Folding@home: Beta clients expiration -- new clients available Apparently the Folding clients we are all using expired today. They will continue to function for 9 days as long as you don't shut them down. If you shut them down you will not be able to reopen them. EVERYONE needs to download the new beta versions which will be good for another 6 months... Standard Windows client for single core: http://www.stanford.edu/group/pandeg...ws-Console.zip SMP windows client for duo/quad core: http://www.stanford.edu/%7Ekasson/fo...P%20Client.EXE Any other clients needed can be found on the download pages at: Folding@home - Download I just installed the new beta 6 SMP client on 2 machines. Both installed just fine and I didn't loose my production. They both continued where they left off, and I didn't have to re-enter team ID, user name or anything. Here is what I did: 1) First Off, shut down your client with Ctrl+C... DO NOT DELETE your work files. You might even want to make a backup of your folding directory. 2) DL and install your client. It will ask you if you want to uninstall the old client. I clicked yes so it would remove the smpd.exe (SMP client only) in task manager. Reboot machine, run setup again and make sure it installs into your original folding directory. For SMP client, run the install.bat again to make sure it installs the new smpd.exe into your task manager. 3) launch and

And I was wondering why I could not restart my clients anymore. Installed the new client successfully and restarted work on two units at 78% and 94%.

| I had to install it, and reboot 3 times before it had uninstalled the old client. But it seems to work again now.

What's wrong with the new client? I keep getting WU's that are worth 2539 points and have a deadline of 2 days. Sad thing is FahMon calculates that I'd need 10 days to finish one of those.

oh crap knoffhoff, this mega WU is only supposed to be handed out to quads that are only running 1 SMP client. I got one by mistake when setting up a machine and I let it collect work before I had the 2nd client set up. Don't know how far you are into it but you have the option of deleting the work directory of your client and starting from scratch, or shutting down your 2nd client and give the mega WU your total Quad processing time. Sounds like you might not even make final deadline doing this tho. Final deadline is 4 days for these even tho preferred deadline is 2 days. I think if I ever get one of these again I'd probably delete it if I caught it in time. They only run ~1650 PPD while a 1760 point WU runs at around 2100 PPD on the same machine. If you do delete it, just make sure you have a smaller WU running when you fetch your new work.

I was running the client with that Wu propably 5-6 hours and got amazingly 2% done. ![]() After that I shut down the client, deleted my work folder and restrted. But it loaded one of of these big WU's again. Tried that three time without success. Now I had only one client running for almost 10 hours and will try start the other one again, hoping that now it will load a regular WU.
