THE... World War Map Timeline.. Here is the Map list in chronological order as best as I could arrange it. This list includes all official BF 1942 maps including expansions, all maps from .65 of FH, and a few choice select custom maps, what I would consider some of the best out there, especially in respect to historical background, and/or custom content. Maps in Italics show an "estimate" as to the placement of that map in the timeline as it may relate to an event that happened on that date, and/or it shares many similiarities as well. I've also added to some of the "estimate" maps as to what they could be, if the creator would like to add a touch of realism in that sense if it wasn't what the creator had in mind already. I'd also like to suggest, if it hasn't been mentioned already a few key events for those who do make the maps. Leyte Gulf, a new Gazala (Operation Venezia) or (Cauldron) a FH version of the Maginot Line [Maybe even add some of the crappy Italian tanks) Operation Red (the Battle of France), Cherbourg (Operation Cobra) Ruhr Pocket, Malta, Russian Summer Offensive(Operation Bagration), Manila, Marshall Islands That's all for now...Enjoy.. 1939: FH Fall Weiss September 1st 1940: Invasion of Norway April 9th Maginot Line June 16th (road to rome only) FH Bombing the Reich July 5th (Bombing of Kiel & Wilhelmshaven both naval towns) Battle of Britain July 10th 1941: Raid on Agheila March 24th FH Operation Rheinόbung May 24th FH Atlantic May 25th (Since this is after the sinking of the Hood, 2nd Carrier should be Victorious) Battle for Crete May 20th FH Crete May 20th (the cruiser "beached" must be the York) Operation Battleaxe June 15th Operation Barbarossa June 22nd King of the Hill September 14th (excellent map layout/custom content) Operation Crusader November 18th Pearl Harbor December 7th Invasion of the Philippines December 8th Wake Island December 23rd 1942: Coral Sea May 4th Ural Foothills May 8th Russian Country May 18th Gazala May 26th FH Adak (Battle of the Aleutians) June 3rd ("Dutch Harbor" or "Unalaska Island would be better suited as a title since the attack on Adak was forgone and this map features US as defenders.) Battle of Midway June 4th Operation Aberdeen June 5th Tobruk June 21st El Alamein (1st Battle of) July 1st Guadalcanal August 7th Stalingrad Front September 27th FH Stalingrad September 30th El Alamein (2nd Battle of) October 23rd FH Supercharge November 2nd Raid on Agheila November 23rd FH Desert Rose December 8th (could be the port of Bizerte) 1943: Stalingrad January 10th Leningrad January 12th (Battleships need to be moved back further, otherwise excellent) Kharkov Winter January 19th (excellent custom content) Battle of Kasserine Pass February 14th (new version NOT contest winner/built in FH physics?) Telemark February 16th Kharkov March 14th Ruhr Valley May 16th (highly impressive map design, a definite must see) Kursk July 5th Operation Husky July 9th Secret Base July 12th FH Prokhorovka July 12th FH Orel August 4th Kbely Airfield August 7th Kharkov August 23rd Operation Baytown September 3rd Salerno September 9th Corsica September 14th (needs French, excellent map design) Tarawa November 20th (custom, excellent map design, plenty of fun) FH Tarawa November 20th FH Makin November 20th Rabaul December 15th FH Valirisk December 31st (I could find no such city called Valirisk, or event. The map traits however could be Zhitomir, since this city was traded back n' forth during the late fall - winter months of 1943) 1944: Tundra January 5th Santo Croce January 15th Battle of Anzio January 22nd Korsun January 27th (excellent layout/custom content) FH The Storm January 28th (Among many choices, it could possibly be Cherkassy) Monte Cassino February 15th Truk Islands February 16th Dam Buster February 18th (excellent layout/custom content) Battle for Rome May 26th The Night of Nights June 5th (excellent atmosphere/C-47 featured/SW not needed) Normandy June 5th (road to rome only) Omaha Beach June 6th FH Omaha Beach-Charlie Sector June 6th FH Gold Beach June 6th Utah Beach (Brecourt Manor) June 6th (Artillery Dream) Sword Beach June 6th (needs British Army) Juno Beach June 6th (needs Canadian Army) Carentan June 12th Alamo June 13th (excellent map layout/based on Saving Private Ryan) Saipan June 15th Saint Sauver June 16th (excellent/map contest winner, just needs lighting work) FH Karelia June 21st Fish River(Berzina) June 28th Bocage June 29th Mimoyecques July 6th South of Caen July 8th (needs Canadian Army) St. Lo July 9th FH Operation Goodwood July 18th Liberation of Caen July 19th Battle for Guam July 21st Tinian Island July 24th (few collision errors above trees, otherwise good) FH Breakthrough July 27th Mortain August 7th South of Caen August 8th Peenemuende August 27th Gothic Line September 10th Battle of Hurtgen Forest September 13th Nancy September 14th Peleliu September 15th (By far the best Custom map I have seen, excellent map design/custom content/looks like real location) Operation Market Garden September 17th FH Arnhem September 21st Liberation of Nuenen September 18th (excellent design/new version NOT contest winner) FH Sector 318 - October 8th (Can't find anything on a "Sector 318" map suggests fall, 1944 which means possibly Aachen) Vercors Mountain October 23rd Battle of the Bulge December 16th Battle for Bastogne December 22nd 1945: FH Foy January 13th Iwo Jima February 19th Hellendoorn March 6th Hell in the Philippines March 15th Bridge of Remagen March 17th Vegrandis March 24th Operation Widgeon March 24th (Secret Weapons only) FH Black Knight March 28th (shares traits of events near Koblenz or Elbe) FH Zielona Gora March 31st (Seems to be Ratibor in Upper Silesia, I am pretty sure the region "Zielona Gora" was known as Silesia during the war though not positive) Battle for Okinawa April 1st (an ok map-needs something creative, no other decent Okinawa's I've seen yet) FH Alpenfestung (Po Valley) April 9th (translated "Alpine Fortress" Po Valley was a location of a major battle in the Alpines late in the war) Essen April 11th Liberation of Harlingen April 16th (excellent map layout/StuG/needs Canadian army/Road to Rome NOT needed) Berlin April 17th Eagles Nest April 25th Fall of Berlin April 30th |
Re: THE... World War Map Timeline.. wow, nice effort. But i think Alpenfestung is a map based on a theoretical german strategy to hold up in the bavarian alps with SS members. |
Re: THE... World War Map Timeline.. yea alpen is fictional, might want to fix that. Otherwise great job, Ill have to check out some of those fan maps. EDIT: ah ok some of those fan maps are fictional too. Might want to mark those as better as some ppl hate fictional maps getting confused with ones based of rl events. |

