MG-42 Sound Poll

7 Attachment(s)
Those that watched over the thread "New Sounds for Forgotten Hope" may have seen that the MG42 has been discussed 3 times there without a clear conclusion.

So here are 6 MG-42 sounds (all are 1 burst/3 shots) and I hope 1 of them will like any of u.
You Can vote for the individual versions and the Sound with the most votes will get to Forgotten Hope 0.7

Here a short description of the Sounds:
  • V.1 and V.2 have the same bassis as you might notice that they aren't very different, V.2 has a bit more bass that's all.
  • For V.3,V.4 and V.5 I used to make them as similar to the COD MG42 as possible, they are also the most "real sound" accurate of all. The difference of the Versions are also more or less bass.
  • V.6,V.7 these are my favorites also more or less bass.
If you liked one that has been posted in the sound thread but isn't hear say it with a post.

Re: MG-42 Sound Poll

I voted for the 5th one. Seems most familiar from movies to me.

If you're getting all sorts of weird charcters trying to open these files, just right click, and 'save as' and make sure you save as *.wav, not as *.wav.htm.

I like V4, it seems the best for me....:)

Re: MG-42 Sound Poll

I voted 5 too, although I think 6 sounds nice too.

Re: MG-42 Sound Poll

3,4, and 5 are the only ones with a realistic rate of fire. The othes sounds like M2s or M1919s. I like 5.

Re: MG-42 Sound Poll

The 5th sound seems to have bit more bass. The guns needs more bass in the sounds. The last two aren't bad, but don't quite have to same rate of fire and wouldn't quite have the same atmosphere as the 5th sound.

Gauntlet April 21st, 2005 09:32 AM

Re: MG-42 Sound Poll

none of them. I want the FH realism MG42 sound. Sorry, Cap.Miller (Shouldnt it be Cpt.Miller?http://forums.filefront.com/images/s.../confusedx.gif )

 Yesterday someone said the MG42 shouldn't have much bass.
And Gauntled it shouldn't be Cpt or cap or cpn.
It can be what I want and not what the army has..
And you should vote for the one you like the most.
Because one of em will be in FH not the FHR sound.
Except if you use FHR anyway...

Re: MG-42 Sound Poll

I liked the 4th and 5th ones the best, they best represented the correct rate of fire. However one thing that I may be mistaken about, ingame the MG42 doesn't seem to fire at the correct RPM, as in the amount of bullets that are fired. Seems a lot slower than it should be.

But nice job on all these sounds Cap.

Re: MG-42 Sound Poll

6 & 7 are too bassy imo, 4-5 are close to one another and sound better.

Re: MG-42 Sound Poll

i dont no anything about sounds so I put v.7 because it sounded the most clear and real to me, but i dont know shit about rate of fire :S

Re: MG-42 Sound Poll

I chose 4 cause it seemed to represent the speed/power of the mg 42 the best

Re: MG-42 Sound Poll

v.5 is the most realistic sounding one. Its 1200 RPM, you can't have it rat-tat-tatting. It could use some leadoff so it isn't so abrupt when you stop firing though. Some echo or shell noises or something.

What he said. (We're agreeing way too much.)

Errr.. I'm using Firefox and only getting the option to save those files as a HTML page - Help?

Re: MG-42 Sound Poll

none sound right to me, should sound like "burp" when shot in bursts.
they had a saw sound almost, very nasty sounding actually.
the one from flashpoint (addon) sounded very authentic, and may even be an actual recording. i have this sound in case your interested?

I'm in FF also. Paint the file and hit "save as" - when the screen comes up asking you what to call it and where to put it, just delete ".htm" or whatever exctension there is after "wav" or "wmv". Then find out if you can "open" in the dl manager, or if not, dub click or "play" from whervever you put the file (desktop is easiest), or do an "open with" and choose an appropriate sound/music program if your prefs aren't set to auto do wavs or wmvs.

v 3, 4 , or 5 i cant decide

Flyboy1942 April 22nd, 2005 12:22 AM

Re: MG-42 Sound Poll

Maybe v.7 could be used as the .50 caliber sound? It sounds pretty good. As for the mg42, from what I've read about the rate of fire, it seems v5 is the best.

Kahju April 22nd, 2005 01:34 AM

Re: MG-42 Sound Poll

More close to real life version, more better. V5 for me specially if it has nice after-ring.

Sound techs should visit http://198.144.2.125/MG42/Machinenge...-%20Videos.htm to see how many of FH weapons sound IRL.

