| Just noticed Kaffenor put another core to work... I'll be waving at him as he flys by. ![]() Little update: Forgotten Hope Community - Team Summary - EXTREME Overclocking Folding @ Home Stats We have 2 teams nipping at our heals to pass us by. they have been the first threats since we started getting tracked at EOC. The Bleach7 team passed us once, then we passed them and left them in the dust when Kaffenor unleashed his fury. Looks like some of the anime kiddies on that team figured out how to make their core duo's sing. They are matching us pretty well PPD for PPD, so they are popping on and off of our threats list. No big deal. The second team tho came onto EOC stats last week... Sonic Thunder Folding Team. They look like they will average out at about 2000 - 3000 ppd more than us currently so they are due to pass us in over a month. I don't know what their story is, but they have only 4 folders and almost 300 CPU's folding. must be a nice electric bill. Anyway, neither will be a threat after next weekend. I'll be putting 2 more Quad cores online. I also have a good friend here that is going to throw SMP clients on all of his dual xeons at work. Not too sure how many he has and what speed they are but as long as they make the 4 day deadline, any additional 1760 point hits help the cause. Speaking of threats, we are showing up as a threat on lots of team's EOC stats... all the way down to teams in the ~600 level range. The lessor producing teams will not have us show up since they have greater threats than us. EOC only shows the top 5 threats to the team based on PPD. here's an example: For_Lupus - Team Summary - EXTREME Overclocking Folding @ Home Stats Fun stuff! |

Detailed instructions are in the SMP file download: http://www.stanford.edu/%7Ekasson/fo...P%20Client.EXE Also the FAQ has detailed instructions on how to get it going: Folding@home - FAQ-SMP The short version. Assuming you are using XP, make sure you have .NET Framework v2.0 or above installed before you install the SMP client. (vista already has this) Download details: .NET Framework Version 2.0 Redistributable Package (x86) Make sure you have to log into windows with a password. In XP: Control Panel/User Accounts/Change Password. The SMP client will not work with blank passwords. Download and install the client into it's own directory someplace. Run install.bat. This will install the MPI client. Grant access to any firewall popups. When it is run, give it the required information. You username and password (your windows login). You should get a: If you see this twice, MPI is working If you see this twice, MPI is working You only need to do this once, but make sure it's working. Now run the Fah.exe from your new directory. Now, how to get the most from your quad core: Windows doesn't handle MPI nearly as well as linux or OSX. When you run one client in Windows it doesn't take full advantage of all 4 cores of your CPU. To get the most out of your CPU, you need to install a 2nd SMP client in a separate directory. While setting up the 2nd client, run the advanced config and set your machine ID to #2 (your first install defaulted to #1 already). Now you can make desktop shortcuts and call them F@H1 and F@H2 (or whatever) and launch both. To get the most production for your dual SMP client, download and install the affinity changer program here: Fah Smp Affinity Changer Note, do not close down the clients with Ctrl+C. I found it errors out the other client if you do so. I just shut down my computer with them still running and they seem to stay intact that way. |

| Thank you very much. ![]() A sticky with a faq how to install the clients and get them running would make it a lot easier for new people. Last edited by Knoffhoff; January 6th, 2008 at 02:04 PM.. |

| It isnt FAIR!!! ![]() I had to get my car down to the mecanic shop, and there goes my upgrade to a Quad Core anytime soon. ![]() Guess my 4th place ranking in this team is in serious danger now. ![]() Nice to see some more heavy duty Folding on the team, though!

| Which is better to run? GUI or text? Does the GUI "give" more to the cause?

| I've never run the GUI version personally, but from what I've read the text version is more efficient. |
