Tolerance for the noobs to FH Hey all,:cya: First off, let me say that I LOVE FH. This is a way more impressive and immersive mod than desert combat. I had totally abandoned vanilla 1942 when Vietnam came out and have been playing FH only ever since I downloaded it a few weeks back. The maps are better than the vanilla BF maps, the models (and variations of vehicles) are way above the standard game and everything looks amazing. It also promotes teamwork inherently - I played a game last week on battle of the bulge that displayed coordination between armor, infantry and artillery on both sides that was stunning. I've been playing for about three weeks now - and lurking the forums during that time trying to glean some information on how to play, etc. I was a pretty good vanilla BF player and am starting to get the hang of FH. I don't want to sound like a whiner here, but I've been yelled at twice for what, in my opinion, were pretty minor mistakes. Certianly explainable mistakes. And I witness it all the time with other players - some of whom are making unforgivable stupid mistakes but a lot of whom are making honest mistakes. I've witnessed this on mulitple servers. There seems to be very little tolerance for this sort of thing among the FH players (maybe too general of a statement - there's a SET of FH players). Honestly, this has been the only negative aspect of the game for me but is a very negative aspect - it takes a lot of the fun out of it to worry that people are going to jump down your throat if you don't handle a situation the way they expect you to. I guess the point of my post is to plead for a little tolerance among the veterans - not all of us noobs are stupid and useless. We'll get there. And thanks, Devs, for an awesome, awesome mod. |
Re: Tolerance for the noobs to FH can you point out some of the mistakes you where talking about?? personaly I hate it when a nOOb drives away with the katusha |
Re: Tolerance for the noobs to FH Quote:
1, Arty needs to be one man. 2, Pilots need to be locked into planes till they land it. 3, PPSH41 whoring. 4, Rifle Nades. 5, KT bug. 6, Various bugs 7, Knife and Zooka, rifle etc closing bug. 8, and some more I can't think of at this time as my mind is on other things *_* |
Re: Tolerance for the noobs to FH Well, there'll always be some stupid assholes who are unsure of themselves and thus have to attack others to feel better, but have no fear! I think that a lot of the FH community (myself included) will be more than glad to answer any questions even if they are "n00bish". As for the flamers - hm, don't know. Maybe you should report their post to a mod and he might give them a warning? :D Anyway, welcome! :) |

Re: Tolerance for the noobs to FH Hehe - no, nothing like that. The same basic rules from vanilla BF still apply - including treating arty like a tank :) Both of the mistakes I got reamed for where with the tanks: 1) tickets were counting down fast (< 20) on bulge and I made a run from the allied base with a sherman towards the town flag to try and get a quick cap. There were infantry with me. Got flamed for exposing the tank like that. 2) driving a tank on Gazala - fired at an enemy tank as player was driving by that tank in a jeep. Aim was off and I smoked my teammate... Immediately apologized but he wasn't appeased |

There are always loud mouths that claim vehicles you are in or tell you to get out because they can use it better then you......( yeah right  ) let them scream all they want, it is a public game..... Just to be short : if some behaviour seems unjust and rediculous toward you and you think you weren't doing anything wrong, it probably is unjust and rediculous and you don't have to worry about it, and just let those losers be.....however they might kill you or blow you up, then just change to another server......by TK' ing them back you might make yourself unwelcome on good capacity servers. Players will - btw - appriciate you more if you can use vehilces effectively without losing them within 30 seconds......but that still isn't a reason to act rediculous toward you ;) |
Re: Tolerance for the noobs to FH Neither of those are big mistakes - if at all - and I'm amazed anyone called you on them. A dash with a Sherman is fair enough; granted on Bulge you're likely to become Panther meat if you try, but it's a perfectly valid try to stop the ticket bleed, even if you end up blown apart. Exposing a Sherman isn't the end of the world, it's not like its that valuable a vehicle! Everyone complains about a tk, in Vanilla, EoD, DC, FH, everywhere. They're not really 'n00bish', everyone does it once in a while, and anyone who can't take the apology is a waste of time. Unless you shoot someone in the back on the runway, or blow up a friendly King Tiger, or something like that, most tks are easily forgivable. |
Re: Tolerance for the noobs to FH Talking of "forgiveable tks", most people in FH still don't seem to have understood the ftk function, have they? :D For all who don't know what I'm talking about: if someone team kills you by accident and you accept the apology, open up the console (^ key) and enter "ftk" - short for forgive team kill. The other player has his -2 points penalty removed and won't get kicked fot tk'ing on that occasion. I think it's just a bit of being nice to other people. However, if you get TKed on purpose, just leave it be. |
Re: Tolerance for the noobs to FH Jackson_Cal: here's my advice: open up console and write ignore <ID> and then go on with your happy gaming. :) |
Re: Tolerance for the noobs to FH And it's really not so much my two experiences that have me so frustrated - that could've been two isolated jerks. It seems like with FH there is a lot more non-stop yelling at other players during games about how they should or should not play the game tacticly. Granted, I've only played for three weeks. And again, this might be a normal result of teamwork having added importance. Does anyone else notice this? |

