American 105. The camera points in the direction of your round, so it seems you are shooting too high up.

An excelent map to practice on is Charlie Sector, you have nebels and built in artillery guns. Make sure you have some spotters.

Re: Artillery

its tuff to use. I could never get the total hang of it. Just keep trying until your close, then slowly tweak the settings. it takes me like 10 shots to just get INTO the enemy territory

the highest arc is the Mortar...and the FHDefgun150mm....don't know if it has changed name though

Re: Artillery

I love using the artillery if someone would just give me a decent spot. The big guns that have real flat trajectories are the most difficult to hit something with unless you can see the target for your self. The mortars and howitzers in this mod rock.

Re: Artillery

Beast of War (FH forum member) once made a superb arty guide. It's a shame I can't find a link of it anymore. So you have to do with this guide made by Teddy ''1313-Evil_Homer'' Pierson:

Katusha's are great for this, you have 7 rounds to home in with before a rather quick reload. Stand near an ammo crate and let death fall from the sky till some-one decides to stop you.!

Re: Artillery

I often wondered how people rate the importance of arty in this game, I don't play on-line much and was thinking about getting into the arty and AA area, being as most of the tanks and planes are always used, and there better with them then I would be,just did not want a bunch of people pissed off becuse I use the arty more them grabbing flags, what do you all think?

Re: Artillery

If used correctly it can completely change the outcome of the game or end up ruining the game through base rape.
