Climbing again! Most tanks really need more climbing ability, a sherman cant get up a 45 degree slope ??? i know some this related problems that deal wiht its weight, but only the stug and churchill and climb really good. but i think that other tanks could use this too. :feedback: |
Re: Climbing again! Eh, it has issues with the fact that you have only one gear in FH. IRL, a tank would pop it into first to squeeze torque out of the engine so it could climb. In FH, you are always set to go as fast as possible. |
Re: Climbing again! Tanks can climb pretty well since they have very powerfull engines and with low gear that power is even multiplied a few times. The tanks tracks have large surface contact with the ground so excellent traction aswell. But they also have great weight wich works against them, it wants to drag them down again. In general the ligher a tank is the better it can climb. I don't think tanks can climb 45 degrees, regardless what ground type. On some websites it is mentioned with vehicle details. What i do know is Panther's, Tigers, TigerII and the rest of the German "zoo" were all pretty heavy tanks and would not have fared too well at climbing sharp angle slopes. But that is not the same as some tanks in FH that used to fail climbing a modest gentle hill allready, could not get out of bombcraters anymore or get stuck in a bump in the road ( really happened with previous versions M10 ) |
Re: Climbing again! I think that the height of tank - length of tank affects the way it can climb up a hill. Take a churchill for instance: it was quite low profile (like most British tanks) and was quite long, it could climb up very steep hills and was designed to do this as it was an infantry tank. Look at a sherman, it's pretty short in length and very high for a tank of it's size. At least that what i think :D |
Re: Climbing again! Well, I think that tanks climb too easily. I was toying with map editor and I made a steep hill - the soldiers could barely climb it, the jeeps like willy didn't have a chance to seize it, but shermans got to the top without any problem :/ Of course they didn't move fast, but still their performance was good compared to soldiers climbing ability |
