tanks vs battleships well after all the vs. tanks threads and the vs. yamato thread. I have concluded that a tank can not sink a battleship, anyone else agree? |
Re: tanks vs battleships Yeah. Not like that situation ever happened historically to quote from, but ingame, you can't sink a battleship with tank rounds, or if you can, I don't feel like doing it for hours to see. |
Re: tanks vs battleships Its not like you'd get that scenario in RL though as they would far out at sea bombarding via radio command. Its just another BF limitation like the wheeled coffin that is the APC in BF. Its a 6 for 1 deal to tanks! OT but it sounds like the APCs in Soldner will be quite useful given vastness of terrain. :) pps if you check out their latest dev diary, at the very bottom they have a render of a wermacht support gunner. |
Re: tanks vs battleships German tanks used to sink Soviet ships on the Volga during Stalingrad, but then again they didn't have 14"-18" of armour. |
Re: tanks vs battleships Fireflies can sink destroyers... |
Re: tanks vs battleships Hypothetically speaking if a tank can get plunging fire on a Battleship it can penetrate the deck armor without a whole lot of problem. Side belt armor I think a Tank gun barrel would wear out before the Battleships side belt armor was penetrated. A Destroyer in general has less armor than a tank(50mm to 25mm) so a Tank should sink a Destroyer without too much problem. I sank Jap Destroyers before using the M10. |
Re: tanks vs battleships Well I'm sure a tank could damage a ship... but the ship can absorb so much damage I can't see it being in danger unless it's being hit by numerous tanks. |
Re: tanks vs battleships one shot in the command tower might do somthing |
Re: tanks vs battleships lucky shot to the magazine mabye? |
Re: tanks vs battleships Even if you blow all of the superstructure off of a Battleship off you still have to penetrate the hull below the waterline to reduce buoyancy or penetrate down into a magazine to blow up a Battleship. Most Battleships have a 300mm or greater side belt armor. Even at 500m range the best anti-tank gun in WW2 cannot penetrate 300mm armor plate. A modern tank gun like a 120mm NATO APFSDS can but youre talking making a hole that can be plugged with a cork. |
