Nice update, I wasn't expecting a flamethrowing vehicle for this update. Also anxious about the fan map pack and the idea of a nice custom static. The flame effects seem of a high quality, nice work guys.

It involves a couple dozen kilos of explosives, a detonator, and a fanatical japanese soldier. (there's only 2 kits on iwo though, so dont worry about being overrun by exploding japs) XD

The flame sherman only spawns every 15 min or so on the landing craft, so once it's out, it's out for a while. Japanese MG and mortar positions are very nasty to american infantry. (yes mortars. they kick ass now. with a bit of practice and fire adjusting, you can pin down a position single handedly from across the map. you can find them on most maps)

Nice update, the flame tank looks acpecially interesting! the flames actually look good, far better than any other mods attempt at doing a flame tank anyway (no dissrespect to other mods) :)

Great news! I've been looking forward to mortars receiving more of a use, as they
were used frequently in real war. Can't wait to test them out. :)

LMAO. Kamikaze expackers like myself have been waiting ever since the day BF1942 came out for the time when we would be able to trigger the expacks without laying them down first.....this will be excellently evil.

Does this also mean mortars can use indirect fire (via the Forward Artillery Observer)

Re: December 19th News Update!

well... if japs have mortars, so do americans.. so this is not any kind of advantage for japs...

but exp-japs are interesting

any sign of relase date for this BUG-FIX? i ask because i dont care for new content at all, because i dont play anymore, because of few nasty and stupid bugs concerning coop play

whis was meant as a bugfix, and i can see now that it started growing new content, new content and new content... how many months? half year? nobody will be there if it is going again the .61 road

sorry for rant

very nice hope that this is not a new 0.65 type of patch ...

R4DG aka Run 4 Da Gun December 20th, 2004 12:40 AM

Re: December 19th News Update!

I think that the devs want to slow down the FH war machine and prepare the patch AND prepare to port to BF2. They don't want to do everything now and have to risk deleting it for BF2.

MAYBE thats why we barely have any new static buildings; scaling of the vechicles and bayonets.

But aside from that; Great update, I love the oil station Lobo.

Excellent update, and people complaining about this aint being a bugfix anymore, you really think they started working on all of this after 0.65 ? Don't make me laugh, the stuff you can see now probably was finished for 95% when 0.65 came out, so it's just 'late 0.65' stuff.
Be happy: you get bugfixes and new (late) content.

That Sherman POA looks impressive, nice updated skin on the piat and gl to the winners of the contest AND the non-winners (you're not losers:)) hope you can upgrade your maps for another round (I was looking forward to the one with Scheldt in the name ;))

Have fun

Well - you should have an email already. Otherwise try the one you send your map to? And get busy - 2 weeks to improve your map using current beta!!

Read the news before complaining! It's all in... Just read and not only watch the images.... :deal:

a.) December 2004 - we got only 2 weeks left in december?
b.) Most of the content was in FH 0.65 already but not used - so we are not creating stuff and stuff! This is majorly a fix...

We reserve the right to turn down any request that we consider unsuitable or unreasonable, but we do not expect that there will be any problem, as long as the winner does not go off the deep end.

Great updates with Flamethrowers and all! :D

But the Pavlov map someone suggested wouldnt be that great, IMO. Remember the PPSh-41? Its still über (dont get me wrong, it should be über) compered with the MP40. This would just be a big rape...

Anyway, keep up the good work devs!

PS: Will the Mortar have the secondary fire mode as the "big" artillery-pieces have?

PPS: I CANT WAIT FOR THE FLAMMPANZER III! Every since I saw a picture of one in a WW2 book I have, I felt in love with it :P !

Re: December 19th News Update!

Our mortars are now simmilar to BF1918's mortars. The camera view is above the player, and gives a great field of view (you can also hide behind rocks or treches and still fire). They have a maximum range of the view distance of most maps (on iwo jima, i can shoot from the top of the mountain, to the next flag) and a minimum range of about 20 feet in front of the mortar. They have artillery spot for secondary fire like all other artillery, but it's not as useful because they arnt as long ranged, and you can usually see your targets. Depending on the range, the shells take anywhere from 2 to 5 seconds to hit, so hitting moving infantry takes a couple shells to lead the target.

Japs have the advantage on iwo because they control the island. Dont tell me 3 mortars and a defgun fireing down from a mountain isnt an advantage.

Al Capone December 20th, 2004 09:09 AM

Re: December 19th News Update!

Yes but Mcgibs don't tell me that the japs wont be able to lift there heads above the ground when there pinned down by naval fire isn't an advantage :D

McGibs December 20th, 2004 09:20 AM

Re: December 19th News Update!

you ever tried it hit the top of the mountain with naval fire? Its 5 times higher then the friggin boat.

Iwo jima plays pretty much as it it plays in .65, which is very balanced.

Good to hear about the mortars. Say on a map like Goodwood or Bulge, is it easy to use them against tanks? it'd be good to see them land right on top of them seeing as the armour is weakest there.

You have to hit them dead on, which is really hard to do, especially if the tank is moving. Theyr best for taking out infantry, or barraging flags.

Re: December 19th News Update!

anyone know how the map contest works? I mean the real details. Are the 7 semi-finalists competeing for a single top slot but at the same time those 7 will be in the fanpack regardless of who wins or is there some other plan for the 7?

I sympathize with all those who didn't make it. Out of the 4 maps I submitted only 1 was chosen. Now I'm waiting to see exactly what's going on before I independently publish the "unchosen" maps. I know not having official FH support means getting far fewer downloads but I built the maps to see them played and have players participate in the battlefields I've created. Personally I couldn't give a rat's ass if I won or lost. That was never my point and having been in several map contests (between MOHAA and BF1942) I'm really over the whole spirit of competition and just want to enjoy playing on the worlds I've created with other BF/FH fans.

As for the 2 extra weeks of tweaking... I guess I'll get some good nap time out of it. Out of all the updates I've seen for .66 none really apply to me.

Anyone have art classes? Did you ever have an instructor tell you this in some form... "your piece of art is done when you can neither add to nor subtract anything from it without it detracting from the whole piece". Sorry folks I have my own ideas on mapping and follow a minimalist's set of principles. Sorry I'm not more of a team player when it comes to competitions but all my maps are initially made to satisfy me, my concepts and my curiosity. Thereafter I hope other might enjoy it.

In the immortal words of Ringo "I'm just happy to be here".

Perhaps the mappers who didn't make the second round can improve their maps and then release them together in a second fan map pack. FH backed or not, I think it would still make a good download.

Whoa! Nice update... but the comment on the Panzer III is upsetting. It made me think of two options:
1) The FH team are sick to death of it and will never add one to spite us
2) They are already making it but it will be the greatest model of all time and therefore take forever to make

2, please!
