THE... World War Map Timeline..

Here is the Map list in chronological order as best as I could arrange it. This list includes all official BF 1942 maps including expansions, all maps from .65 of FH, and a few choice select custom maps, what I would consider some of the best out there, especially in respect to historical background, and/or custom content. Maps in Italics show an "estimate" as to the placement of that map in the timeline as it may relate to an event that happened on that date, and/or it shares many similiarities as well. I've also added to some of the "estimate" maps as to what they could be, if the creator would like to add a touch of realism in that sense if it wasn't what the creator had in mind already. I'd also like to suggest, if it hasn't been mentioned already a few key events for those who do make the maps. Leyte Gulf, a new Gazala (Operation Venezia) or (Cauldron) a FH version of the Maginot Line [Maybe even add some of the crappy Italian tanks) Operation Red (the Battle of France), Cherbourg (Operation Cobra) Ruhr Pocket, Malta, Russian Summer Offensive(Operation Bagration), Manila, Marshall Islands That's all for now...Enjoy..

1939:
FH Fall Weiss – September 1st

1940:
Invasion of Norway – April 9th

Battle of Britain – July 10th

1941:
Raid on Agheila – March 24th

Ural Foothills – May 8th
Russian Country – May 18th

FH Tarawa – November 20th
FH Makin – November 20th
Rabaul – December 15th
FH Valirisk – December 31st (I could find no such city called Valirisk, or event. The map traits however could be Zhitomir, since this city was traded back n' forth during the late fall - winter months of 1943)

wow, nice effort. But i think Alpenfestung is a map based on a theoretical german strategy to hold up in the bavarian alps with SS members.

yea alpen is fictional, might want to fix that. Otherwise great job, Ill have to check out some of those fan maps.

EDIT: ah ok some of those fan maps are fictional too. Might want to mark those as better as some ppl hate fictional maps getting confused with ones based of rl events.

It is in Italics.. Po Valley is in the Bavarian Alps and there was a battle on that date shown.

Nice job, although one thing, i think bombing the reich has to be a bit later than 1940 as AFAIK the lancaster wasn't around in 1940, i might be wrong. I was thinking it'd be more like 1942.

Re: THE... World War Map Timeline..

From what I could tell, there are only a couple of the maps you posted that are worth keeping, one of them is Leningrad.

Most of them look like really bad Vanilla maps. No hope for them. It's awesome to have all these battle references though. I think my next project might be a Brecourt Manor map.

Lancaster ? What do you think about the FW190's in that map ? ;)

I meant better, as in more easy to tell. The italics are ok but most people aren't go to read through the whole intro, also that text is not real clear in its meaning. There's a difference between a map that could be similair to a real life event but not quite, and one similair but thats intended as fictional, such as alpen.. In the end its the posters decscion and most people know anyway what maps are fictional so its not a big deal.

Anyway which of these fan maps work with .65 and are good enough to bother downloading?

Ummm... do you think Supercharge should be before El Alamein, because on the loading screen for Supercharge there is a sign pointing to El Alamein :)

Re: THE... World War Map Timeline..

Bombing the Reich is 1943 (because it says it). Of course the Lancaster, FW190 and the Bf109G are only dead give aways but then again the Spitfire and Hurricane are 1939/40 aircraft.

DICE maps are generic, any resemblance to actual battles is pure coincidence and luck.

EverclearBoy October 23rd, 2004 11:53 AM

Re: THE... World War Map Timeline..

Bombing the Reich involves crossing a large channel and bombing a naval industry.. Wilhemhaven & Kiel were among the 2 closest such naval towns IN germany.. And according to RAF records was attacked then, the only other time Kiel was hit was by the RAF was April 9th 1941, April 10, 1945 and May 2nd 1945 the US bombed Kiel during 1943. While Wilhelmshaven was bombed along with Kiel on July 5th 1940, with no other raids by the RAF against Wilhelmshaven. The US handled all other bombings of the town in 1943. The Lancaster was introduced late 1942, but for this to be a British bombing the Germans map.. it would favor more being one of those two towns in comparison especially taking into account its at night.the US also handled the bombings of Bremerhaven the other closest naval town.

I do not know which of the Custom maps listed play with FH, a few do show up in the map list when FH is activated. But I do not know which are ported.