Re: Tolerance for the noobs to FH I think that they should make the artillery so you can only enter from the second seat. This would prevent people from getting in while your firing and driving off. |
Re: Tolerance for the noobs to FH Some players just type 'ftk' into the chat window, which is amusing. All these things are just part of learning how FH is played and you're bound to catch crap from someone who doesn't like how you play or you've accidentally tk'ed. Two things that I hate are the guys that hound you about being a 'dirty noob tk'er' when you've killed them on Berlin because they picked up a Russian kit and they weren't wearing a white helmet anymore. Happened to me last night, and dude, give it a rest. And guys that harrass you for an 'ftk' when they don't deserve one. |
Re: Tolerance for the noobs to FH Quote:
Bulge is an intense map. If the allies are down to 1 flag and all they have is 1 Sherman, that tank is their only chance for victory. German armor is good on that map and there's a lot of things that can kill you easily. You probably just recieved some pent up frustration from the guy who bitched at you. Keep in mind though, tanks aren't Vanilla tanks. They are real tanks with the advantages and disadvantages of both. One good hit from an enemy tank is all it takes. One good hit from a Faust will do you in as well. Tanks are powerful but unless youve got a Tiger or KT, don't go "Rambo"ing with it because you'll just get picked off. Tigers and KTs are the only tanks that can really take hits. Churchills can take 1 or 2 shots, the front armor of Stugs is decent, and an IS-2 can weather a few 88 shells, but most tanks are one-hit-kill. |
Re: Tolerance for the noobs to FH If Im TK'd and it was obviously an accident I usually FTK anyways because I could tell it wasnt intentional. If the TK seemed to be from stupidity or intentional I want an apology and if I dont get one I type PTK. A guy the other day on our team "accidently" TK'd about 4 people in a row in what we felt was not an accident and the guy would not apologize so all of us that were Tk'd by him PTK'd him. Eventually he was killed and you could tell when he respawned as he started cussing us out over chat. A simple apology would have prevented that. Instead he dropped and didnt come back. |
Re: Tolerance for the noobs to FH About the BAttle of the Bulge. Guys. Think for a minute. The only tickets that bleed on the Bulge are the german ones. The americans can hold the ticket count forever, even if they only have one flag. I'm tired of watching noobs rushing out the american main base to cap flags, and getting killed by the hundreds. The american team has lost many many times doing things that way. The right way to win the Bulge is to hold on to the american main base (where all the tanks and supplys are) and let the germans die by the hundreds trying to cap it. Instead, all the noobs rush OUT of the american base, taking all the tanks with them, and dying. The germans get their tanks and infantry in, and nobody is there to defend it. No tanks, and very few people. If the flag goes white, nobody can spawn. When this happens, its only a matter of time before allies lose. If they should hold that flag, keeping the armour and infantry there, they would win easily. But they choose to rush out. The tickets bleed when americans die, and the ticket bleed for allies is far greater when they decide to rush out and get killed outside the surrounded base. Is this so hard to understand? |
Re: Tolerance for the noobs to FH Well whatever the case on Bulge, the teamkill was understandable. It happens. Don't get yourself all upset just because some jerk got mad at you. We here at the forums are generally nice guys and will try to help you out if we see ou in-game. Just remember: it's only a game. |
Re: Tolerance for the noobs to FH As long as you dont jump out of a half dead tank - especially the KT - or blindly fire artillery onto nearby friendlies you should be ok. I've been there with the allied player using enemy equipment. Its a risk they should accept to take, but they think there is none. Of course one should check their mini map before firing but sometimes it can be confusing to look at and you need to make a decision very quickly lest you end up toast. Good luck with your FH adventures! :D |
Re: Tolerance for the noobs to FH ww2freak - that's a very good point re: the bulge and would explain the anger. I still think it was justifiable as there wasn't armor in the town when I started advancing - but, definitely more understandable with the perspective you added. Guess is has been that long since I regularly played that map :) See you all online! |
Re: Tolerance for the noobs to FH Engineers and panzerfaust on the nearest flag can turn your tank into dust, leaving your mates on the main base defenseless and with much less chance to hold off a mass tank rush by the germans. That's why i strongly oppose any stupid attempts from allies of regaining the flags. In that map, allies are suppose to defend, not attack. Especially when main base is under fire and we need every single tank and soldier inside to help protect it. |

