Flak Cannon?

I was actually pretty good with both the Bofors and the Flak 88 in 0.65. In 0.66, though, I sense something has changed. Either the aim is now different, the flak shells do less damage in terms of where they explode, or the range is screwy, but for some reason, using the exact same tactics, it's damn near impossible to hit with them now. I'm actually better with the crappy German flak gun (the small one) than with any other flak cannon in the game now. It used to be the other way around. Like I said, I think something (and I don't know what) changed from 0.65 to 0.66.

okay for a better explanation...

I tried a few times and I know the thing that the shells dont hit directly (that you need to predict aim) and I was able to shoot plaines down with AT shells plenty of times, then I tried with the AA shells and it was f*****g impossible... And I was trying to kill infantry with the AA also and they didnt die even if the crosshair showed it hitted :?
Can someone confirm this as a bug or do the weed I smoked some days ago still effect me :S

The Flak88 and Bofors both lack splash damage to planes. You have to get a direct hit.
The devs haven't commented on why, but I think its like this:

The Flak is pretty deadly to infantry. Both 88 and Bofors40mm flak are great anti infantry guns. If you make it do splash damage against planes, though, it will likely just kill the pilot and leave the plane only slightly damaged because of the splash.

If its NOT like this, then it needs more splash against aircraft. I brought this up several times in the bug forums in previous betas.

I liked it the best the way it was before .65 where the flak explodes when near a plane. Oh and the way it is atm the ostwind is only usefull for killing light vehicles or infantry, shooting planes it useless although I have once killed a plane but that was because I shot it and soon after it crashed into the ground while doing a loop.

88mm in AA mode works *beautifully* against the Jun Horde.. I mean, the British infantry attack in (forget the map name - Gazala? El Alamein? One of 'em, anyway). Using the 88 mounted at the edge of the German base/spawn, I was whacking the armour first, then switching to AA and slaughtering infantry.. airburst would kill 3-5 troops at a time easy, albeit without the cool "squirming-in-flight" effect of a ground hit.

I managed to down that sight-seeing plane once.. it was so cool, th guy inside died and stuff.. truely awsome.

Then a p51 came out of nowhere and tossed a nuke right into my flank.

Yeah, I think they had splash damage in 0.65, and removed it for 0.66, which is just plain goofy. For god's sake, they're FLAK cannons. That means they explode and send FLAK everywhere. Perfect for hitting soft targets or lightly armored ones like planes and light vehicles. There is now no puff of Flak, so your Bofors is basically just a faster firing version of the Flak36 that the Germans have. A bad change, and likely an oversight that made it through beta. Like the knee mortars and StugIII with crappy bushes.

True flak AA is very good at taking out infantry, keep in mind the shell does not land at the crosshairs at close range.

Didn't say anything about being up close and firing at a target.

FLAK means FLugAbwehrKanone ... thats anti-air-canon in english
its not the name for what it sends
