See something? Yup, from now on it is repeating it over and over again, always getting the ERROR 0x1 message.

I am running Vista x64. Could that be causing the problem?

I finally got the SMP client working, following some off HarapAlps advice.
It really does rake in the points. I went from somewhere at 280 PPD to 1450 PPD.

Solomon, I do not have Vista, but here are the instructions for installing the SMP client in Vista: How do I install the SMP Console client in Windows Vista? - FaHWiki

Note that the steps are a bit different. However, the instructions look clear to me. Let me know if you do not understand something from there. The idea is to install the client as an Administrator. You do not need to run the client under an Administrator account after that, only when you install it. Therefore, when it asks you for an user account, do not use the default answer which should be the Administrator account. Instead, type your regular account name. You must have a password for that account, otherwise they say it will fail.
Make sure to give access to mpiexec and smpd in your firewall.

I hope not... I've decided to go Vista 64 on my new workstation build.

I've been trying to look up your problem on the Folding community forums but they seem to be down everytime I've checked today. I seem to recall seeing posts where people have had problems with Vista 64, but I never paid attention to them since it didn't apply to me.

I just started the smp client on this comp (amd 6000+dual core) under this username. I usually dont leave the comp up constantly anymore but I think for the first work order i will till its done.

I got 2 more computers that are single cores I could use but am a littly hazy on how to do that. Do I just install different clients on each of those and then login each under this name or do they need to be setup to network somehow with this computer?

No matter at the very least hopefully I can do some good even at the worst its just this one running.

i have also now joined the FH2 folding. i also have:


desktop 1: x2 5600 , 2 gb ram, x1950xt
desktop 2: 1.4 celeron , 256 ram , nvidia tnt2
desktop 3: PIII 733, 384 mb ram, radeon 9200 SE ( incomplete, needs new HDD)
laptop : pII 266 mhz, 192 mb ram, random 2mb video card

i sign these guys up under FH team and im good right?

edit: nevermind, i downloaded that f@H manager and it seems to have tied everything together! folding at maximum firepower!

No networking needed. You just install the single core client on each of the machines and run them. It's much easier to set up than SMP so you should have no problems. Just remember to use the exact same user name and team number on all of your clients so each Work Unit you finish counts towards your single F@H name.

desktop 1: Double goodness! You can run both the SMP and GPU client on that one. You might want to test this first. I know you will make more points if you run the SMP client over the GPU client. Running both together will slow down your SMP some, but I don't know by how much. The GPU client is good for about 650 points per day
desktop 2: Will be slow. Just make sure not to download Work units with deadlines.
desktop 3: Same as #2
laptop: I think I'd skip this one. It will take over a week to complete a work unit and you might have a melt down leaving your laptop on that long with the CPU maxed out.

Same suggestion to you as to Malagon... Just make sure you have the same user name and team number on each of your clients. I made this mistake myself. This is why there is both a "Rad_FHdev" and "Rad_FHmod" on the list

im going to switch over to GPU client as soon as this last work unit is finished (4500/5000)! at firsti had downloaded their recommended software, i thought the high end was for workstations and such.

Yeah i can set up the other 2 computers using the standard client. After I thought about it today I realized I wasnt nearly as clear as I had intended, not feeling well and very tired will do that.

What I was really wondering was it possible to get all 3 to work on the same work unit/order. The way I understand its going to work is that all 3 will be working on seperate orders. The other 2 I have are both amd4000+single cores. Unfortunately ati honked me off several years ago so I cant use the gpu clients. I'll see about getting the other 2 up and running here soon.

There is no client at this time that can distribute the work across several nodes. There is only an SMP client, which means multiple CPUs on the same node with shared memory.
So the short answer is that you cannot work on the same WU with multiple computers. I assume they do not want to deal with load balancing the work across several machines that have different speeds.