Next to the better of the group maps are the recommendations.. Peleliu, Ruhr Valley, Corsica, Korsun, Tarawa, Alama, Night of Nights, St Sauver, Liberation of Nuenen & Harlingen, are the favorites.

Operation Supercharge was Montgomery's offensive in the second battle of El Alamein I believe.

yes.. Supercharge was Monty's breakout at El Alamein..

I think we should make it perfectly clear; the Map selection states Bombing the Reich-1943, the splashscreen states 1943, the aircraft seem to be from 1943 and not 1940. The question is whether the map is supposed to be a generic representation of the British Bombing raids over the third reich or a representation of a specific raid, I consider it the former.

It could be made to represent that specific raid if the correct aircraft were included and the skymap changed to day/dusk, infact it could be all three of them with only a few changes. Take some time and figure out what the basic design could be used for.

The BoB map pretty much covers what the Germans did to the British, except the bombing of civilians. BtR comes with so much more potential; commando raids with naval and air support, American day bombing, Mosquito Night Airstrikes even Naval engagements of Destroyer size of course with air support. I can see myself flying the Dak on Para missions.

Re: THE... World War Map Timeline..

hmm.. breaktrough was 27th of July 1944 you say.. interesting..
so panzerfaust 30 would be the standard issue german AT weapon, not the 100 :)
(except for an odd panzershreck or 2 lying around :)

Re: THE... World War Map Timeline..

All Bombing the Reich would need is a change of the year stated on the map. The creator must have merely picked a random year to coincide with the Lancaster then it would be the better known bombing of Kiel May 2nd 1945. And it is just an estimation for if someone wants to do the maps in soem sort of order... I look at the Map layouts/Time of year shown (i.e. Fall, Winter, Summer) And not at the vehicles featured since it is impossible for FH right now to go that indepth to vehicle detail. I would rather play a maplist in order where your not running into some Winter campaign map just after doing a Summer. This map order gives a far better impression for that time passing.

OMFG you cannot be so seriously blind to what is contained on the map that proves it is 1943 rather than your opinion. Could it be coincidence that;

The FW190 is in the markings of 9./JG2 in the Summer of 1943. The Bf109G-6 is a 1943 aircraft even though the model is a E-4. The Bf110G-4 Night fighter was introduced in 1943.

June 1943 would be its best postition in your list. I personally believe the Spitfire/Hurricane and Swordfish are only place holders for when the devs get around to replacing them. The Bristol Beaufighter IF - T.F.X and/or DH 98 Mosquito NF.II night fighter or FB.VI fighter-bomber are excellent candidates with very good reusability across multiple theaters.

Maybe if a dev would clear this matter we could move on.

EverclearBoy October 27th, 2004 05:27 PM

Re: THE... World War Map Timeline..

Again.. I stress a maps placement should not be based solely on the vehicles featured... several maps run into these problems.. historical fact remains that the bombings of those locations.. which this would have to be.. happened on those dates listed.. not 1943.. Switch it to US vs German and you have no problem then with 1943..And it certainly isnt the Ruhr Valley..

June 10th, German bombings, US by day, RAF by night begins.
June 11, 1943 The US 8th Air Force raids the German naval base at Wilhelmshaven (200 B-17s), while the RAF attacks Mόnster and Dόsseldorf.
June 12th 1943 The RAF launches a heavy raid on Bochum in the Ruhr.
June 20th, 1943 60 RAF bombers attacking the radar works at Friedrichshafen.
June 21st, 1943 The RAF launches a heavy raid on Krefeld in the Ruhr, but lose 44 aircraft.
June 24th 1943 The RAF conducts a heavy raid on Elberfeld in the Ruhr.

Being intended I'm sure as a generic map.. I'm sure the skins are just as generic in suiting the look of the map.. I wouldn't take the "skins" as a good historical reference to time...

For a timeline purpose however.. which is what I listed.. there are really only 3 dates where it would fit in.. the best of which would be the major bombings of 1940 or 1945..

Jagd October 29th, 2004 12:23 PM

Re: THE... World War Map Timeline..

Yes but you are also forgetting that the British switched to purely night bombing by 1943 leaving the Americans to pound the Reich during the day. I know early on they would do night time raids as well, but really all signs point to 1943 other than those towns which you seem to be convinced are the ones depicted in the map.
