King tigers turret why does the king tiger turret turn so fast ? its even faster than the Shermans turret it shoudl tunr like the Tigers turret |
Re: King tigers turret Electrically driven by more or more powerfull electric motors ?? |
Re: King tigers turret KIng Tiger did have a very fast turning turret. The turret could be rotated in between 19 seconds and 77 seconds depending on engine rpm. The best speed being 2000rpm for 19 sseconds. |
Re: King tigers turret so it could rotate 360 degres in 19 seconds ? in fdh its like 8 seconds or something ;) |
Re: King tigers turret In FH every turret turns faster.... |
Re: King tigers turret Yes well,Fh wasn't exactly going for realism though. |
Re: King tigers turret The Tiger has/had a really slow turret but don't be fooled by the KT. It turret turned almost as fast as that of a T-34/85 |
Re: King tigers turret What FH has done with tank turret speeds, I believe, is modeled them realistically in a relative sense, but not in an absolute sense. So, for example, in real life, a King Tiger's turret could turn at a rate of 360 degrees in (random numbers here) 50 seconds, whereas the Tiger could turn 360 degrees in 100 seconds. In FH, they've modeled this relatively, so that a Tiger turns 360 degrees in 16 seconds, and the King Tiger turns it in 8 seconds. So in that sense, the relative values of the tanks are realistic, but the absolute values are not. I'm hoping they'll do this same kind of stuff with the planes. As long as we're on tank balance/relativity issues, I'm curious about something with the Puma. I know that its long-barreled 75mm gun was supposed to be pretty damn good at anti-tank work, but I'm curious as to whether it was quite as powerful as it is in the game, relatively speaking. I mean, the other night on Alpenfestung (which, based on the one round I played, seems like it might need a balance pass), I watch a Puma take out pretty much every tank the Allies had. Granted, this was at medium range, and the Puma was hitting the tanks almost perfectly perpendicular on the side (and the tanks were Sherman variants and M10s), but doesn't this seem a little too powerful? I'm not sure, so I'll defer to the hardcore tank historians here. |

This durations youīve given are far too high. It takes 1 full minute for the Tiger to turn itīs turret and not more. And to make sure itīs got enough RPM to turn fast the driver only needs to "step on the gas". As for the Puma, one direct hit and it would have been smashed. Itīs the others problem if they donīt hit. |
Re: King tigers turret The normal speed it took for a KingTiger to turn it's turret 360 degrees was 12.3 seconds, considerably faster than the Tiger1. :nodding: |

And that gun could easily punch trough the side armour of Shermans. And since M-10s only have like an inch of armour to protect it... |
Re: King tigers turret The Move, I said the numbers were random. Look in my post for the parentheses and you'll see what I'm talking about. :) I was merely trying to point out that the mod, I believe, is representing the relative values of the turret speeds, not the absolute values. Again, as I said, I picked the numbers at random to illustrate a point. |

Re: King tigers turret I'm telling you the Puma (SdKfz 234/2) had a 50mm! http://www.wwiivehicles.com/images/g...z_234_2_04.jpg You're confusing it with the SdKfz 234/4 wich was armed with a pak40 |
Re: King tigers turret The Move their was a very similar version that carried a 75mm cannon but it was open topped and carried the 75mm L/24 howitzer and as Coolguy pointed out the PAK 40 version with teh 75mm L/48 The Puma modelled in game is the Sd.Kfz.234/2 (8-Rad) http://www.linux-penguin.org/achtungpanzer/234_2.htm The Version carrying the 75mm gun is the Sd.Kfz.234/3 (8-Rad) mit 7.5cm KwK and was not officially know as a Puma. http://www.linux-penguin.org/achtungpanzer/234_3.htm The version carrying the PAK40 is the Sd.Kfz.234/4 (8-Rad) mit 7.5cm PaK 40 http://www.linux-penguin.org/achtungpanzer/234_4.htm The Puma in game carries a 50mm L/60 high velocity gun and is the same 50mm carried in the PzIII-L, M, and N. Using PzGr 39 ammo the gun can penetrate 100mm of vertical armor at 100m or 78mm of vertical armor at 500m Using PzGr 40 ammo the gun can penetrate 165mm of vertical armor at 100m and 120mm of vertical armor at 500m The Sherman having about 52mm of vertical side armor was an easy kill for a Puma if it got a shot at the sides or rear of a Sherman, M-10, M-3, M-5, M-24, and M-18. But not the M-26. M-26 had enough armor to not penetrate. |

Anyway, that 50 mm can still crack tanks and further the Puma should be not easy to hit since top speed is 80 km/h |
Re: King tigers turret In this case, the Puma was stationary and was just shooting the idiot tankers who kept driving down the same path on Alpenfestung. You think they'd have figured out where teh guy was eventually. He was sitting right out in the open. Unfortunately, he also shot ME when I got an ally to bail out of his Sherman 105 (I think it was a 105), blew up the M10 that had just driven by me, and started driving back towards our lines. |
