Face2Face Knife Fighting
 

is there any "real" teachable ability to this or is it mainly luck? as most people can i can kill easily and silently from behind which is important sometimes but i always seems to lose face to face knife fights so i wondered if there was a particular technique to be learned? ie keeping left mouse button depressed for longer rather than clicking like crazy, or moving forward slightly as u knife strike, or "aiming" head height as with rifles. close quarter fighting inside houses, barns and bunkers might actually be easier with a knife than a rifle, does anyone use the knife as a viable face to face weapon rather than just an emergency or to be cool or most frequently, make people feel like n00bs lol? any tips? thanks

Its luck mainly, ever played 'Seige' mod? Thats funny, you can go around and beat people over the head with a big axe pure comedy when you go round and round for 3 mins trying to kill someone then you smash their face with an axe and win :)

It's not all luck, it's timing too. You need to slash right before you walk against someone. Just pressing you lmb as fast as possible won't make you the winner of a knife fight. But I only use my knife when i don't have anymore ammo in my pistol or rifle.

Well, I play the BF: Pirates Mod that also has alot of Close Combat.

I must admit, even after more than 9 months of playing that Mod I still havn´t come up with any great tipps for close comabt.
However I do have some things to say that might help:

-Ping makes a mjor difference in Close Combat. With pings over 50, hitting someone is just a matter of luck. The lower your ping is, the easier you´ll find it to hit someone is a knife fight.
-Don´t ever walk backwards. Due to the BF Netcode, if you walk backwards, away form you attacker, you´ll easily be hit an killed. So its better to charge right at you opponent than run away...

heres a tip.Wait until they swipe at you then swipe at them.It takes 2 knife hits to kill a full healthed player.Also try getting them to move back, they move away slower and are easier to kill.Also if your knifing and on a hill never be on the bottom you'll get owned.A part from that it's luck.

This is where bunnyhopping is actually usefull :

(agressive) :

Bounce toward an enemy in an inregulair pattern and make sure when you are near him you are higher in the air ( in a jump ) then him and ALWAYS stab for the head ( instant death )

You being higher makes sure you will hit his head first, you win.

(defensive) :

Use strafing keys ( running sideways ) in inregular circles around him making it hard for him to aim for your head ( this is what you use in CQC pistol fights too ) When he charges you and is making the stabbing motion evade with steps back ( away from his stab ) and inmidiatly after go foreward and counter stab ( the head ! ) when he rushes past you.

Second method is more like "boxing" with a knife......get out of his way when he attacks, and use his unbalance after his strike to strike yourself.

Theres some skill to it.Try not to "bunnyhop" around the opponent.Back up until you see him infront of you and as he starts to run at you make the swing.And aim for the head.Just domt run in circles.

it has a lot to do with timing actually...let him come to you, strafe away from his slash, turn to the side and slay that sucker while he´s passing by...*gg*

This most of the times works out fine for me and 95% I own the guy in a knife fight...

it might have been me if you often play on european servers like FragTheNet, NagNag or Fear-Clan...