Re: THE... World War Map Timeline.. really, my bad. i thought the Po was in Italy?...Bavarian Alps are germany....Mabye your thinking of the Alps in general |
Re: THE... World War Map Timeline.. Nice job, although one thing, i think bombing the reich has to be a bit later than 1940 as AFAIK the lancaster wasn't around in 1940, i might be wrong. I was thinking it'd be more like 1942. |
Re: THE... World War Map Timeline.. From what I could tell, there are only a couple of the maps you posted that are worth keeping, one of them is Leningrad. Most of them look like really bad Vanilla maps. No hope for them. It's awesome to have all these battle references though. I think my next project might be a Brecourt Manor map. |
Re: THE... World War Map Timeline.. If u should recomend 5 of those custom maps, which one will it be? :) |
Re: THE... World War Map Timeline.. Wow, that's bloody much of battlefields! |

Re: THE... World War Map Timeline.. You ported Fish River to Fh?? Ehh it was nice when it was like the first custom map for bf1942 but now... |

I meant better, as in more easy to tell. The italics are ok but most people aren't go to read through the whole intro, also that text is not real clear in its meaning. There's a difference between a map that could be similair to a real life event but not quite, and one similair but thats intended as fictional, such as alpen.. In the end its the posters decscion and most people know anyway what maps are fictional so its not a big deal. Anyway which of these fan maps work with .65 and are good enough to bother downloading? |
Re: THE... World War Map Timeline.. Ummm... do you think Supercharge should be before El Alamein, because on the loading screen for Supercharge there is a sign pointing to El Alamein :) |
Re: THE... World War Map Timeline.. Bombing the Reich is 1943 (because it says it). Of course the Lancaster, FW190 and the Bf109G are only dead give aways but then again the Spitfire and Hurricane are 1939/40 aircraft. DICE maps are generic, any resemblance to actual battles is pure coincidence and luck. |
Re: THE... World War Map Timeline.. Bombing the Reich involves crossing a large channel and bombing a naval industry.. Wilhemhaven & Kiel were among the 2 closest such naval towns IN germany.. And according to RAF records was attacked then, the only other time Kiel was hit was by the RAF was April 9th 1941, April 10, 1945 and May 2nd 1945 the US bombed Kiel during 1943. While Wilhelmshaven was bombed along with Kiel on July 5th 1940, with no other raids by the RAF against Wilhelmshaven. The US handled all other bombings of the town in 1943. The Lancaster was introduced late 1942, but for this to be a British bombing the Germans map.. it would favor more being one of those two towns in comparison especially taking into account its at night.the US also handled the bombings of Bremerhaven the other closest naval town. I do not know which of the Custom maps listed play with FH, a few do show up in the map list when FH is activated. But I do not know which are ported. Next to the better of the group maps are the recommendations.. Peleliu, Ruhr Valley, Corsica, Korsun, Tarawa, Alama, Night of Nights, St Sauver, Liberation of Nuenen & Harlingen, are the favorites. |