Re: MG-42 Sound Poll

I have fired MG42 during my military service. All I have to say is...listen to the XWWII version, it's as accurat it can be. And 3,4 or 5 are the ones that sound perhaps the most realistic, the rest doesn't even come close to a realistic MG42 sound.

vesseli April 22nd, 2005 04:42 AM

Re: MG-42 Sound Poll

V.5 definitely

Cap.Miller April 22nd, 2005 05:14 AM

Re: MG-42 Sound Poll

Looks like V.5 will win :uhm:
However the Poll will stay another 19 days so I'm shure anyone that is interested in a new MG42 sound can vote.

And those that cannot listen to these sounds please PM me.

And about the Operation Flashpoint sound Real-BadSeed,
I won't make another MG-42 sound as I said in this thread already.
I think any of these sounds sound good and it looks like 95% are happy with 1 of them. I have to make also other sounds and can't stick on the Mg42.
And alltough I can't take the sound and just put it in for FH, but I have to make it on my own just similar as possible and that takes to much time because I already spend way to much on the Mg42.

So that's all have a look at the sound thread, there are new rifle sounds where COD's sound also served as model. And also a new Shermanfire sound together with 2 versions of the reload sound that might be used for all tanks.

KrautCommander April 22nd, 2005 05:26 AM

Re: MG-42 Sound Poll

...maybe 4 or 5 with slightly more bass but that rate of fire. the postet 4 and 5 don't sound mean enough. :naughty:

I never fired a real MG42, I can just compare to the german MG3, fired it enough to know it's sound - and it's nearly the same weapon as the MG42 - just some minor changes to the breech block, bipod and barrel.

Real-BadSeed April 22nd, 2005 10:07 AM

Re: MG-42 Sound Poll

well this is an actual recording, so you can see the difference.

Sgt. Krotchrot April 22nd, 2005 12:40 PM

Re: MG-42 Sound Poll

v.5, although the echo at the end of Real-BadSeeds wav. was very nice.

Real-BadSeed April 22nd, 2005 12:52 PM

Re: MG-42 Sound Poll

its not mine,i never made it.
it says in the readme, that its an actual recording of a real mg42 firing.
dont know if thats true, but thats what it says.
i got it from, an addon for flashpoint.
and i thought cap.miller could use it as a reference, for making his mg42 sound.

Cap.Miller April 22nd, 2005 03:07 PM

Re: MG-42 Sound Poll

As said, one of the posted sounds will be used and none other made..
If you want that I make a new Mg42 sound you will have the best, perfect Mg42 sound in Fh 0.7 but probably not much more other new sounds...
I think V.3,V.4,V.5 are similar enough to it.
And about the echo for the MG42, I think it's not possible due coding to give the Mg-42 an echo..at least I've been told so.
Some weapons can have an echo others not, that's because if you would fire an Mg42 ingame it will just end the sound with the echo instead of repeating the sound when you fire more shots than 1.

And you guys,
what do you think about using the V.6,V.7 sound for the 50.Cal ?
It has the right RPM for it (for the ingame one).
Maybe I'll make a Poll for the 50.Cal too cause it's also a very famous sound..

Big Lebowski April 22nd, 2005 03:39 PM

Re: MG-42 Sound Poll

i belive it's possible to add an echo sound, think theres been one in early'r versions?
but you have to mess with the soundscrip't to get it to work..

Zehnder April 22nd, 2005 03:57 PM

Re: MG-42 Sound Poll

Everybody who wants more bass in the guns has never fired a real one.

What Hollywood tells you a gun sounds like is not how a gun usually sounds.

Muskets fired with a crack. Guns fire with a pop. Cannons fire with bass and a crack, and if you want the bass only you should stand half a mile away.

I'd go for version 5 though, but I think that XWW2 has it right. I'd also agree that the sound needs more echo and some shells falling would be nice too as ear candy.

Cap.Miller April 22nd, 2005 06:04 PM

Re: MG-42 Sound Poll

Making it able for the MG42 to have an echo isn't my job :D
And I don't think that you hear shells falling when you fire a Mg-42...
But if some coder makes it able to have an echo, I can put shell falling into the echo..

Thats probarly true since the firing is realy load compared to the shells falling. Maybe you can add it so that you can hear the shells falling when you stopp shooting? http://forums.filefront.com/images/s.../confusedx.gif you know, the last couple of shells.

Cap.Miller April 23rd, 2005 03:05 AM

Re: MG-42 Sound Poll

I have 125ms time for the Mg-42 shoot so it's unpossible to add shell falling to it.
However if the code allows an echo I can make one with shell falling..

what about using the one Real-BadSeed posted if he refines it to the proper length (I know, someone always just wants wants something a little bit different - but if it isn't much/no extra work for you... ?) i think it's the authentic sound of an MG42/MG3 - sounds like i know it http://forums.filefront.com/images/smilies/pleased.gif
