Any chance of a "fixed" ranking system?

This might be impossible, but I'll ask anyway.

Is there any chance of FH being able to fix the ranking system in BF 1942?

I'm sure many of you like to see how you play according to bftracks.com or something of the link. Unfortunately, one of the criteria on your ranking is how often you come in the top 3, and of course, #1.

Right now, BF ranks based on points exclusively. That means someone with 100 kills and 1,000 deaths is "better" than someone with 99 kills and 1 death.

I'm sure there are some...technical limitations in place to do really in depth awards, ala kills/caps per minute, etc, but here is a basic formula I came up with to determine rank:

Score = (caps - TKs) * Kill to death ratio

Just an idea.

If DICE were to release an SDK, i think it would be possible and cool. As of now, i dont think its possible...

This is a built in feature in BF2. The better and more team based you play, the more equipment and options you open up as you rise through the ranks.

What DICE should do ( or mods if someone should find a way ) is reward points to a player that has destroyed an enemy vehicle. ( doens't matter if it is empty or not )

The loss of an aircraft carrier means the loss of most of its crew ( anywhere between 1000 and 3000 men ) In FH, most of the time you won't get a single kill sinking an aircraf carrier. Same goes for battleships.....a nation often could not replace one if it was lost.....that has to be rewarded in points !

For many countries, like Germany the loss of a Tiger tank was a true catastrophy, as late in the war it could not be replaced, or replaced in time. That was true also for the Brittish during the Battle of Brittain for their fighters, and to some extend for Germany also as the Luftwaffe never again would reach the same strenght again.

Also for pilots it would not be so frustrating if an enemy pilot or crew bails, since they are rewareded for depriving the enemy an important vehicle.

SDK... SDK... so many things could be done with an SDK...

Why does DICE deprive us?

Economics...why waste time/money on an obsolete engine.

I change my name too often for it to be of any use anyway. It would have to be based off of.. I single registered name, or a CD-KEY hash.

Hmmm... a few things: how do you calculate the ratio if you don't die, or don't kill at all during the round? And is it fair that with the same amount of captures a person with 30 kills and 10 deaths gets the same score as someone with 30 kills and 10 deaths, since the latter has been affecting the game more? I know you were looking for a simple formula, but just like that wouldn't work.

And looks like arty dudes on certain maps would be reaping the medals with this formula ;)

It won't work this way, you will also get ranking points for repairing friendly vehicles and healing teammates. Another nice feature is that people that transport their teammates from one strategic place to another get points for doing this. If these promises are all be met then BF2 would be a great game that really rewards teamwork. Then it will be just a long wait untill FH is ported over.

....I've read in a preview that Dice/EA is shipping the mod tools before BF2 hits the shelves. If this is done the wait will be significant shorter.....

Re: Any chance of a "fixed" ranking system?

And now on topic:

First off, I think the score system on BFtracks doesn't encourage team & fair play... After having looked on my score there, I tried to boost my score... well, I happend to play Kursk then, on the server put me on the russian side - and we DO know that the axis get their arses kicked every round. The PIV is just a joke compared to the T-34. Standing with the tank next to the river, mowing down everything that moves. So at the first round I finished with ... 40:5 or something like that. The 2nd round, I didn't bother trying the axis side for a change.. 58:9 the second round, gold again. fun and boring at the same time...

Having said that, when you e.g. blow up a Tiger or Panther using expacks/mines, thus helping your team a lot, but die in the process, you get -1 score. Duh! Of course it's satisfying to blow up big tank, but except for that you get punished. so I think if you manage to kill a tank, you should get +3, blow up a APC +2, etc. You get the point... (But I guess it a SDK thing)