I think we should make it perfectly clear; the Map selection states Bombing the Reich-1943, the splashscreen states 1943, the aircraft seem to be from 1943 and not 1940. The question is whether the map is supposed to be a generic representation of the British Bombing raids over the third reich or a representation of a specific raid, I consider it the former. It could be made to represent that specific raid if the correct aircraft were included and the skymap changed to day/dusk, infact it could be all three of them with only a few changes. Take some time and figure out what the basic design could be used for. The BoB map pretty much covers what the Germans did to the British, except the bombing of civilians. BtR comes with so much more potential; commando raids with naval and air support, American day bombing, Mosquito Night Airstrikes even Naval engagements of Destroyer size of course with air support. I can see myself flying the Dak on Para missions. |
Re: THE... World War Map Timeline.. hmm.. breaktrough was 27th of July 1944 you say.. interesting.. so panzerfaust 30 would be the standard issue german AT weapon, not the 100 :) (except for an odd panzershreck or 2 lying around :) |
Re: THE... World War Map Timeline.. All Bombing the Reich would need is a change of the year stated on the map. The creator must have merely picked a random year to coincide with the Lancaster then it would be the better known bombing of Kiel May 2nd 1945. And it is just an estimation for if someone wants to do the maps in soem sort of order... I look at the Map layouts/Time of year shown (i.e. Fall, Winter, Summer) And not at the vehicles featured since it is impossible for FH right now to go that indepth to vehicle detail. I would rather play a maplist in order where your not running into some Winter campaign map just after doing a Summer. This map order gives a far better impression for that time passing. |
Re: THE... World War Map Timeline.. BTW Zielona gσra is not Silesia, it's about halfway between Posen and Oder river (right now Poland, before war - Germany) And great job :) |

The FW190 is in the markings of 9./JG2 in the Summer of 1943. The Bf109G-6 is a 1943 aircraft even though the model is a E-4. The Bf110G-4 Night fighter was introduced in 1943. June 1943 would be its best postition in your list. I personally believe the Spitfire/Hurricane and Swordfish are only place holders for when the devs get around to replacing them. The Bristol Beaufighter IF - T.F.X and/or DH 98 Mosquito NF.II night fighter or FB.VI fighter-bomber are excellent candidates with very good reusability across multiple theaters. Maybe if a dev would clear this matter we could move on. |
Re: THE... World War Map Timeline.. Again.. I stress a maps placement should not be based solely on the vehicles featured... several maps run into these problems.. historical fact remains that the bombings of those locations.. which this would have to be.. happened on those dates listed.. not 1943.. Switch it to US vs German and you have no problem then with 1943..And it certainly isnt the Ruhr Valley.. June 10th, German bombings, US by day, RAF by night begins. June 11, 1943 The US 8th Air Force raids the German naval base at Wilhelmshaven (200 B-17s), while the RAF attacks Mόnster and Dόsseldorf. June 12th 1943 The RAF launches a heavy raid on Bochum in the Ruhr. June 20th, 1943 60 RAF bombers attacking the radar works at Friedrichshafen. June 21st, 1943 The RAF launches a heavy raid on Krefeld in the Ruhr, but lose 44 aircraft. June 24th 1943 The RAF conducts a heavy raid on Elberfeld in the Ruhr. Being intended I'm sure as a generic map.. I'm sure the skins are just as generic in suiting the look of the map.. I wouldn't take the "skins" as a good historical reference to time... For a timeline purpose however.. which is what I listed.. there are really only 3 dates where it would fit in.. the best of which would be the major bombings of 1940 or 1945.. |
Re: THE... World War Map Timeline.. Yes but you are also forgetting that the British switched to purely night bombing by 1943 leaving the Americans to pound the Reich during the day. I know early on they would do night time raids as well, but really all signs point to 1943 other than those towns which you seem to be convinced are the ones depicted in the map. |
