Also, do trees really need to sway? Does that Tank really need the hubs of the roadwheels to be perfectly round? Does that ammo box really need to to have more than 15 polys? Why are there 3D cleaning rods on the side of the King Tiger? Have any of you see more than 2 pictures of a King tiger at the front with all it's tools still attached? Or even it's fenders and mud guards?

When was the last time you gave a flying f*ck what an ammo box looked like?

I don't know about the rest of you guys but I'd rather have 10 populated servers running FH as opposed to 3 just because some people like their shell casings to be rendered with 3d firing pin marks.
Problem is were do you draw the line ?

With the increasing power displayed by desktops , games developers don't cater anymore for the average punter.
Their programming is sloppy and not optimised for lower spec systems.

Why spend time optimising the code when more than 50 % of gamers have machines
capable of running it without any problems.
Comes down to plain economics. Sad but true.

Bleh, I buy the fastest card available every 2 or 3 years then overclock the bejeesuz out of it. Went from a Ti4600 to a 9800 pro and it was a BIG performance leap. I also save money by overclocking the hell out of my cpu's I have an AMD XP1700 ($40.00) that I run at 2300Mhz with a gig of 400Mhz DDRam. I do all this so I CAN play games at max detail and enjoy the shell casings, enjoy the 20,000 ploy objects, marvel at the tops of tanks and stop and look at the beautiful trees while I frag some ass. That is the direction games are headed and they are headed that way faster and faster every day.

It's just a fact that will be accelerated by games such as BF Vietnam, Doom3, Half-Life 2, Stalker, Painkiller and the list goes on. The advent and debut of PCI Express sometime in the next few months will cause a leap in game development techology and the gap between high-end machines and state-of-the-art machine will just continue to grow and game performance on lower end machines will just get worse.

My philosophy is upgrade less, but buy the absolute best when you do, you'll get more use out of it and be happier in the long run. I only paid $285 for a new 9800 Pro and sold my Ti4600 for $100. Pretty good upgrade, I score about 6400 3D2003 marks.

max FPS in BF: about 20-30 - SP even 35 sometimes
max FPS in FH: about 1-15 - SP even ~20-25 sometimes

but in the last build i had about 10 FPS alltime ... looks like in the new one (where i mainly have just 1 fps, on the same maps than before) there is a network bug or something ... we have to check that
It is fantastic that you test FH with something really low-end, if you will get 0.6 to run smoothly with those specs, you probably won't, but still, I will be happy as I will be able to play 0.6 smoothly as well.
And besides I got 50-80 FPS on a quite big and detailed map of our own on our better computer, it was with FH 0.5e, so perhaps the maps could be more optimized, and hopefully will be in 0.6.

I think the line is drawn when the mod for a 2 year game requires 10 times more the processing power.

Game developers don't cater for the average puter? Look at Dice! They released maps with 10 trees and 3 houses in total. Why? You think they did not have the fantasy/imagination to put in more vegetation (which they programmed) and more houses? No. They did it as "strategic marketing move".

You are right, it comes down to economics, and economics dictate that there are more people in the lower market then in the higher, and if you cater for lower, you will still catch a share of the higher; but if you cater for higher, you lose completely the lower market.

50% of people have the machines? Where are you taking these figures from? From the people visiting this forums? Do you know the percentage of people visiting these forums as compared to the total FH population? People visiting this forums are mostly hardcore fans. They will upgrade thier machines just for the sake of FH. This is not a "typical market share". The population of this forums does not portray the population of FH