Re: Tolerance for the noobs to FH I ftk people all the time, but I never get ftk'd when I apologise. |
Re: Tolerance for the noobs to FH I only ftk if I know the person is cool, if they apologise or if the tk was actually my fault. Otherwise I let the game punish them. Mebbe next time they will check thier fire. |
Re: Tolerance for the noobs to FH "2, Pilots need to be locked into planes till they land it." Then the pilot kit is useless. Can't it be made that people in planes that DO NOT have a pilot kit are stuck in the plane until they land? That would make the most sense. |
Re: Tolerance for the noobs to FH Wow, I still don't know what the Knife/Zooka bug is. I must be a n00b! Shout away and kill me plz! Because I hate n00bs....like me :( |
Re: Tolerance for the noobs to FH Quote:
The PPsH is a russian submachinegun that is ridiculously overpowered. It does M1 Carbine damage at 800 rounds a second with a 71 round clip. People on infantry maps with russia will see that nearly the entire russian team is using PPsH's, which makes for a lame map. 4.) Rifle Nades: These are also exploitable infantry weapons that are attached to the end of rifles and shot, and will explode on impact. People use them like rocket launchers because there's no delay for firing them after selecting them. Its a really cheap way to kill people that requires no aiming and no skill. 5.) KT bug: King Tiger (KT) tanks have a bug with the top of the turret where there is a raised section of the commander's hatch exposed and easily hittable. That wouldn't be a problem, except that the top armor for any tank is the weakes spot on the tank, and the commander's hatch is mistakenly coded to be "top armor". That means a single Sherman round can destroy a KT from medium-long distance without having height advantage. It makes the KT, a monster of a tank, very vulnerable and unrealistically weak. 6.) Various bugs: Could mean things about tank recoil, plane physics, LOD models, balance issues, etc. 7.) Knife-Zook bug: There's a bug where you can have an instantly accurate Bazooka/anti-tank weapon at any time. I won't repeat how to do it here, but it's prevalent and if you've played FH a lot you know that anti-tank infantry weapons take a LONG time to get accurate. This exploit allows people to just whip out the Bazooka and instantly have accuracy, which is unrealistic. 8.) Mind on other things: MG42Maniac just finished reading The DaVinci Code and is now in a shattered state of mind where he dosen't know what is real and what is fiction, as if the walls of continuity and sense were crumbling around him like a sandcastle in a hurricaine. |
Re: Tolerance for the noobs to FH Wow I didn't know about that bug on the KT. I'll try to avoid exploiting it. I really don't see the knife (pistol if you're sensible)/Zook combo being an "exploit". I always pull out my pistol in order to (semi-effectivley) defend myself against infantry. Although sometimes I'll have the zooka out the whole time, you never know when that stealthy SOB along the way will get the drop on you, in which case a rocket will do no good. |

Re: Tolerance for the noobs to FH As long as newbies(noobs, newbs, n00bs, nubs, etc.) stay out of planes they're ok by me. Practice offline goddamnit |
Re: Tolerance for the noobs to FH lets remember though guys..we were all newbs at one point, it was the patience of others that we learned some things and enjoyed the game and if it wasnt for the newbs the fh community wouldnt be growing as well as it is right now:cya: :cya: :cya: :cya: :cya: snafufubar=kenz |
Re: Tolerance for the noobs to FH Quote:
I use ftk when someone appologizes, rarely TK back, never TK for vehicles and even let someone that obviously was there longer when i arrive at a vehicle respawn let him take it, and not jump in myself although i was closer. I even will operate the carrier lift untill all waiting have left in intact aircraft, helping my team and helping myself, because if they keep killing themselves and wrecking the aircraft, the'll just respawn there again and repeat their behaviour....and i'll never get off the ship, or be there far too long to help win the round. I all player were like me, servers would be very nicer and less hostile and irritating, Jagd..... That is why i hate nOObs, because all the nice things i do, they do not. I am frequently killed trying to board a vehicle by frustrated idiots that want it too, or even killed when i already are in it with expacks ! My aircraft rarely leaves the field without being damaged by deliberate friendly fire, sometimes even with FLAK cannons !! And so on and so on.....servers are filled with idiots. It is the only real negative thing about FH, although the devs are struggeling to code idiot behaviour out as much as possible......their greatest victory the pilot class......ever seen loads of valuable aircraft wrecking flagcappers ever since ? |
Re: Tolerance for the noobs to FH If someone says sorry, or sorry for tk etc, I ftk. If someone yells at me in caps : FTK. I ptk, simple. A simple sorry gets a ftk, very simple. I always say sorry if I tk, and it annoys me and dissapoints me when I don't get a ftk when I have apologised. |
Re: Tolerance for the noobs to FH Does ftk really take the -2 away? I thought it just did the spawn time... I swear I've never gained those points back. That means no-one ever ftks me... :( |

Apology=FTK Asshole=PTK Hehe...and it really pisses me off, when someone TKs me, and says something along the lines of "Get over it"...I hate those guys.. This guy "jay severin", or something like that, tked me on bocage with the p38. I was in a tank..and he blatantly tked me...I said "WTF?" and he said "get over it". Damn..that pisses me off. |
