Re: December 19th News Update! Our mortars are now simmilar to BF1918's mortars. The camera view is above the player, and gives a great field of view (you can also hide behind rocks or treches and still fire). They have a maximum range of the view distance of most maps (on iwo jima, i can shoot from the top of the mountain, to the next flag) and a minimum range of about 20 feet in front of the mortar. They have artillery spot for secondary fire like all other artillery, but it's not as useful because they arnt as long ranged, and you can usually see your targets. Depending on the range, the shells take anywhere from 2 to 5 seconds to hit, so hitting moving infantry takes a couple shells to lead the target. Japs have the advantage on iwo because they control the island. Dont tell me 3 mortars and a defgun fireing down from a mountain isnt an advantage. |
Re: December 19th News Update! Yes but Mcgibs don't tell me that the japs wont be able to lift there heads above the ground when there pinned down by naval fire isn't an advantage :D |
Re: December 19th News Update! you ever tried it hit the top of the mountain with naval fire? Its 5 times higher then the friggin boat. Iwo jima plays pretty much as it it plays in .65, which is very balanced. |
Re: December 19th News Update! Good to hear about the mortars. Say on a map like Goodwood or Bulge, is it easy to use them against tanks? it'd be good to see them land right on top of them seeing as the armour is weakest there. |

Re: December 19th News Update! Right, ok. Well lets hope I get lucky. I've always wanted to use mortars effectively in BF1942 ever since I watched Band of Brothers. |
Re: December 19th News Update! Is there a huge volcanic explosion once the flamethrower tank explode? And is there any more tanks with flamethrowers? |
Re: December 19th News Update! anyone know how the map contest works? I mean the real details. Are the 7 semi-finalists competeing for a single top slot but at the same time those 7 will be in the fanpack regardless of who wins or is there some other plan for the 7? I sympathize with all those who didn't make it. Out of the 4 maps I submitted only 1 was chosen. Now I'm waiting to see exactly what's going on before I independently publish the "unchosen" maps. I know not having official FH support means getting far fewer downloads but I built the maps to see them played and have players participate in the battlefields I've created. Personally I couldn't give a rat's ass if I won or lost. That was never my point and having been in several map contests (between MOHAA and BF1942) I'm really over the whole spirit of competition and just want to enjoy playing on the worlds I've created with other BF/FH fans. As for the 2 extra weeks of tweaking... I guess I'll get some good nap time out of it. Out of all the updates I've seen for .66 none really apply to me. Anyone have art classes? Did you ever have an instructor tell you this in some form... "your piece of art is done when you can neither add to nor subtract anything from it without it detracting from the whole piece". Sorry folks I have my own ideas on mapping and follow a minimalist's set of principles. Sorry I'm not more of a team player when it comes to competitions but all my maps are initially made to satisfy me, my concepts and my curiosity. Thereafter I hope other might enjoy it. In the immortal words of Ringo "I'm just happy to be here". |

But you could always improve the map with the suggestions.critique you got (I take) and I read that there is going to be a custom map part of the website soon, don't give up yet! |
